Yeaaah, guess I'm going to set the refresh rate down to 30fps in the configurations and try to stomach it. I'm on chapter 6, just tested getting shot at with a Scout and the difference is indeed considerable.

I like the smoothness of 60fps as much as everyone else, but not if it negatively affects gameplay to this extent.

Fuck Chapter 14. I cheated and I don't even care.
Restarted it and positioned my tanks exactly where they needed to be. :p I really don't care for eternally respawning anything.
Is that really cheating, though? I don't think anybody can do this mission blind.

It's manageable. Most of us played it 60fps, without any big problems.

I'm unsurprised about the firing rate. I thought it seemed a bit faster than I remembered but given I already beat this on ps3 I'll sick with it at 60, will make it a bit more interesting. It's a number that this happens so often in console development, particularly with Japanese games.

To be honest it hasn't been bothering me since I didn't even know about it, but I wouldn't want it to make missions artificially harder in a way the devs didn't intend it. I'll try both ways to see what "clicks", then maybe set it back to 60. I'm glad there's a toggle for it in the launcher config.

I caved in at 15b. Going from memory
Selvaria + Ruhm is nuts
. Maybe I could have done it at 60. Maybe it didn't make a significant difference there either. I'm not in a hurry to find out.

Wow, that was good. I tried and died so many times in the PS3 version. I think now I have a much better grasp of how the gamw works and so not only survived in the first try, but also got rank A!

Played the first 3 chapters, can see myself playing this for quite a while I love the systems, and the gameplay in general, feels great, also a good thing that I have a constant 60 without any stuttering.

Okie, my high res character texture mod is uploaded now. Download link: http://www.mediafire.com/download/ii8hthg9hrgpc24/HighResCharacterTextures.rar

And more ingame examples of mod:

Difference isn't exactly mind blowing, but it does look better. I'm thinking it'll mostly benefit those playing at higher resoutions. It impacts all characters by the way, from any faction and even the generic units.

I know I might sound crazy, but I can't help but feel that once we get texture replacements in full swing I want to put MLG emblems on the Snipers and replace the scope overlay with an image of a hip-aimed Intervention.

The scope overlay is a texture, right?

It's not cheating, it's strategy. Cheating is looking up how to beat a mission before you even attempt it once.

Am I missing something, or do the RPG elements (like statistical progression and stuff) not come into play later on in the game? I just finished Chapter 2, and I am just a little surprised at how barebones the game has been so far, but I'm assuming that the game gets a lot deeper in terms of character progression once the tutorial parts finish?

Yeah, you're just still quite early on.

You're going to learn most basics until chapter 04, but it's not like that the RPG aspect would be big in this game. You level up the classes as whole and aside from a few special weapons, you most likely equip everyone of a class with the same weapons. Regular weapons and armor are researched and strengthen in the R&D and like level up benefit everyone. Characters have potentials that influence their behaviour on the battlefield, these unlock with the level up of the class. The focus of the game is really on strategy, not on RPG progression.

poor mouse controls really gets on my bad side, not being able to use it in menus even more so. Other than that, a game looks nice.

Hi Sectus, thanks for the mod but one quick question.

My VC folder structure goes data>mx whereas the mod archive goes data>resource>mx. So can I just overwrite my mx folder with the modded one?

Those two mx folders should exist, the game uses both. Mod goes into data\resource\mx folder structure, you should have that as well as the data\mx one.

Character progression is not a big part of this game.

Kind of. Most progression is guided and mostly limited to "what weapon I want choose" but that there is stats in play and stuff to be aware of, it is, specially by awekening potentials.

So there are 60hz bugs on top of the 120hz bugs. Darn it.

Then again, now we can show off that we played the game on super secret hard mode.

I thought interception fire seemed a little stronger than I remembered, but I just chalked it up to not having played the original in a while.

But this applies to bother parties interception fire. It's more of a balance change than anything. Your own interception fire shreds enemies too.

