Someone is streaming GTA V on PS4

Ow shit... Idk how to react on this... Specially after being sure that kids will play that shit.

So? If parents are too dumb to check the back of the box for the content then they'll just have to find out what's in the game after they see their kid playing it.

Am I the only one who wasn't affected by that gif at all? Just felt like it did in third person.

Third person never feels as personal to me. Feels like I'm controlling a toon. Shrug.

Yeah, I'm with you in that regard. It's the visceral reaction of seeing it in first person that's crazy. Before we didn't see the blood literally leaking out of the person's head. It doesn't make a difference to most of the people in this post but I understand the perspective of a parent's outrage at this game. This is a solid Mature game and does not belong in the hands of minors.

All of us grown folk are fine but I'll admit that was a shock when I saw it. It has more to do with the first person perspective and the nature of this game as whole.

To reiterate:

Keep this game out of the hands of minors.
Parents enable the block on your system that stops children from playing this game if you so choose.
The rest of us will enjoy this game on release date.

*Looks forward to the PS4 preload*

Yeah, I can't wait to play this game. This is definitely a gamechanger for me, feels kind of refreshing that a game could make me feel weird like that.

It's GTA in another perspective. I remember playing Vice City with a girl's brother at her house. He was going down the road with a chainsaw. It's nothing different in terms of what you're viewing; it just happens to look 100x better.

It for sure isn't Postal. I absolutely hate that comparison.

Got some glimpses of this earlier at work. I have to say, even with the macro blocking, the game looks great. I may have to end up getting a PS4.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
First person headshot gif from my recording.

How can first person make shooting a virtual person more realistic? It was already violent enough in third person.

Is that what people are actually discussing? I'm pretty sure people are just trying to conflate the notion that the act, regardless of portrayal, is completely identical and as a result irrelevant in how much more real it can be perceived. If you're drawing stick figures shooting each other up or showing it in a photo realistic manner, it can only be equally as shocking.

Yeah you did. Check out 1:48 on this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ujm1MjCobCc

It's always been there, even since GTA III IIRC. I don't see how "this" is different now. GTA has always been realistic and violent. GTA IV wasn't 'cartoony' like somebody mentioned.

I don't see it any different than the murder hallways of other FPS games. That said, I hated the
torture
scene in GTA V.

It ain't GTA unless it's a bit controversial.

If you can't get past GTA then you might as well never watch another television show, movie, or anything on the subject matter of violence. It's sold to the general public and it's your choice if you decide to pick it up or not.

Oh god, I didn't even think about this. How is it even going to work in the first-person perspective? That's going to be weird.
Im going to guess not all parts of the game will be in First person. Like sections where you are not in direct control. But we will see.

Ah, that's where that comes from. Stole that from MMOs.

most FPS dont let you shoot innocent people though(especially with their hands raised), and ussualy the enemies tou can shoot are robots, aliens or masked/full helmeted men too.

Yeah, won't have an issue shooting a soldier. Was shook seeing a kwik mart clerk shot in the head while raising his hands in surrender. I feel like people are being obtuse to why that caught a few people off guard, most of which are people who will still buy the game regardless.

man, this is gif is going to be everywhere eventually just you watch. As if something not real life means not reality this is why video games are 18+ because at that age you know what the sense of reality is. If a parent is being a bad parent then thats their fault.

Why? Been doing stuff like this since goldeneye :D, I used to replay the facility over and over and over just for those scientists.

Same here. I knew just how many times I could shoot them without killing them. I would shoot them in the crotch and feet just for laughs. I was playing the game at Blockbuster before or right after it was released and the guy watching me saw me do it and said "You're sick!". It was a proud moment.

Heh, and then sometimes I think people take the game too seriously. I was on online and joking about going after a paramedic and some guy got really offended and was like, "Don't do that!" As if I some how thought that was ok behavior in real life. (No way, anyone who would hurt some one whose whole career is trying to help/save people is super scum imho). But for some reason something about that in GTA that makes it extra funny to me to do and I just don't think people should take the game seriously or what you do in it seriously. I think it's the whole get in the mentality of doing stuff you'd never do in real life. I'm a monster in GTA honestly.

(I also don't think kids or anyone immature or mentally instable should be playing this game because it pretty much has you playing as a monster. It amazes me people let their kids play it. If I had a kid he/she'd have to be at least 12 and show a lot of maturity before I'd let them play).

You have a Total Recall Avatar man, we need to defend the gore!

ha, well I'm just playing devils advocate, And pointing out the obvious observations as to how that gif could affect people, espcially how its out of context. We should also be senstive, aware and media literate towards games even if these images dont personally affect you.

Im likely picking up the game regardless.

People saying first person makes no difference than third person are as misguided as people claiming that video game violence is equivalent to real life violence. This is how that headshot scene would play out for me in different presentations:

  • Third person: Cartoon violence. Not give it a second thought.
  • First person: Violence with a kick. Wow that was immersive. Made me stop and think.
  • Real life violence: Maybe would watch after hovering over the link for a long while daring myself to click it. Most likely would leave it alone and try hard to think of something else.
The quality of violence matters a great deal which is why a cartoon of Tom and Jerry isn't one of the most violent videos around.

I agree with you. Should be amazing to play through for the first time in first person.

Did the person streaming ever switch characters? I'm curious how long it takes compared to the last gen versions.
Nope it was the start so he only had access to Franklin. CVG said though when they demoed the game they didn't notice much difference. Maybe slight improvement. There are Youtube videos that show people putting different HDDs with their PS3 that speed up the process, and since the PS4 HDD speed is apparently also underwhelming, I know some GTAV folks hooking up different HDDs in prep for GTAV because of what CVG said -- limited by the PS3 and PS4 HDD speeds (they said both were basically "laptop HDs" and they'd be using better ones).
Could you not shoot people in the game before? Why does first person mode make it different?
It's also the blood... it's more violent now.

Usually blood in GTA isn't that excessive and actually the colour is usually not so... gory. It's so dark and detailed now. I tested this tonight on the PS3 (and I've done this probably 250 times with Trevor) and it's almost cartoon-ish. It's light a bit of red paint splatter. It doesn't feel realistic.

The new blood though looks much more violent. I mean, it's not quite Soldier of Fortune 2 but it's noticeably more gory. I mean, the response speaks for itself. I've robbed gas stations maybe close to 300-350 times between Trevor and GTAO (and I almost always execute the cashier unless I'm F or M), and even I was taken aback a bit when I saw it. I'm not bothered by it. I'm a big fan of Soldier of Fortune 2... But it definitely will trigger a stronger response than the previous tame blood, as evident by not only gaf but other forums that saw the stream -- almost everywhere reacted the same way.
