PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS4/PS3) | November 2014

Hey guys,

I have a quick question that has probably been answered a few times already, but there you go:

Is there any disadvantage to creating a PSN account in a region where games are cheaper? The NZ store has pretty insane prices (NZ$120 ≈ US$93 for new games), so I'd be quite keen to just buy all my games on the US store instead.

Cheers!

Gamasutra.
Does counterspy perform well technically? I thought I remembered it had a bunch of issues, but perhaps that was a prerelease build?
On PSV there is a framerate issue. That said, I really enjoyed going from PS4 to PSV and back, because of cross-save. It was really slick.

How much of the game was the demo? Was it the start or what? So glad/amazed to see something like Axiom Verge in a Target.

Those are some solid picks IMO
It looked like the very beginning. Lots of "hey, just woke up, what's going on?" and "oh, hey, here's a first weapon for you". Really lovely pixel art.

Thanks for the comment about the picks. I've gotten kind of niche in my old age.

You won't be able to use a credit card that deals in one currency with a store that deals in another, so you need to use prepaid cards. Additionally, if you buy a physical game from NA, you need to access the NA store to purchase (or redeem codes for) DLC.

I think there is, but chances are it'll get delayed one week, if that's the case.

I'm actually betting on that too. Not just because it is on a friday which is odd for a psn release, but because the game isn't even featured on the drop. Those two should be an indicator of what's going to happen.

I was making a list of all the Vita games I would still need to buy if I wanted a complete collection and realizing this would never end :(
How many games are you down? What's weird is I've been following your pick ups, lol. That one game you posted for $103. Is ridiculously price way too high!

Okay, thanks for the help! I think saving $30 per game is worth the hassle of having to use prepaid cards haha.

Ah, sounds like the section they have in the first press preview (which would appear to be the start of the full thing). Can't wait to see more, we should be getting a few more previews before the end of the year.

Indie's not so niche anymore. Most of those are at least moderately popular for non-AAA western games, best I can tell.

Your post sounds negative, when nothing of what you posted is a problem.

Do it.
Make a US account.
60 Hz PSX classics, better discounts on games on sale.
Got a game from US PSN/US region? Grab the DLC off US PSN and enjoy your game.

I've been rockin' EU and US accounts for near 2 years, and lately, my US account's been getting more purchases done on it than my EU account.
EDIT: Oh just grab US PS Cash cards off Amazon.com, random US addresses work.

Ah wait, I misread. I thought he was in the US wanting to use the NZ store. No wonder that sounded so strange to me.

Don't be offended but you are ingenuous imo, you seem to not understand that money is behind everything.

Let's think of videogames, how many times a games was called a masterpiece by media and then it was bashed by gamers? Too often if you want my opinion.
Why that happens? Money obviously, around videogames there are huge financial interests so certain people would do anything to convince people to buy, but games ends in the hands of lots of gamers so no matter what "experts" say if a game is not a masterpiece it won't be.
If i want to know if a game is good i collect info and ask to other gamers, i cannot trust those who have financial interests.

Art is the same, around art there are financial interests too, i think that you are ingenuous because you think that money have nothing to do with art, you just trust everything expert say to you without doubting what they say.

If people can say that a movie, a song, a game etc is not art then why people can't say the same for a painting or a sculpture? Maybe you don't realize it but you are trying to convince people to not use their judgment, for you people should accept what someone decided to be art.

There's no relativity in art, you think that something can be art for me but not for you and vice-versa. That's not true! Timeless masterpieces are art because even when people not like or understand it they agree that those are art unlike modern art, often even after a guide explained why a certain piece is modern "art" people still thinks it's not art!
So who defines what is art? Neutral people or a bunch of people that have lots of financial interests in calling something art(experts, galleries, collectors etc)? The "old" definition of art is not convenient at all because only few are good enough to produce it and usually there's no big need of expert to explain or convince people, it doesn't create work, there's not enough money to gain.

And stop with this craftmanship bullshit, obviously art evolves and in fact i have never said you need to be Michelangelo or to stay years to make art, manual ability is not the only existing ability, but the only ability that a poop, a void box of shoes or other junk needed was the ability of trolling(and honestly i suspect that their authors made them to troll the art world to see how low it could go) and they are called art just because someone wanted to make money with those, i can see their authors laughing out loud thinking that their junk is called art and being sold for a big amount of money... well i don't need a lot of imagination since i saw it, in Italy there's an awesome irreverent show, one of its episodes was about modern art, IIRC one important artist laughing openly said that he don't do art but he does random things without any meaning or effort, experts call it art and he gains lots of money. ;)

Are you aware that those "timeless masterpieces" you are blabbering about are in fact works chosen and put on the pedestal by selected few privileged taste makers, art historians and curators?
Impressionist paintings many so admire to this day were disdained by the general public at the time they were created. Van Gogh died in the extreme poverty until someone recognised the value of his work and overnight his paintings started to cost fortune.

