iOS Gaming November 2014: GLORIOUS!™

I took the chance on Kemco's newest RPG, Asdivine Hearts, since TouchArcade seemed to think it was their best effort yet (apparently they've got a guy that has played most of these).

An hour in and I'm not sure, but I'm not out yet either. The music is atrocious and there's far too much talking for what's probably going to be a C or D-level anime plot, but the battle system seems pretty solid and the game's Hard Mode rewards you with better loot (a mechanic I adore). If the chatter dwindles down and the gamey aspects get better (or at least stay decent), I think I'll stick with it.

Just upgraded from a 1st gen iPad 64gb to iPad Air 2 128gb and wow its so snappy and the screen looks great. Only issue I've run into so far has been a couple of times when app switching or on the home screen I noticed a small pop sound (twice over the past 2 days). I'd return it but others on various forums have also had this issue and other major defects (some have had distorting screens and such but mine is fine) so I think I'll just keep it as long as it doesn't get any worse.

What games or apps would you guys say really show off the GPU and general performance of the new iPad? I've played other iOS games before but I've been out of the loop. Not a big fan of Infinity Blade but I've played it before. So far I've played a bunch of Hearthstone on it and it looks amazing though I had already played it a lot on pc. I was looking at some screenshots of Oceanhorn that looks really neat but I'm not sure if it will really grab me since I've already played plenty of Zelda games including on DS and 3DS.

Picked up an iPad Mini 2 and while I know I'm going to love it, I finally see the pain of non-Universal apps. Like I have The World Ends With You and it wants me to by the iPad version again for $19.99. I thought you could run "iPhone only" games in 2x mode or whatever it is but it won't even come up in the store or my history.

Oh well, guess that's one downside.

Store lists default to "iPad Only," in the top corner. Switch it and you'll find your app.

Anyone play this? Saw the game while browsing the IGF 2015 entries

Any favorite mfi games lately? I love playing in bed with my iPad mounted and my steel series Bluetooth controller under the blanket.

Just wish more games supported it :(

Tried that but there's still some games that will not show up. Not sure if it's because a game like The World Ends With You have an iPad specific version.

I'm fact, I Googled the iPhone version and clicked on it and, like iPad games on iPhone, I got the error message on the App Store saying "This item is only available for iPhone".

How can there be the Fighting Games Weekly thread in Gaming but monthly iOS in community? These changes don't make any sense.

TWEWY is one of very few games which are completely locked into either iPhone or iPad versions.

After GLORIOUS(TM) weeks, I'm game-less!!!

Besides Gems of War (still great, but now that my party is full of legendary characters is a tad too easy), not only I've completed what I bought...but even my to buy list is just 2 titles (Kingdoms and Galactic Keep:Dice wars, which I'm already playing as beta tester).

Not sure what this year will bring (next Rodeo game which I'm greatly anticipating is slated for 2015)...I'm considering buying Muertitos even if it's another match-3 game...but it seems cool.

What people are waiting for that is slated to be out THIS year?

My top games for this year so far are:

Banner Saga
Out There
Sailor's Dream
Talisman
Nightmare Cooperative
Star Realms
Threes
Gems of War (a freemium title, blasphemy!)

in no particular order.

Don't bother until you get the more high level stuff. Once you hit the Robot Factory, start pumping those hyperbits into their. You'll start making a ton of money when you're away. I wasted a bunch of hyperbits in the early stages that ended up not helping me out very much.

I seriously have a very difficult time ever stopping. My boyfriend is very upset with me, haha.

Robot factory? There is robot butlers, or electric car factory?

- Monument Valley expansion
- Lumino City
- Framed

Gunslugs 2 got pushed to January, game is 99% complete

Thing about IOS is that release dates are so fluid and games tend to just pop up out of the blue.

I forgot to mention Monument Valley expansion which of course will be mine the moment lands on the AppStore, not greatly (so far) interested in Framed but

WHOAH!!!
Knew nothing about Lumino City till now, looks great and right up my alley!

Thanks for mentioning...when is it supposed to arrive?

Holy wow! Just looked it up, and I'm in the same boat as you Pitta!

Seems as if it's the sequel of sorts of their previous game Lume, which seems much more point-and-click than this

Yeah it's a sequel to Lume, and it's from the devs of Kami. The PC version is supposed to release this month, with the IOS version soon after

Oh, and forma.8 is another game I'm anticipating, that's coming out "next year as soon as possible " (also PC, PS4, Vita, WiiU)

Been thinking about the best exclusive iOS games (well, maybe that other crappy popular mobile platform also have them, dont know...) I ever played and I think this is the list:

Worm Run: as always, top spot, the pinnacle of endless runners, a spin-off of the genre-
Out There: waiting for the Omega update...
10000000: new entry, completely addicted to it, someone please help me xD
Gesundheit!: stealth + action + fresh + addictive + charming + polished + ...
1001 Attempts: Super fun for those 5 minute breaks that end up being a super fun 20 minutes break Super Meat Boy style...
Indiana Stone: The Brave and the Bold - best BTB runner: fun + fun + fun = fun
Slayin: A different endless game, half PRG, half rogue-like, half runner = fun
Threes: Honestly, dont know why this is here but it is... makes me think I guess.... but couldn't do this list without it.
Dead Ahead: Zombies + #freemiumdoneright + fun = Dead Ahead
Badland: Dynamic physics + coop + multiplayer + fun + fun = Best flap-former ever...

