Far Cry 4 PC performance thread

I'll repeat. Gpumaxbufferedframes=1 in xml, nvidia control panel prerendered frames to 1. No monitoring software, ingame vsync = completely smooth 60fps on 780ti i5 2500k @4.5.

Anyone care to try these settings.

A huge improvement for me, stuttering is there, but at a heavily reduced frequency. I have had to reduce the max Pre-Rendered frames in multiple titles in the last year or so. It's getting annoying.

I've worked almost 2 years at ubisoft and I know how things work, if they wanted to ship the patch in the weekend they could have done it, happened in the past.

Watch_Dogs, AC4

Not this time I guess, what's more serious and infuriating is the fact that people paid for a product that is partially working or is not working at all and they have the guts to announce a patch this Friday and then quickly saying : "unforeseen consequences"

Unforeseen consequences ?

Hey, if a hot date comes up at the last second that is kinda unforeseen ;). On the other side of the medal Ubisoft threats their employees like sweat shop workers. Not sure if things have changes but buddies that used to work there only had horror stories!

I7 3770 4.2ghz
GTX 970 1500/8000mhz
8gb 2133 cas10

I get 55-60fps with nvidia preset but txaa 2x. But I get huge drops to 40-45 when driving or moving through the world.

Tried your fix, overall game is smoother but it now runs at like 45-50fps.

Core 2 also pegged 100%
Rest of the cores around 20-60%

Games (finally) have largely moved to using quadcores (though it still doesn't scale properly in all cases when you move to 6-core) so a dual core isn't quite enough anymore.

But to actually not allow you to boot with dual core. Unity is so much more demanding but it allows to boot on a G3258.

This worked perfectly for me, thank you. It was still stuttering a little so I changed prerendered frames to 2 instead and turned on triple buffering in-game. Runs very, very well now. I still get the split second stutter when loading a new area but I don't want to do the medium textures thing to alleviate it haha, not a big deal.

So, ive had the blackscreen error this week on my main rig. Cant get to the main menu. No solution has helped.

Tried installing on my HTPC (8320, 670). I got to the main menu. However, when I start a new game. It crashes, similar to the other error I was receiving on my gaming rig.

This game is depressing me...

Setting the SLI bits to Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon seemed to fix at least the black crush and it seems to run decently when combined with that GPU max rendered frames 1 tweak.

EDIT: I take that back. It seems that the game was just ignoring the SLI bits on the first go and on the second time I just got flickering environment. Turns out that the first time it was just running with a single GTX 770, which surprisingly gives a playable framerate at 2560x1440. So I've been playing the game with just one GPU for a few hours without any significant issues other than some occasional hitching (especially when driving).

I figure this is a good spot to ask this, Steam version just launches Uplay right? If I can snag a cheaper uplay key it's not like paying extra on Steam will avoid Uplay?

I'm guessing this is the case but I haven't bought an Ubisoft game since Blood Dragon.

Ouch. PCSS really knocks my framerate down when there is a lot of shadow casters on screen. Drops from 60 to 40, still perfectly playable for me but I'm tempted to set shadows to ultra/very high instead.
Ideally I'd like to keep my FPS at 60 but it's not possible 100% of the time.

Impressed by how good the game looks but pop-in is still present, even with geometry and environment to ultra.

The game won't even start for me just crashes when I hit play.

Windows 7 64 bit
i7 5820k @ 4.2Ghz
GTX 970

I unpluged my 360 controller, verified files, closed afterburner. Still won't start. Any fix for this shit? Haven't had this problem with a PC game in years.

Well, welcome to Goobysoft 2014.

Fixing that might be a pain in the ass, start by installing every c++ redistributable from 2008 to 2013 and directx

Mine was doing that last night and RTSS was the culprit. Check if you have a separate process of it running that is staying on even after you close Afterburner

can't hold 60.
is there a way to force it to 45 or 30 instead of dropping from 60 to 40?

I don't think so, framerate inexorably drops in places. I don't mind fluctuating FPS (as long as it's high enough) so this is a non issue for me, it never drops below 30fps fortunately. I can't stand below 30fps (too many console multiplats I've played dropped below that regularly) but anything between 40 and 60 is completely fine by me.

Would like to try this. Is there a setting for prerendered frames on AMD cards?