This is primary school art history knowledge by the way.

Lol.

Do you realise you are contradicting yourself there a bit? You have been told these are masterpieces. Every book says so. I love how people say Mona Lisa or works by Michaelangelo are masterpieces, but if I would ask you why they are masterpieces you wouldn't even have a single insightful thing to say about it.
"EEE why would it be in Louvre then?"
My point was exactly the opposite. Use your f*cking brain, and decide what's art for yourself. Yes, I am very well aware that art market is currently a big problem today, but this is exactly why you have to make up your own mind. There are people like Damien Hirst who are cynically reaping the benefits of it - do I agree with it? No, but it doesn't suddenly discredit all the other artists.

I don't know who is more naive here - me or you - these artists are real people that have to eat something. You would have to be born to a rich family who don't mind supporting you 100% if you want to do art for the sake of art. Which means you would have to come from a privileged background.

I am actually in art college and tell you what - we could have easily done a structured engineering/science course for a 9-5 job if we wanted to. If I went to art college just for financial success, I would be gone after a week, there are much more effective and cheaper ways of achieving it.

I suppose you formed your opinion from the tv show anyway so why do I bother explaining it all to you? Maybe go to a small local gallery, have a look at the work, have a meaningful conversation with the artist if he's present, instead? Or are you going to make opinions on the topic you don't even seem to have much knowledge about? That poop that you are so dearly hanging on to - yes, its purpose was trolling - it was fucking 50 YEARS AGO, and it was a new concept, a reaction to the art world at the time - the artist clearly put the price tag on it because this in itself was a part of commentary on what art is or might be. Are you really that naive to believe he set out to make money on selling feces? If he earned money, it was probably from people who understood the joke and were willing to pay him for this commentary. Not the shit itself. Jesus christ. How old exactly are you?
If someone bought Duchamp's famous urinal, it's because they bought into the concept - a very extraordinary thing at the time because it basically marked the death of art as a commodity and began the times where it is the intellectual value of work counted. Art has become an intellectual endeavour and if you can't look further into it, past the visuals... your problem. People are afraid of admitting that they don't get it in fear they will look stupid. They prefer to be angry about it instead.

"True Art", "True Gaming" ...what a bunch of bollocks. Go dig out your SNES and go back to your cave so. This is the kind of shit that makes me embarrassed to call myself a Gamer, this is the shit that caused GamerGate. It's imbecilic and flat out offensive to think that something from 30-40-50 years ago is superior just because it is "TEH MASTERPIECE" and whoever questions or challenges them should be burned on the stake.
Masterpieces are frameworks to be learned from and/or build upon, yes, but not something to imitate or try to keep the same all over. Again, technology is a good example.

(You really want to know if the game is good? You play it. You really want to know if piece of art is good? You appreciate it.)

By the way, the games that currently make the most money are Call of Duty and not the "arty", indie games so I'm not sure I understand your point. Unless you thought someone here merits artistry of this title solely on the units sold.

Which is exactly why i won't bother continuing this argument mate.

Yeah I just bought my first game on there :D (well, it's actually a gift for my brother but I'm still saving money haha). I have a US paypal account so I just used that this time around, I'll take a look at the cash cards next time.

I have 74 physical release games, buffed up a bit from UK & Asia imports. I browsed through amazon to refresh my memory and found that I'd need 38 more games, not counting a small handful of sports games, to have a complete English language collection. At this point it's just a few things I had to pass on at release, then a bunch of rejects and Lego games.

Luckily I can't read Japanese (never thought I'd say that), or it would never stop, but I still want to pick up a few things like J-Stars eventually. I also still want that Tadeo Jones game from Spain.

There's a few other VitaGAF peeps that have me beat, but I think I'll just focus on the stuff that actually suits my taste for now, then price watch for the rest over time.

Got a text from GameStop sAying tales of hearts R will be available Tuesday "AM". Which means I'm going At lunch. If it is not available I'll be kinda put out...

I got my 15 for spending 100, so that's cool. Are there any other similar deals going right now? Fixing to buy a few big games here soon.

Unfortunately, those deals happen once or twice during the year. I don't think there will be any other like it this year anymore.

Also, wtf:

I considered doing this for Dreamcast. Turns out no matter how "dead" a big platform holder's console was...it still has several hundred games.

VitaGaf are the ones who actually keep the thread going. Until the end of the year, are there even anymore considerably important releases on the system, aside from I guess, Tales of Hearts R and Miku??

A couple of months ago, I suggested to a mod that VitaGAF be given its own thread so we could have a proper (albeit slower) thread for PSN-specific discussion, covering games ad releases for each of the three major systems. I would still favor that.