Runner ups:
Skullduggery: best use of the slingshot mechanic I seen
Splot: perfect arcade platforming racer if you ask me...
Blast-A-Way: bomb + explosions + puzzle + Illusion Labs + ...
Puzzle to the Center of the Earth: a freemium tad away from glory...
The Last Rocket: a widescreen support thin line separated it from the top spots

Been thinking about the best exclusive iOS games (well, maybe that other crappy popular mobile platform also have them, dont know...) I ever played and I think this is the list:
Wayward Souls
Device 6
Mikey Shorts/Hooks/Boots
Ridiculous Fishing
Punch Quest
Into the Dead
Super QuickHook
Drop 7
Super Glyph Quest
Darkin (knocked Dungeon Raid off my list)
Ziggurat
Wrestle Jump
Soccer Physics
Spaceteam

I left a lot off that may be on Android but I just don't know it, and some that were iOS exclusive but have since gone to Steam in one form or another.

I tried Drop7 but didn't see the appeal. Why is it so highly praised?

Oh, and regarding Lumino City

Radical Rappelling from us Halfbrickians is still in soft launch mode, but we've expanded! The game is now available in the UK!

We've also updated twice since the initial release - with brand new "rare" clothing unlocks and awesome rare randomized boosts! Now you can look as cool as my guy.

If you're in Australia, New Zealand, UK, Canada or Singapore, download it for free now! Feedback would be much appreciated, and I'll pass on anything to the devs :)

It's just a really easy to learn, fun to play matching game. It requires a lot of thinking and I guess skill to be able to do really well in it too, but if you get into it, you can feel yourself improving naturally as you learn how to manipulate the board in different ways to protect yourself from getting a bunch of 1s that can't be cleared out.

Ahh yes, forma.8! Another great title for my Wii U that I wouldn't be able to play without it ;)

I loved Futuridium, this looks even better.

That looks pretty cool. Wonder when it'll be put on iOS?

Also was reading Pocket Gamer's roundup of the week and that big "secret game" is supposedly coming out next week. Anyone have any clue as to what it may be?

Might be the GoT (from telltale) game, it's been teased a lot lately and its first episode should be out soon.

Ok, Muertitos is pretty great.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Mesmerizing music too.

Think Threes...but different.

And melanchonic.
And monstrous...but a cute type of monstrous.

Very polished.

Muertitos, a match 3 game to die for!

Muertitos is an original fun puzzle game that uses the match 3 mechanic in a new way. If you love puzzles and crazy mexican traditions, Muertitos is the game for you.

Features:
32 different characters available in two different sets (more coming soon)
4 different power-ups
Highscore leaderboard
Share your highscore to social networks
Share your calverita
Amazing OST
Crazy SFX
Completely average 4x4 Game Board
And tons of surprises!
A big THANK YOU to everyone who has played any of our games!

It's a good one guys, definitely in my top 5 of 2014.

Robot factory? There is robot butlers, or electric car factory?

Yep, sorry, meant Robot Butlers. That was the exact moment I started to notice it was taking longer and longer to reach any meaningful bit collection. Now that I own two Holographic Dating things, I am raking in the coins. I threw the dev $2, but I don't find myself needing to purchase anything else. Should have everything unlocked in the next three days.

Edit: Also, make sure to just tap the screen with three fingers simultaneously. It's the fastest way to tap and doesn't exhaust you. Frantically tapping with all of your fingers is no faster than just casually tapping with three fingers.

Is it any good?

I think it is. Great visuals and gameplay (of course it takes time to master the drift). It's more difficult than other racers and some may say that encourages IAPs. But I don't see them as necessary. You just have to adapt. You can really feel the difference between cars as well.

Worth checking out for free IMO.

Just felt the need to say this for Pitta. Banner Saga was sweet on my 5S.

But on my new iPad, it's beyond GLORIOUS!!!! So much better.

Yeah, I absolutely love the music. Honestly the only non-Simogo iOS game that I have the sound on for

I just bought and it's really addicting and well done so far.
Very polished too...really glad I supported this indie studio I didn't know.

The more you play, the more 'faces' you unlock.

I confess that getting out a crowded situation feels pretty much as when you unlock a new monster in Threes. (

10000000 isn't ios exclusive, but it is very addictive.

It is addicting... at first I didnt like it, but then unlocked a door and I could upgrade my weapon, dealing more damage and making the game easier (is challenging) and then I was hooked all day, been playing it nonstop for days now... didnt know that was ported to other platforms, good for them.

Incoboto
Penumbear
Jet Car Stunts 2
Device 6

Although hate to say it but regarding 1000000000...

Nice list, very congruent too.

Wayward Souls

You have been on iOS for a while looking at that list... good one by the way.

I had Darkin there but 10000000 stole the throne from it...

I also looked at my list and a few of them are on Android too, others on Steam... iOS is getting places xD

Jeez... That's tough. Real tough.

Okay I wrote a list of 11, but then I went off with a list of honorable mentions, so I'm going to just put one.

Heroes & Castles

Have we heard anything more about the new Kingdom Rush game? Wasn't it supposed to be out by the end of the year?

They have been teasing things on their twitter account. They retweeted somebody saying that they are beta testing it. The release date was always "Fall" so it should be any time now.

So this week we got the Monument Valley expansion, definitely my most anticipated release. Anything else noteworthy coming out this week?

I don't think it'll be out by the end of the year.

I'm actually on the beta testing team but they sent the invite email to a deactivated email and I'm too lazy to straighten it all out
