Played the PS4 version for a few hours earlier today. While its optional it looks like you have to grind a lot of side missions to earn enough money for weapons/clothes.

As long as it does not reach f2p levels of grind like Black Flag, then I'm good. But if it does, it's the kind of thing that will make me just drop the game.

So it's the $60 video game version of this strategy guide:

One of these days, there will be a microtransaction for a locked frame rate.

$4.99 locked framerate patch

Their justification will be:

-Most gamers will be satisfied with the performance of the base game. If you wish for better performance, buy this patch. This patch required extra development time, so please understand why this patch comes at a premium.

First I fell for Watch Dogs and now this. Fuck this company I'm not buying any Ubisoft games anymore. This is straight ripping off the consumer.

I thought maybe they added such things in order to play with friends, but then again why are you paying to buy real items in a game that is not an MMO? You're only going to be playing this until the next installment comes out. You aren't paying for a subscription either. I miss when you owned a game without having to look back and forth at your bank account.

There should be enough in the actual game to cancel out this type of thing. A complete package would warrant an expansion purchase yes, but not small details along the way.

They have to make money and you don't have to do it, but I think it just feels bad.

Tempting to make a PSA topic telling people not to buy this game but alas, I have too much work to put enough thought into it.

DON'T GIVE THEM IDEAS, FUCK.

I could legit see that happening.

Well, at least that's good.

Yah, the premium version just unlocks some OP assassins (and other misc in-app things)within the ios game to send out on timer "missions". Those timed missions unlock the in-game chests.

It's just like the black flag companion app. (sending out ships, etc.)

This should be a major strike against Ubisoft/AC in the reviews. Haven't read them all, but do they even mention it?

It's so dirty that it feels illegal, surely there is a way to make a bigger deal out of this. A good old twitter fire would do nice #butialreadypaidfullprice

$99.99?!! o_O

Should we even be calling these micro-transactions anymore?

Publishers would really appreciate it if you wouldn't re-name an already disgusting business practice to something more accurate.

The saddest part of all of this is that they WILL be profitable off of these practices regardless of places like NeoGAF making a fuss about it. The majority of people playing this game will be blind-sided when they run into it in-game.

I recommend everyone watch the recent South Park episode (episode six of the current season) regarding freemium. These practices are going to wreck people with gambling addictions.

I just checked the assassins creed Facebook page to see if there were negative impressions allowed.

The page is all advertisements. A whole bunch of comment spam (ubisoft don't care about nothin) and worst of all many memes from futurama. The one where fry says "take all my money" including ones tailored to assassins creed. People begging ubi to rob them.

The fact the someone doesn't monitor the spam but the page is all advertisements (little about the actual game) is telling. But the fans...

Fuck this.

What about Rogue? It's getting better reviews and if it doesn't have this bullshit as well I think folks should rally that and support Rogue to help tell Ubisoft what's up.
How about not giving them any money? Could we rally around that instead?

Rockefellers. Skull and Bones. Microsoft. Al Qaeda. A Cabal of Bankers. The melting point of steel. What do these things have in common? Wake up sheeple, the landfill wasn't even REAL!
that's worst than low framerate and glitches

Stuff like this is making me want to quit gaming. DLC is bad enough. Now fuckibg micro transactions after paying $60 for a game? Fuck off.

So what's the deal with this companion app?

Is it just a way to throw advertisements at you? Get you to buy stuff?

Talk about a game breaking moment. Oh I climbed out of the way to get this chest! Hopefully I get something good!

"Please download our app to receive the treasure inside"

Fuuuuuuu!

I'm so fucking worried for Far Cry 4 now. God, this year of gaming has been so disappointing.

We got Shadow of Mordor and the full version of Lethal League, though, so it wasn't a total loss.

But yeah. Between all the games that got overhyped and the Gamergate insanity, this year has been kind of shit. :/

Do these publishers really think that this business model can grow, let alone survive, on kids accidentally over charging their parents accounts?

This game is basically like the Trojan horse of every horrible game design direction that has been occurring for the past six years :(

I'd say that the first post nails it but at least the Trojan Horse was a clever idea and a good disguise.

Please do not support these practicies. Do not buy games with micro transactions in them. Not using them has zero impact on the publisher to not implement them. Only completely boycotting these games will help.

A couple of years ago, Ubisoft was the only western AAA 3rd party studio I would buy games from. Ever since they delayed the Wii U version of Rayman, they've been doing everything in their power to destroy the respect I had for them. It's going to take a lot before I consider purchasing a game from them again.

The cost model of aaa gaming is unsustainable so they do this. I can't wait for the industry to collapse on itself.

Dear ubisoft.

It's not a microtransaction when the largest amount exceeds the price of the game. You are morons.

Yours less than sincerly