Im really getting into the game but it seems like a major flaw that the best way to win a mission is just to rush to the camps no matter how many enemies are still alive

Also, if I dont take the max units I can, will I still get as many action points to use? Im finding a few units always lag behind and barely contribute

Only the commanders (Alicia, Largo, Rosie) affect the number of CP you have. Beyond those three it doesn't matter how many or how few units you deploy, your CP will remain unchanged.

I had a similar experience - didn't remember the details about the mission, but I recalled it was a struggle. It turned out to be fine. My fuck-ups didn't result in any permadeaths - I was okay even though I completely missed taking advantage of one of the radiator turns, and then the next time one came, I had Wavy fail so hard with the grenade that he actually blew himself up.

I guess after struggling through the mission the first time, people realize
that if the turrets are gone, Batomys is your footsoldiers' best bud and needs to be used to hide from Selvaria when in her intercept range. Being accustomed to retreating and redeploying units makes life much easier too.

Ted really amuses me. Dude fancies guys and girls, and likes being seen by enemies. His potentials were popping like 3-4 times every turn when I was doing the Woods skirmish for some exp, running him and Cherry along with Alicia to take the first two camps and then the animal trail. Cherry is funny too. "I'm SOOOO gonna shoot you!" Once I have Audrey, I think my dream team will be complete.

it's kind of difficult to clear a camp with scouts when three shocktroopers behind cover are hiding inside, respawning every turn. I prefer to drive my tank up to a camp and clear it with the mortar though obviously it takes you longer to get there

Grenades have the same effect though...

Asking as a super casual scrub, how difficult is the game? I'm pretty new to SRPGs, FE:Awakening being the first one I could really get into. I've heard nothing but great things from fans of the genre, and I really want to give it a shot, but I don't want to get slaughtered fro being bad at the game.

It's fairly difficult, with some missions likely to give newcomers a good amount of trouble.

Unfortunately most camps don't have 3 shocktroopers in them, at least the ones with the objective point in them.

Any recommendations for someone new to the genre then? Sorry if I'm getting really offtopic here. Or would it be worth it just trying to muscle through Valkyria?

I hope the framerate bugs get patched.

It's hard, but not stupidly so. You should be fine. Just be prepared to die a few times.

I convinced a friend to play it and he is making good progress, although he has died a few more times than me. He has also never played any other SRPGs outside of FEA.

XCOM is a good choice, also has a very forgiving difficulty setting.

yeah but the mortar is an instant kill most of the time whereas I use grenades to get them out of cover so I can headshot them with my sniper

If your goal is -just- to take the base, it's sufficient to just knock them out of its boundaries, run inside, take the base, and (if taking the base didn't end the mission) retreat before you can get killed by defensive fire. (Though I guess this is a lot harder the way the PC port is right now.)

Okay I know I already whined about this but
why is Alicia so damn suicidal because of her powers? She started wrecking the Marmota by barely exerting herself, so it's not like she had to straight up commit suicide, just, you know, use her powers rationally.

They're lucky that proposal scene was so damn adorable, because I swear to God this is giving me an aneurysm.

So if defending fire is twice as fast as intended at 60fps, is it four times as fast at 120fps?

To be honest, I am kinda happy since this would change game mechanics, I guess I better start playing it through before they patch it!

Wouldn't the scout rush be harder with this bug, too???

You underestimate the Marmota's threat. She wasted her Valkyrur Lance just punching a hole into the Marmota, which is her strongest weapon outside of the Blue Flame, and even then it did not slow down the Marmota one bit. Once a Valkyrur loses her lance, she's just a regular human being that can regenerate quickly, and there was nothing left to stop it from ramming into the capital and stealing the Grand Valkyrur Lance that was capable of obliterating forests. The Team 7 was only capable of bringing it down thanks to Faldio weakening the Grand Lance's engines to stop it from firing correctly. Otherwise, Max pretty much had the war won the instant he had it in his disposal.
