Assassin's Creed: Unity microtransaction currency prices revealed ($9.99 to $99.99)

Good lord.

This is obviously from the outside looking in, but everything I hear about this game is pretty much a horror story of all the shitty things that have been popping up in the industry lately. Edit: Lately meaning the last few years.

My nightmare made flesh.

The thing about the treasure chests prompting you to sign up for the companion app is like, 10 levels worse than Destiny's lore cards.

That might have sealed the deal, not buying.

This game is basically like the Trojan horse of every horrible game design direction that has been occurring for the past six years :(

Basically this. I'm absolutely disgusted that Ubisoft designed a game where you have to use an IOS/Andriod App Just to open a god damn chest. This shit needs to stop.

I would say I'm shocked and speechless, but in reality... This is what we've all been fearing, isn't it? We expected this to come. Son of a bitch.

They're punishing purchasers with F2P bullshit:

I tried to open a treasure chest, but was told I needed the Assassin’s Creed companion app to open it, with no additional information or context.

I tried to open another treasure chest, and was told I needed to sign up for Assassin’s Creed Initiates to open it.

When I paused the game, the second option in the pause menu is an eStore that lets you spend real money on time-saving boosts, bonus in-game currency, and so-on.

Opening chest, something you're used to giving you something, after looking for the collectible is now service restricted/paywalled.

And yeah, even using the word "micro" transactions seems like it plays right into their plan.

It's 100 fucking dollars, nothing micro about that.

This is disgusting beyond belief.

And gamers will still go along with it and support it for the most part like every other time that's come before.

It's why we're in this sorry state.

Disgusting. I read that they are not forced or needed, which had better be the case when I start playing later. Shit like this bothers me more than tech issues.

No doubt. I would gladly (well...) put up with the tech issues if the game didn't feel like it was about to pop out of my console and take money out of my wallet.

Wait, it has microtransactions??

Is that a series first?

Man, Ubi. :/

Nope, the microtransactions have been a part of the multiplayer part since AC3, AC3 also had 'dlc' that unlocked in-game bonuses you could earn through getting all of the collectibles. This is just a new low.

Have only played around 3 hours of the game so far. When looking at the prices of some of the items they did seem pretty steep. Though I just unlocked the cafe stuff and have started to gain additional income from that. Still early to tell if it will be a very hard grind to unlock items by with just the regular currency.

Played the PS4 version for a few hours earlier today. While its optional it looks like you have to grind a lot of side missions to earn enough money for weapons/clothes.

This game is literally the epitome of the negative associations with the AAA industry.

-Massive bloated budget

So selling a 60 dollar game isn't enough. They now need to get more money out of you.

Chances are, the economy system is skewed in such a way that the only plausible way to achieve large sums of money is to spend real money.

This is such a shame. This game really was a wake up call.

Added that note to the OP. Unsure if it's the free version or the premium version.

I'm sure they'll get that fixed, but still. This wouldn't be so aggravating if there weren't other treasure chests that could only be opened if you have been using the game's iOS and Android companion app.

It's entierly optional !

I don't know if you're joking or not, but they aren't actually optional.

I mean, in a sense they are because you don't have to buy them, but in a sense they're not, because the game has been designed to make you want to buy them, so you have to deal with the altered pacing of the way the game doles out those resources whether you eventually buy the resources with real money or not.

What's $100 for a huge publisher like Ubisoft? It's tiny, that's why they are called microtransactions.

So what are the chances this blows up in their face? They must have seen what happened to Forza.

$100 to skip a timer, amazing design.

I don't know what's happened to this industry I grew up with from when it started.

Maybe if developers didn't need a massive budget for what at times feels like participating in an interactive movie "PRESS X TO OPEN DOOR" they could go back to basics and concentrate on, y'know, gameplay at an affordable cost and then not need to charge us extra on top of the core game.

I hope people are now starting to unterstand that buying games with micro transactions in it, even if you do not use them is, is supporting the idea of micro transactions in full priced games.

Ubi are acting like the French Monarchy, squeezing every penny out of the populous via a hugely unfair financial system.....

Until we rise up and revolt. AC Unity is our tennis court oath moment.

That's meta

Please stop buying their games. Don't let them get away with this.