It's almost like the engine wasn't optimized to run at 60+ fps. From reading the thread it seems like capping at 30 solves several issues. That is a real shame. I've had better luck than some at 60, but it's still far from ideal.

how do you do that?

Tried out some settings like capping @ 30fps and Gpumaxbufferedframes=1 and it helped me fix most of the stuttering. Still happens sometimes but it is much less annoying.

This game is SO choppy. I was getting sick in the first few minutes... applied all the fixes, lowered quality to MEDIUM and it did mitigate some of the choppiness, but it's enough to make me feel ill.

A word of warning for those looking at performance figures in various benchmarks : "ultra" settings don't include the Nvidia enhancements. PCSS , TXAA , HBAO+ , Hairworks and Enhanced God Rays make FC4 one of the most demanding game on the market.

60fps + Hairworks is not going to be possible on my system, so I will look into that when I upgrade. In the meantime the game runs mighty fine (40-60fps) with PCSS/HBAO+/Nvidia god rays (everything else on ultra) on my PC (4770K @ 4ghz, GTX 780 OC).

Hardocp's FC4 review :

HBAO+ is more demanding in FC4 than what I remember in other games.

I don't mind it dipping into the 45ish range, AC Unity does the same, but AC Unity doesn't hitch the way FC4 does. It's the hitching that is annoying. Can't make it go away on pretty much all the tweaks I've tried.

Same here. I feel like I wasted my money and could've gotten dragon age instead.

So I keep crashing every time I do this Shangri-La place (the one where you get the bow). Anyone else have the same thing? I crash after doing the first area about four seconds after I load into the next zone.

Ughh I take it back according to my FPS monitoring I'm getting well above 60fps, but the stuttering is just making me sick. I changed Pre render values, and it helped alot, but it's still very noticeable. What the hell is going on... Is it because I'm SLI'd?

The funny part is I was streaming in 720/60fps, and I watched the local recording and it's smooth as butter. It's as if it's only apparent on my screen.

Limit to 60 and use the Blood Dragon SLI bits. That's giving me the best SLI experience at the moment.

Anyone else prefer using SBCC over HBAO+? It's less performance intensive and also looks better, imo.

I actually use it and think them same, but I'm not sure if it's an AO form that's mean for Nvidia. Like HBAO+ is Nvidia's tech right? but SBCC I've not heard of before.

Edit: Didn't see you post this until I had already looked around, works great.

Using 0x02402C05 (Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon DLC, Far Cry 3) as my SLI compatibility bits in Nvidia Inspector's Far Cry 4 (Leave the SLI compatability bits DX1x as is) profile made my stuttering issue pretty much go away. Only an occasional hiccup which is fine with me.

Alright, I'm not sure if I'm insane, but is this game dark? I can't tell if I'm getting crush or if I need to turn up my gamma.

In addition to that when I go outside during the day there's this sunny haze over everything that's driving me mental. Is that supposed to be in game?

Just walking forward no haze.

Lastly, WTF is up with the TXAA bug that when I activate it the game turns blurry?

OY! This game.

I've got the same issues. Turned my gamma up for the first one. Turned off God Rays for the second one. And not using any AA unfortunately cause of either the performance or the vaseline filter.

So I'm barely getting 25fps in this game.

Changing the resolution and putting the settings to low or ultra doesn't seem to make any difference.

I'm on a AMD X6 II1055T cpu with a R9 280x gpu, 8gb RAM.

I've been having issues in a lot of different games too, regarding fps, even cs:go, but this one really takes the cake. Anyone have an idea what could go wrong?

Is it just me or is TXAA in both this and Unity not as good as it was in earlier titles? I mean I know it's MO is making thing a little blurry but for some reason in this game and Unity it doesn't seem to be applied evenly/correctly and is a way bigger performance hit then I'm used to as well.

On the flip side, the SMAA works wonders.

Well this just got stranger. I go to fool around with the settings and just tried NVIDIA preset, which does TXAA 4x and everything maxed. The vaseline filter disappears, but if you go adjust it down or at all it's applied to the camera and cut scenes.

Have you dusted out your machine recently? When I had a 1055T I had to keep on top of cleaning the CPU heatsink or else it would throttle down. Obviously one should do this with every machine but the 1055T was temperamental.

TXAA has always been bad in my opinion. I've never liked the IQ in any game that has it available, and the performance hit is just not worth it.
