Xbox Support: 343 blocking refunds for Halo: MCC

Slow? It doesn't fucking work at all.

You corporate apologists disgust me. Have some goddamn respect for yourselves.
Wait, now I'm a corporate apologist? Lol, no, I'm just sick of these anecdotal refund stories. And I'm an attorney and all I'm saying is legally there's no chance you would be entitled to a refund because the online portion of a video game was slow, or even really slow, for a few days. The threshold for not working as intended is much lower than that. Keep on fighting the power, though.

This has nothing to do with his right to a refund.
OP can get a refund, buy it again, and get another refund if he wants to, I have no problem with it. My comment was my personal feeling on getting a refund now based on a day and a half of trouble for a product I'm going to be coming back to for the next half decade.

I get the refund thing and I am with you. The shit thing is you said you are going to get it again once it works so that sounds dumb even to me. There is a lot of game there that is working just fine. Also if I get a physical copy and it doesn't work I can't return it once I open it so why should you be able to after you played it?

From the get go we all understood this game is huge and because it takes them a bit of time at the start to get it all working 100% how is that not understandable? Almost all huge online games take a bit to get running. Right now wow is shitting the bed too and the forums are full of people blowing a fuse. I imagine it is really hard to be prepared for what kind of impact the release is going to have. Too bad this game didn't have some kind of beta where we could all poke at it and let them fix shit before this.

If you can return the digital copy then I should be able to return the box copy for the same reasons.

How is that shit ok? Just pay, beat it and then get all your money back. Sounds like a plan to me.

I say again, why get a refund for a game you're going to buy again?

You think you're sending a message about not releasing buggy games when in fact all you're really doing is letting them say "Hey we sold one more copy"

Maybe he'll buy a physical copy for cheap in 6 months

Maybe he'll buy used

Maybe he'll change his mind if it seems things aren't resolved to his satisfaction

Yea. If I knew that you wanted a refund because the matchmaking wasn't working within the first 2 days and there are 4 campaigns I wouldn't give you a refund either!

There are 4 campaigns, custom games, and forge.

Shut up already!

Back in the day $60 got you Halo CE lan Only.

My argument is above shut up. Nice eyes you got there.

I hope your being sarcastic.

Pretty shitty practice from 343. What I cannot stand is how two faced they are about stuff like this. They claim to listen to the community and have the best intentions in mind but really it is all just a facade to get people to buy their latest product. It sucks because there are genuinely good people working there but as an organization they have made one bad move after another to the point where they took what was my favorite franchise and made me completely lose interest in it. No matter what the game is they produce, it will be a 343 product and have all the issues associated with it.

It's just not worth it anymore.

There are good people working there - that's true. Unfortunately, it was sad to see how outsourced MCC was. They rushed it for the holidays and it shows. The game isn't polished. I love Halo like everyone else, but for a billion dollar franchise they need to be more careful with it.

People paid money expecting a fully functional product. They didn't get it.

Did you buy the game? Are you satisfied? If so, you have 4 campaigns, custom games, and forge.

Go play them, and shut up already.

MS took your money, MS has to refund your money. Ask to speak to management

They don't have to do shit.

OP, have you tried calling back and speaking to a different rep?

Working on it. They keep going back to talk to a manager but I think I am making my argument. They said most likely since they are getting pounded with calls on it some kind of announcement will go out to the reps.

The phone and chat people are not connected so there must be some truth to Microsoft (maybe not 343 directly) trying to skate on the refunds. If they are using 343's name, then shame on them.

If you're in the UK, their company policy means sod-all compared to UK law. If it doesn't work as described, you can get a refund.

The amount of people that would actually request a refund is so damn small (and a lot of them might actually rebuy the game once it's working) that it makes no sense from a PR/good will standpoint to honor all of them with no issues. Some of these companies can be so damn brain dead from that standpoint.

I don't think like I am going to change the world, I mean it's just consumer rights. Maybe if none of us accepted this anymore they wouldn't do it. Do you have any idea how many comic cons, E3's and every other place they could have been to promote this I have watched? Its becoming the norm, let's advertise the piss out of this and they will buy it day one even if its shit. It's even more common with AAA games and it should be the opposite right?

I just got AC Unity, it's unplayable in parts due to stutter and framerate issues. Why is this ok?

I can't really disagree with anything you said here, to be honest.

I don't understand people's logic. Why do you want a refund for a game you know you're gonna buy later for full price? Is the economy that bad?

The one thing I will say is based on what I was told I did in the end accuse 343 directly myself. I am making progress on the phone but they will not tell me what the issue is or not so maybe MS marching orders. I left my original comment in for honesty.

How "later" though? I can also say I'll just buy Assassin's Creed Unity later which may be a week, a month, or a year from now.

Also, what is up with all the meltdowns?

Wow people will be corporate apologists for anything and everything. Have a little respect for yourself and others as consumers, God damn!

I just find it hard to believe that a customer service rep has that knowledge, and even then, that 343 industries would go through the lengths to ensure the handful of people who don't want their game have to keep it.
I think it's obvious the reps were briefed before hand and given talking points and instructions on how to prevent refunds.

