getting so hyped for this, especially after josh holme's tweet. i'm not one who needs everything classic halo style to enjoy the game, just the key stuff, and maybe, just maybe they have that and it will work out just fine even if its different. different can be good. different is exciting.

People think the screens look bad? Really? Looks really nice and clean to me.

compared to the e3 screens? yes. geometry is really really angular. lighting is non-existent. spartan colors are washed out. its kinda yuck.

Yea, during the HaloFest stuff tonight, there's supposed to be a match played from the beta content.

Yep, I agree with you. A tap should always be a melee and a hold, say 1 full second, is an execution.

Will Halo Fest be streamed live on twitch? What time will it be :) I can't wait.

[...] have drawn the competitive game just a little closer to the kind of quick reflexes and accuracy normally associated with aiming down sights religiously.

Looks angular by design to me. Works fine for this environment, and I actually really like the look of the floor texture. I guess the test will be to see how the game looks in a more "natural" environment.

I just remember how blah the first Halo 3 screens looked, and find these screens much more appealing. Never forget: http://n4g.com/news/viewstoryimage/15157

Yeah, I find ADS interferes not only with visibility (which might be by design) but also feedback clarity. In Destiny I often have to watch for numbers to pop up to make sure I killed something, as the combination of recoild and the gun model block visibility to the enemy after firing on them.

There are five Halo games demonstrating that not using ADS works very well in Halo games. Using ADS but removing movement and aim penalties seems like an attempted compromise with the CoD vs. Halo crowd; keep the movement options of the latter and the visual style of the former. A common critique of Halo 4 is that it attempted to chase the CoD crowd while still being a Halo game, while failing at both. It seems this is another crack at the same, though less egregious than say, global ordnance drops.

Agree with everything, just wanted to add that whilst Halo 4 had a 70-80million user install base within which to risk the longevity of the title, and risk they did in the worst possible way, it seems they're going down a similar path but this time MS/343 will have to contend with trepidation from what is left of the core fanbase, and a much smaller user base within which to (shamelessly) front load sales, longevity be damned.

Pretty big risk they're taking IF they attempt to implement more flavour of the day mechanics. It'll be a shame, but hopefully they'll take note of Halo 4's rapid post launch drop off....and not blame it on the game not being CoD-like enough, which I fear was/is/will be the decision makers' reasoning for H5. Time will tell.

That has to be a forge map.

hope so. this environment, a test bed of sorts, and its simple geometry pieces would work well as a forge pallet.

Honestly, it looks Halo 4 in 1080p XD

I'm expecting it to look a lot nicer when in movement, and even better come launch, but those screens are really disappointing

haven in h4 looks quite a bit more detailed.

WIth the addition of ADS in the beta I do not expect high end sales at all, especially playing 90% (rumored) of the campaign as a character nobody gives a shit about. They got away with it with the first real Chief title in years. People will not be fooled again.

A game coming out a year from now is disappointing

Those screens are disappointing, that doesn't mean the game currently is, even less that it will look like that on release.

I have faith on 343, they were goddamn wizards on H4, and I'm confident they will deliver again in Halo 5. But those screens are not impressive at all xD

Yup being able to use the scope on your gun and sprint are total game breakers and we can now all pass judgment that this game is going to suck.

no ADS, not 10%.

people SHOULD wait a little over an hour, or better yet december when they can play it first hand, before forming solid opinions

Whats wrong is that you expect them to be when it's in super early alpha for a AAA game.

When it comes to the online component I'd rather see more focus put on frame rate, resolution and image quality anyway. Everything else is just a nice extra that you'll get used to after enough time has passed. Jaggies, screen tearing and blurriness are always noticeable though.

Look man, they released the screens and we have a right to voice our opinion on them. If everybody just waited a year to comment on them this thread would have zero replies.

They look bad as it stands. Maybe it will get better, maybe not.

Well if ADS is an option and not a requirement to shoot accurately then all is fine, I think...

Even though I didn't play the beta, it's not surprising that people are concerned about what we know so far.

Sprint, ADS, vault animation, do we really need this? Halo is the only FPS on consoles that features an oldschool feel to it and this is starting to end =/

I really don't think Halo 5 will be good after playing H4 and reading all these stuff, but I really hope I'm very wrong.

Good thing we have MCC :D

I think halo 4 forge would be a better comparison because those peices look very modular. If 343 has added real time reflections to forge then the Halo: G screen may be more impressive from a technical standpoint rather than an artistic standpoint.

OR people could not talk about the graphics so an interesting discussion has an actual chance of occurring.

Also I don't care if they comment on the graphics. I don't want to hear that they expected better. All-fuckin-right?

Stop trying to stifle other people's voices. This is a discussion forum and as such we have a right to talk about whatever we feel is relevant.

Alright alright?

So people expect the game to look better than these bullshots?

I see nothing unbelievable about these shots and the game isn't due for another year, so yeah, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect it to be prettied up a bit more by release. Campaign could look much better given the usual difference in how visuals between campaign and multi work out in past Halo games.

Wow. I'm fairly certain they must be using Halo 4 models as placeholders then.

Though some of the visuals and gameplay additions at first glance raise an eyebrow for me, some thoughts:

-if ADS does in fact function uniquely in that it's basically just a cosmetic zoom, I'm all for it as I think based on those videos, it makes Halo look far more immersive. If there's movement penalty, or hip-fire headshots won't be possible, I'm going to be super bummed -- as I've always leaned away from CoD and Battlefield for ADS being so mandatory and pace-breaking. But I don't mind the bottom bit of the screen being covered by the gun at all, it's the least important visual area, and based on the clips, does a lot to modernize the look of the shooting.

-Don't mind sprint. I'll always love Halo 1-3 for their sprint-less nature, but sprint in Halo 4 was the least egregious thing it did, and in my opinion, made large maps much more tolerable. Halo 4's biggest MP fuckup was always the perks, ordinance drops, and above all: completely abandoning weapon-location-based map control which was always a staple of the series.

-The screens look fine, I'm neither wowed nor disappointed -- it does seem to visually veer a little close to Halo 4 from an art standpoint (maybe due to placeholder assets since it's so far off from release). But based on the blurry clips, it looked gorgeous, so I'm hopeful. We'll see soon enough.

I have a feeling the game will look much better when seen in motion, though I think the screens look nice as is. We only have one more hour to see it for ourselves, folks.
