Best announcement from the conference.

I was thinking about selling my Ps3 but now there is no way I'm doing that before playing this.

(Still, kind of sad that the only really surprising announcement of the "playstation experience" one year into the Ps4 gen was a Ps3 game)

NOW EVERYONE BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!
If this sells there is still hope for Ishin

Why dont they follow though with Yakuza Zero?

Babysteps.

I think this is indicative of future releases, though. Maybe it's taking them some time to translate the buttload of text, but I see a Zero release in the future.

THE FUTURE IS LOOKING BRIGHT AND HOPEFUL

okay, few things:
1) namco & others didn't basically take a bath on 5 chapters of a niche series & release a statement after a particularly unprofitable quarter saying they're doubling-down on big IP's, and anything else, especially niche, would see digital if at all. none of that is directly analogous.

It's in collaboration with Sony. Sony could have made it happen, just like Nintendo made Bayonetta 2 as a physical release happen. Nintendo even ported over Bayonetta 1 and ALSO made a limited edition for that game. Drakengard 3 is even more niche than Yakuza and additionally rated really badly on metacritic (61), just like NieR (68) and both of them sold like shit. Yakuza 4 however is 78. Sony just doesn't give enough shit about it (or actually don't want used copies to be around, who knows).

I was able to understand why Drakengard 3 didn't get a physical release in Europe, but at least it got an english-friendly physical release somewhere, which I bought without second thought.

2) im with you on the love for BC, but sadly few consumers do so its not a priority. im with you but it is what it is, and you're letting an amazing series sink for a very odd reason.

Like I said - I guess I will import it at some point from Japan and use a fan translation to play it. I simply won't buy digital releases, especially not on platforms, where I'm unable to fully migrate to a new generation. All of that is Sony's fault and not mine.

finally :D

This was the 'Game long requested finally coming true' thing.

And it absolutely delivered (seriously!). Like I said, I honestly thought that we no longer had a chance of getting Yakuza games in the west. Seeing that logo on screen was eyepopping.

I'll buy it but this should've been done a year ago and no ps4 port will limit the already low ceiling of sales this will achieve

I hope nobody uses the digital only as a reason not to buy this. This is our last chance to prove to Sega this franchise can succeed outside of Japan. If this flops and I never see another game from the series I'll literally never get over it.

How many times can a series come back from the dead? Good God. We're so lucky to get a SIXTH game in this series over here, despite the tepid reception. Unreal.

I've gotten interested in this franchise in the last couple years, I've bought the first game and plan to buy the rest and then play them all.

Well people weren't willing to play the game where every damn line was translated for them in a FAQ or on youtube so not surprising people won't buy digital only. If there was a physical release they'd buy it used or "no 90% off sale/ Ps+ freebie no sale". So yeah, if you like the series, learn Japanese.

The other fans don't have your back.

That's a ridiculous comparison. It's perfectly understandable people don't want to be turning their heads to a guide every 5 seconds to understand a game. It kills the experience.

I read the title and had tears of joy. Then I found out it's digital only and have other tears. I can only get dialup here at home, how the hell am I going to download this thing? PS3 Proxy stopped working like a year ago (which is how I got the few digital titles I do have).

I'm happy it'll be there. I just hope I can work out a way to join in.

I just imported it recently too. I'm absolutely double dipping. I really hope this one sells enough to convince them it's worth bringing over Zero.

The best announcement of the entire weekend is the localization of a game selling < 50k copies in the west. It's one of those "..." situations.

People used the no hostesses in 3 to not buy it. Some Yakuza "fans" can be petty. :(

If these sell well we might see the PS4 Yakuza getting localized. Its time to put the money where your mouth is.

Those other fans are who tediously made those translation guides and youtube videos that I've used and I'm thankful for them.

Yeah Irish, you can have and make the OT for this, you got my support

I'll probably handle the Zero OT.

aww mannn that one might be the best yet haha

i mean...i hear you, but sony's just not paying for this. thing is, you aren't penalizing them so much as sega/the series proper, man. it is what it is but when we don't see the other chapters, you're actively deciding to be part of the problem.

There's nothing else to add.

I'm happy to be a PlayStation owner.

To be honest, I don't care if they skip Ishin. And given how shaky the series is in the west, I wouldn't even mind if they did skip it. Yakuza Zero is the next important game in the series. We need the mainline entries far more than the spinoffs.

I only want the spinoffs if we're definitely getting the next mainline entry.

This game is pretty much guaranteed to do even worse in the west than all the games that came before. You better hope that Sega is not going to decide on the fate of this series outside of Japan based on the performance of a digital-only niche PS3 game released in 2015.

Boycotting Yakuza 3 was perfectly justified. Segac gave no indication there was going to be significantly cut content. And fwiw it wasn't just hostesses it was alot of Missions and other stuff. Segac said nothing. People only found out after they'd already bought the game which is total crap!

So I've been interested in the series for a while, where does 5 stack up to the others?

It's a bit more ridiculous and the Another Drama stuff you can do makes the pacing really strange, and there's a segment in the middle where it's all rhythm mini-games, but I love it for the ridiculous moments and the insane amount of varied side content (be a J-pop star! Do handshaking mini-games! Hunt and fight bears! Learn moves from mountain gods! Snowball fight! Make noodles). 2 and 4 are still my favorites, but this isn't far behind.

I recently finished yakuza 3 and 4 and started 5 with a translation guide. Didn't hurt my experience aside from videos bing hosted on daily motion

As someone who has been playing since the first one this series I'm amazed and grateful for every additional one we get. They've never sold well.

For those still estranged by this game being digital
Go play Yakuza 3 on PS3.
Still got a PS3? Go get it, it's a great entry to the game. Judge it yourself, if you liked it, if it gave you FEELS, if it made you realize the badassness and manliness of Kiryu, then maybe just MAYBE you'll open up to this game being digital only.
Screw your rules and standards; a good game is worth it if it offers such an accessible method.

I peed my pants and yet Im so happy ;_; thx sony, sega, or whoever is responsible...

a shame is only digital though

People not buying this because it's digital are fans of discs and not games, it makes no sense, I may understand if it was because of the lack of an account system, but the point is to play the game.

And I'm sure Sony/SEGA know that they are not going to rake in money, the important thing is to find a way to profit over this release and if they found it we may get more Yakuzas in the future.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
They should have just localized a digital only version of Yakuza Ishin Zero for ps4...you didnt even have to make a dub, just put in the text

if only PSN had gifting, I'd buy multiple copies for friends, as I did with 3 & 4

oh and, since they're already translated, I hope they release Yakuza HD at some point, I'll buy that too

Let me give you my money :(

I really hope they're going to keep releasing the series in the west but I'll be savoring this like it would be the last.