Be ready for the worst :p I'd actually be surprised if they started selling it THIS tuesday and not the next.

They better not, I'm going out of town and this was going to be my travel gift to myself.

more likely the lazy employees will say it didn't come in and I'll be forced to come back on Wednesday. I know you got the shipment, I know the game is in there, and I know you don't want to add inventory until after close since it's not a big launch week (outside of ass creed).

Why are Delsin and Fetch like best friends like the mission after I take her powers? Am to assume they became besties off screen or something? >__> It's weird how friendly they are with eachother on the mission

We've had multiple discussions about this, I think everyone here agrees with you since it would be the best for both parties. Trust me, I actually feel bad for treating this thread as my Vita hub, as an all Sony consoles owner. I have nowhere to talk about my handheld console though, which I love and is largely neglected already as is, here at least the Vita still has some life and discussion around it. If only the mods could see that the way things are now, things aren't right...

Idk, to be quite honest I'm more of an Amazon guy. I stopped going to EB mainly for stuff like that /:

They bond over mutual gain of super powers? I really like the game despite the plot and total hate of Delsin.

And have both threads rot in the Community section? If this thread gets half the posts now, I can't imagine how few posts the two separate threads would get.

I considered doing this for Dreamcast. Turns out no matter how "dead" a big platform holder's console was...it still has several hundred games.

Dreamcast always seemed like a semi-attainable one to me too, but that was when I still had about 30 really good DC games from when the system was actually around, and nothing had gotten collectible yet.

I don't do rounds at department stores every payday like I did in my early 20's, to catch things on clearance, and never trawl for used games anywhere anymore either. I feel like we're in a different era, so when Vita is on it's death rattle, remaining stock will skip the "no one cares" RIP bomba period (like when I was able to get Snatcher for $6 in 1997), and go straight to inflated-for-no-reason ebay prices... brick and mortar shops know to reference that for pricing instead of not knowing what they have.

Hey everyone, not sure if right thread but it's worth a try.

So I am really new to my Vita and still get confused with stuff like Cross Save with my ps3. I just booted up Hotline Miami on my ps3 for the first time in a while (been playing a lot on my Vita) and, like an idiot, clicked Sync Save Data without having first clicked it on my Vita. I was hoping it would just instantly sync with my Vita save file but that was not the case. How do I transfer/sync the save file off of my Vita to my ps3 at this point? If I click Sync Save Data on my vita, will I lose all the progress I've made from being replaced by the ps3 file?

I am confusing myself just trying to word it. And I just got the Two Birds With One Stone achievement during this little bit of playtime so it would be awesome if there was a way to essentially "fuse" the two save files, but I'm guessing that is impossible. Any help is appreciated

No. Obviously I'd rather the VitaGAF thread rotted in Gaming Community while the all-singing, all-dancing multiplatform PSN thread took those of us in the master race back to the honey-sweet, golden fields of Gaming.

Just my opinion of course.

Since VitaGAF is active here, I might as well ask this again.

How's Samurai Warriors 4 on the Vita? I got one positive answer from someone in the SW4 thread but I would like some more input.

I'm specifically concerned about the sound effects, the sound effects in Orochi 3U vita drops crazy when the action starts to kick in.

It does? I didn't notice it for the 6-8 hours I've played of it. But I wasn't really paying attention to the sound effects in particular.

Yeah, the attack sound effect, horse whisle effects misses quite often.

Some sharp eared players found out that the game can only play 4 different sound effects at once, that apparently includes dialogues within battles.

I have both Warriors Orochi 3 U and Samurai Warriors 4 Vita.
In terms of performance and port quality overall, Samurai Warriors is a vast improvement on Orochi 3U where the Vita is concerned. More enemies are on screen at one time, but the framerate is smoother overall despite this. No sound issues have occurred throughout my playthrough of the various story modes and ect, and the sounds themselves are of decent quality too. The effects are better too although they are rendered at a lower resolution with no AA (similar to Injustice Gods Among Us Vita if you've seen that).

Overall a much better port but there is a lack of content in comparison to Warriors Orochi 3U (two main modes: story and chronicle) and getting good weapons is much more reliant on the RNG gods.

EDIT: Ah, I see what you mean now. Yeah, I've experienced that in Orochi 3U but haven't replicated that on Samurai Warriors 4 yet.

I went to Target earlier today and it seems like SCEA is now putting PlayStation TV stickers on all of their Vita game cases similar to Nintendo putting the 2DS sticker on the 3DS's cases.

All of them? Surely not. (Though, given Target's usual in-store selection, I wouldn't be too surprised...)

Binding of Issac Rebirth Vita looks nice, but the performance is disappointing compared to the PC version and what Vita gamers were promised. :/
