Far Cry 4 PC performance thread

The only way I can stop the hitching is by putting textures on low. Frames still dip but instead of a dip to the 40s or lower it stays in the 50s. Way less of a issue. Using a 7970.

Anybody else having issues with the mouse getting stuck on the main monitors (in a dual monitor setup) after alt-tabbing while playing in Borderless mode?

It's really annoying.

How in the world did these mouse controls get through QA? Even with the XML fixes it still feels like garbage, basically unplayable for me until (if) they patch it. Looks and runs pretty well on my 970 based on the parts I did play though :(

Why is it not unlocked, I'm in Oregon. In what part of the world is it not Nov. 18th

Had that problem as well. For some reason, I had to click Redeem Code and re-enter the 25 digit code from the Ubisoft store. Awful software.

Omission of HRAA on PC is puzzling and disappointing. I was really really looking forward to seeing how it ended up working out.

And unless anyone captures near lossless PS4 footage without horribly recompressing it and then uploading it to youtube *Cough* EG *Cough*. I'll never know. Darn

So this seems to be a 30fps experience for me, vsync seems off as if it won't hit 60 it stays at 30. Oh well I'm just glad my 670 is doing an great job.

Im nitpicking for more fps right now so ive turned off Tree Relief and Fur. You don't even recognize these things unless you're up close.

Has anyone been able to dissect what PostFx actually does. The Geforce guide didnt even go into detail about it, they probably don't know what it does themselves. The had the same damn thing in FC3.

If there isnt much of a visual downgrade with a decent boost im game.

Yeah, this is great. I remember Fable 3 gave your character an eyepatch and Batman Arkham Asylum devs made it so your cape wouldn't work and you would just fall straight down instead of gliding.

The results are always hilarious. Can't believe the nerve of assholes who steal games and then go online to complain about them.

I think Crysis/Crysis Warhead anti piracy made the guns shoot chickens instead of bullets.
ArmA II transforms the player into a crow.

More devs should do things like these.

Anyone else having the game just spawn an empty window and then hang?

Purchased thru Steam, patched up with latest NV drivers for my 980. Other games are fine. I launch Far Cry 4 and it opens what looks to be a 1080p sized window with a spinning cursor, but it never proceeds from there.

Edit: I've tried SLI on/off. I'm wondering if it doesn't like my LG 34UM95 (21:9), but I can't get far enough to tweak settings.

It's a known issue which is affecting a lot of people where the game hangs on startup due to USB HID devices. For a lot of people it's solved by removing USB devices (especially gaming ones like joysticks or gamepads). It's ridiculous and needs to be patched immediately as for me it doesn't work unless I unplug the gaming device that I was planning on playing the game with.

I have that problem too. Still not unlocked. Don't we just love uplay!

I submitted a ticket and got a response that they are aware of some issues with the game not unlocking for people and are working on it.

Total Biscuit just posted a Port Report on Far Cry 4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M25Le3JdHH8&list=UUy1Ms_5qBTawC-k7PVjHXKQ

note that this is not the WTF Is... for it, he'll be doing that later

and through that, I'm again disappointed that Ubi still left in mouse acceleration, doesn't fix the game randomly changing to borderless, windowed and fullscreen settings and half-assed FOV again by not changing the viewmodel's fov
Those framerate drops... I wouldn't be able to stand them.

Weird. Anyone having a sound issue?

Just booted up the game and kept hearing static clicks, and the voices weren't synced properly. Then after the first cutscene, I lost all sound completely.

Tried other games, works fine. Huh.

I just finished installing it, and it crashes immediately upon pressing "play" on Uplay.

I verified the files several times, and it just crashes. I've seen reports on the forums, but how widespread is this issue here on GAF? Btw, I searched the thread for "crash", but nothing came up.

i5-3570K - 680 2GB SLI - Windows 7.

Plays perfectly on Ultra with OC'ed 780 here but...dem crushed blacks. Was on 344.60 and upgraded to 65 and same issue. Makes the game look absurd and hard to play in some parts. Going to wait for a fix I guess. Sucks.

Er. Great. Now I can't figure out how to get the game running again.

I press Play on Steam. It launches Uplay. I click play. It relaunches Steam. It tells me it's already running (it's not.)

God damn this.

Damn, these new drivers are something.

I wonder why the i7 5960X out performs the other CPUs with its stock 3Ghz clock speed but the other i7s (even with their slight clock advantage and additional threads) are out performed slightly by their corresponding i5s. The extra cache? Utilizes the cores but not hyperthreading?
It could partially be the influence of DDR4.

Getting weird AO ghosting with SLI and crushed blacks

Edit, looks like this is a known problem, gonna revert back to the previous drivers

Has anyone had any issues starting up FarCry 4 for the first time on Uplay? I had preloaded the game and it asks me to reedem a code and when I enter the code it says this code has already been used. Is this only happening to NVIDIA choose your path customers? Any work arounds?

Yup same problem. Ubisoft is "Working on it"

With the new driver, what settings should I be looking at to tweak it to run at high settings 60 FPS with a GTX 760?

When I was still on a GTX 570, I'd usually start everything at Max/Ultimate settings, turn fraps on (so I can see my FPS count), and then slowly adjust the settings down based off what I know I care more/less about.

AA doesn't have to be at max settings to look good, nor does shadows. And things like vegetation and water can be safely lowered down to high. There is no harm in going this route to adjust as needed based off your own preference.