If you've made a purchase digitally, who's to say you've even bought it from a UK subsidiary. Don't have of these companies funnel the payments via Luxembourg or Ireland?
Because if that's the case then the distance selling act means nothing as you've bought it from another country.

Besides, even in UK retail consumer rights act doesn't mandated that a company has to give you a refund for a faulty product.

Most of the people I've seen wanting refunds have said they'll buy the game once the MM is fixed, which will take like a week at most.

Maybe they want to spend the money on something else. You know, something that actually works and they can enjoy now? Not everyone has the same kind of free time (I saw some folks taking off time to play this for a couple days for instance). Why do people need to justify their reasons. Shipping a broken product isn't acceptable.

What if I got it half price? What does it matter what the cost is anyway? It's the point, it's not me saying it doesn't work, they know it doesn't work. You could argue that everyone if they wanted should get a refund right?

I find it really interesting some of the responses here, not Masterz117 I mean in general. You really wonder why this keeps happening. You guys remember Twisted Metal, another game that launched totally broken. People were killing Jaffe, that was 2012. In 2014 this should not happen and it's actually common and accepted now.

You can't possibly know that as a fact. Sure in all likelihood it will be fixed in a week, but who knows. Why can't OP get his money back for a product that is defective until the time it's fixed whenever that may be?

Amazing isn't it?
Yeah and it makes me sad. People when you go to your interview for that job at MS, telling them you defended them for not providing a refund to some guy on a forum isn't going to give you that extra little push to get the job over the next guy.

Yah, i don't know why people are going crazy over others asking for refunds.

I held off on getting COD:Advanced Warfare because of MCC. If MCC isn't working in a week or so i'd appreciate a refund to purchase COD so i can enjoy something NOW instead of weeks or a month from now.

Looks like a good thread for Mods to clean house in. Overdue.

OP, this is some bullshit. If the game doesn't work, a refund should be offered. That's my 2 cents and moral support.

edit: looks like 343 (or whoever) came through with a refund. good stuff!

Basically. I'd like to reward developers for making a game that works. I don't want to give them money on the premise that it'll work eventually.

Yikes! Sucks that they're giving push-back on refunds, I mean if the game is broken, as a consumer, there have to be some rights. If the game was working as advertised, then that's a whole different story.

Didn't Sony/MS issue refunds when during the whole BF4 launch? I thought I heard something about that. I think same with Driveclub?

I have got a couple refunds for games from ms and I always ended keeping what I had. Could this maybe be a problem on there end disabling the game from people that are getting refunds?

I regret so much buying MCC and Unity. Both games broken on launch. NEVER again will I pre-order digital games and pre-load, unless it's a trusted developer (with a stellar track record) or if the game has reviews out prior to launch night. I regret so much supporting both of these games/bad practices.

I tried to get a refund for Unity, and they told me to contact Ubisoft. The ONLY reason I'm not asking for a refund for MCC, is because I have like 15 GAF friends that bought it, and I know I will eventually play with them. But this is unacceptable.

Unity is so bad there are parts in the game you can't do because of the framerate.

I can completely see where the OP is coming from. I'm willing to give it some time but for those that are really tiring of this kinda launch stuff, hit em where it hurts. Ask for a refund. The only reason 343 would attempt to block them is because they know people might seek it. Seems rational to ask for your money back until you see the purchase worth making.

Yep. I was trying to traverse inside a cathedral. And I had to make it across the other side of the room (it was a small room). And the game crashed to a slow crawl, FPS just completely tanked. Took me like 5 min to get to where I needed to be, even though it should have taken a minute.

So much wrong with Unity, it's not even funny. Also, the more I play it, the more I just find the game baffling. The graphics look hideous in parts (character models, especially NPCS. But even during some cut scenes, there are characters that legit look unfinished). This is definitely a rushed/unfinished product. I honestly think Black Flag looked better on PS4. Not even lying.

Yesterday I took the day off to play this game. After waiting now 2 days from the midnight launch I have yet to get into a match. I decided return it until it is actually working. Since I bought it digitally I contacted Microsoft Xbox support. They were more than happy to process the return. I was surprised when they told me the refund failed stating:

Xbox Support:

I am not going to go on some kind of rant but this is nonsense. I 100% would have bought again, maybe later honestly when the issues were resolved. Either way, if the game is not working now there should be no difference between this and any other game.

I know there will be some who say I should wait, be patient etc but I am sick of these games launching totally broken. This one after a 15GB day one patch. I don't think this is unreasonable. Making it worse is that there is a block from 343 on refunds do they are not willing to accept any repercussions on this.

Edit: This may be a MS issue and not directly 343 so if that is the case I apologize. I only directly put them in this because of the chat above.

You are entitled to a refund. If the customer service rep told you all that stuff, they were incorrect.

343 wouldn't even know who to talk to, to tell them any such nonsense. Everyone here is heads down fixing the issues, not messing with consumers.

Apologies for your experience but it is not some developer mandate. It doesn't even work like that.

I have flagged it and it will be dealt with.
