Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo [Up: Sony - Was running at 30 fps]

i was gonna go blackout on this game because they showed too much of uncharted 3 and they said that impacted the game and the surprises.

but that was a really long demo. at least they only spoiled one location.

the location is quite big, though. and it seems as if it'll take more than a couple of levels to get through it.

so will we be stuck in an island or will we go on a globe-trotting adventure? just because the level and everything they showed looked too big a scale for "just one location".

You can't name a single fact about this game. Humor me, tell me one of the technical differences between the teaser and new trailer. A graphics artist would spot the differences immediately, they have trained eyes. You've not stated anything to suggest you have any expertise on the matter. I'm not sure you should be telling people to face facts you don't possess. I've really grown tired of the instant overreactions. PEACE.

Exactly.

The people who make me laugh, for example, are the ones that claim that "Drake's beard is now a texture in his face".

First of all, the Drake in the demo is probably from an earlier point in the game, when he still doesn't have the stubble he has on the E3 trailer.

Second. This guy's stubble looks pretty much the same as the one Drake has on the E3 trailer, so that means that "beards" were not "downgraded".

Some of you people are so damn clueless. It's idiotic to compare E3 cutscene model to the gameplay model in the current video. There's no downgrade if you look at the cutscene.

minus hair, shirt geometry, and the nice water interactions (dripping and what not), this looks very much like the teaser.

Are you for real? The reveal trailer was NOT CGI.

I never said it was CGI, I said it was in-engine footage. And it's what the system is capable of, but not necessarily what they can pull off with gameplay. And today we've seen it. I still think it looks more than solid, but those expecting the in-engine visuals as actual gameplay footage, they deserve to be let down.

Today we've seen what, exactly? The character model looks as good as the E3 model, so I don't know what you mean.

When its done i agree but right now it doesn't look that great. I dont see how people are crazy for saying that.

Yeah, um, no.

It does look great, I'll reserve the word spectacular for when it's finished. Just finished watching the Gamersyde vid and it impressed me. Looks like everything is going well and it will polish up real well with another year under its belt.

Also, why do South African accents make for great bad guys?

Wait, what? Are you saying this looks worse than the last tomb raider game?

No, I am just saying that right now, I think TR:DE looks better. Than what I am seeing here. It is really surprising considering that was cross gen and hit 60 fps and still is holding its own here.

I know ND can pull out a win with this one, but it does appear that there were some changes with char model since E3 (ears and low re textures? maybe?) I am not sure, something feels off.

Naughty Dog has never ONCE downgraded their visuals from their amazing e3 unveilings to the final product. The assumptions being made in this thread based on comparing different screenshots with different lighting and compression is laughable.

You people wanted gameplay from your unveiling and that's exactly what you got.

The combat areas look much much more open then TR by a long shot.

Yeah, a lot of Uncharted's combat arenas have been much bigger and open than TR's since UC2, with a lot more climbing and platforming integrated with the combat (should you choose to use it). The one shown in UC4 seems like a logical step forward, creating a much more dynamic space to move and jump around in to make use of his new tools.

what? it didn't look any different.

not only are you comparing different shots with different lighting, one even has a wet drake.

i honestly don't get this downgrade nonsense.

Hair is different because well it's a different hair style but you can see the technique is the same. You can see on his forehead that hair strands are individually rendered. Water...well..there no water in the scene but in general water wetness adds an nice extra sheen to things.

Can't really compare clothing since they are totally different and this one has more folds.

I know right? Works incredibly well haha

Good. 60 fps for a 3rd person action adventure was such a waste anyway. Much better to use the resources for better IQ/lighting/physics/AI. Lock it at 30 (or provide the option) and I'm happy. Glad they saw sense on this instead of trying to satisfy a extremely vocal tiny minority of Uncharted fans.

This is almost as ridiculous as saying you think you Mario 64 looks better. The difference is that huge.

Are all the detractors just basing their opinions off low-res streams of this or what?

Game looks incredible and fun. I'm digging the more open fighting and options. The rope stuff looks great, as does the impromptu stealth in the foliage. Love it all.

Wonder if that stake he picked up will be used throughout for a different climbing mechanic, kind of, or if it's just for that section.

It looks amazing but it brings my expectations down a notch. There was certainly some downgrade but it is still probably the best looking game I have ever seen. Though quantum break is closer than I thought.

Despite the remaining development time and ND being adept to improving their graphics and performance as the system life cycle goes on, I don't really expect it to look like the previous trailer.

That being said, it looks great.

Go and watch the gameplay on gamersyde. If you still think TR DE looks better, I don't know man, I would think you're trolling.. Aside from the 3x better animations and interactions, it's not even close. Even my girlfriend can see the difference..

The trolling in this thread dude, the trolling in this thread. 20 pages of ppl watching a compressed to death twitch stream and screaming "downgrade". So much concern trolling and so many ppl are so disappointed, because they expected at least photorealism and everything else is a disappointment. Yet they fail to name one better looking 3rd person game.

LoL, you've lost me bro, but whatever, it's your opinion.

Graphics weren't as mind-blowing as I was expecting going by the hype. Still looks good and it least it has the gameplay to backup the pretty graphics, unlike The Order.

I watched the gameplay demo again and their are all these small details that really bring the game to life.

e.g.

  • As Nathan gets thrown against the rock-face, the small waterfall splashes and bounces against him
  • When Nathan pulls the guy off the ledge and he grabs onto his leg, Nathan's kicks results in a visibly bloody nose.
  • The dust and debris from the rocks when bullets hit them

lol.....
You do realize they're still going for 60fps?

Yikes at the hair. There's definitely a downgrade there... And I say downgrade cuz the E3 reveal was supposed to be in-game footgae, right?? Everything else on today's video like the skin texture continues looking really good though

Ok

What don't you understand between an in engine realtime video and a realtime cutscene

I feel like there has been a downgrade, but you seriously take the cake with the bolded.

I am biased because I absolutely love the series, but I can't see how anyone can be disappointed by the visuals. I really like how the first proper look at the game was an unedited 15 min section of the game, ND are confident this will be good.

Also Watchdogs was an indisputable downgrade, calling UC4 a downgrade based off of a short trailer cutscene is a gross exaggeration.

This is what I assume what it's supposed to look like or at least a closer approximation had the gamma settings were okay.

Or this one:

As opposed to this:

why would you want that? the original looks vastly better. your edits look like HDR photography.

Looks as good as expected when watching through you tube.

Would need gamersyde vids and put on large TV to compare properly with TR DE.

Animations were nice and fluid.