On my GTX 970, I just turned on nVidia mode and it looks good and runs good (had to turn on v-sync though to keep the game smooth).

Dunno whether this will work for anyone else but I had stuttering earlier where the game ran in high 50fps and would lock into 30fps and stutter and then go back to normal then go down again causing all sorts of problems.

Turned vsync off in game, forced it in nvidia control panel

In game, it would still stutter. Went to settings and set the game to Borderless from Fullscreen, save that. Play that for a few seconds, then go back in and switch back to fullscreen.

Stutter gone and holding over 50fps on average.

This game is unplayable with an SLI configuration using the old or the new driver, the eye adaptation values are completely fucked so the second you step into an area that has a shadow cast on it your screen goes black. And bringing up any 2d element map/Esc screen causes ghosting issues that require a resolution change to fix.

This is some shameful shit.

I had this happen to me, I had to go into device manager and disable the joystick on my G13. I've seen reports that having certain input devices installed or plugged in can cause the game to crash. I'd try unplugging any extra USB devices you don't need to play the game, and also disable any overlay/monitoring software such as fraps, hwmonitor, speedfan, gpu-z, etc to see if that fixes the problem.

Alright, I need to go through this thread to see if anyone else is having the same weird fortuitous issues I'm having. Basically, the game is running better for me at ultra than it is at medium-high settings.

So the game defaulted to the high settings, which in many cases is actually the medium setting. For good measure, I even turned some stuff down. Once I got to the part where you finally have free control and have to learn stealth kills, I was getting slightly choppy performance, especially as I stared at different spots, so I kept fiddling with options to try to get it to where I wanted it. Finally, after getting frustrated and seeing no increases in frames, I just set it to the ultra preset to see how it looked and ran, went back to the game, and it was not only running better, but it was running consistent. Moving around the environment and changing my view didn't lower the FPS noticeably.

Keep in mind, I'm still VERY early on (right after that part), so this is all like to change. Not to mention, I noticed on the default high settings that when I got to the basement hallway at the very start after the dinner scene, I saw a HUGE drop in frames for some odd reason. Figured it had to do with lighting and shadows, so we'll see.

But man I hope it stays this way. What a weird optimization issue.

Specs, btw, are 8 gigs of RAM, a GTX 670, and an i5 at 3.4ghz.

Has anyone been able to dissect what PostFx actually does.

It probably does different things.

One thing it does is the resolution of effects like explosions or smoke or mist. If you set it to low you see everything is HUGELY PIXELATED around the effects.

Lowering it to "high" is good, but lower than that is gonna look ugly.

Shouldn't DSR be the recommended AA for such high-end systems? Looks waaay better than TXAA.
DSR + TXAA to get best of both worlds.

TXAA is important to get rid of temporal artifacts and it has better sample positions.
It's also done before DSR resolve, so the blur will most likely be as small as final pixel or smaller, so DSR smoothness value will give the control back to player.

I simply can't get a stable framerate on this game... It's really annoying.

I tried to do the "Game Optimize" thing from the GeForce Experience and it capped my fps to 30...gg Nvidia.

HUGE threading issues, one core is maxxed regardless of cpu type:

Is that what might cause the micro-stuttering in-game? Because it feels like it's unplayable right now. I'm seriously feel like throwing up when playing because everything feels so "off", from the micro-stuttering to the mouse movement.

I also get that AO ghosting some people mentioned - but on a single 970. Annoying and disorienting... but apart from that I haven't gotten crushed blacks on the .75 driver (played about an hour with them yesterday).

Do we have an impact-hierachy yet? I wanna get those stable 60 and my rig should be able to pull them off with some settings lowered but I'd like to max out the IQ at the same time obviously. I guess soft shadows are the worst offender.

Mouse controls are indeed horrible. I spent probably an hour getting it playable. I did all the other recommended fixes, but also set sensitivity to 1.0 and use my mouse's dpi setting to control sensitivity. That got rid of the most jarring acceleration, but the game was still hitching around when I moved the mouse if I played at settings that gave me 50-60 fps, so I ended up cranking down settings until I could hit 70-80 fps which mitigated a lot of issues. The frame times in this game feels so incredibly inconsistent. I would have no trouble playing any other game at 50+, but one doesn't feel truly smooth unless you have 80+.

Check out the Nvidia tweak guide, it shows you what kind of an impact each setting has on the framerate.

Curiously enough, soft shadows have a smaller negative impact than ultra or even very high shadows have.

Frame rate is great on GTX 970 SLI.

Crushed blacks and stuttering ruins it completely though. Hoping for a fix.

Anyone else having massive image blur in cutscenes and MP since the 344.75 drivers ?

If I chose the "NVIDIA" preset I don't have this image blur, but I don't want to have the motion blur and TXAA, so if I change any setting I get a blured image in cutscenes and MP.

Running the latest UPlay game update (1.0.3) on two 970 in SLI.

no issues like this on the latest update for me on a 970.one major difference in my game is that those mountains were blurry from perspective (where as clear in yours)... it's like your camera is focused in on the mountains and blurring out the guy in front of you. so weird.

No matter what, I get shadows that are almost black and water + windscreens with a green tint.

When I disable SLI, it goes away.

I've tried the latest drivers, I've tried rolling back and modifying the SLI bits in inspector, but no matter what I still have those issues.

Can anyone shed any light?

GTX980s in SLI @ 1440p. The frame rate is amazing with SLI enabled, not so much when it isn't, so I sort of need it.

Thanks
