Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo [Up: Sony - Was running at 30 fps]

unrelated and pointless, but I thought it was kinda funny how Rocksteady's Batman and Uncharted seem to always come out the same years(2009, 2011, 2015). Not too dissimilar, accessible AAA action games with cinematic flourishes and superb production values.

Wait, so they've moved the target FPS down to 30?

Wasn't thoroughly impressed. Was expected to be blown away. I can't believe they tried to pass that E3 trailer off as a representation of how the game will look. I had always been skeptical about that, but I thought I would see something that look notably better than anything else on PS4. It's certainly looks good, and the cutscenes are stunning, as usual, but during gameplay, nothing** strikes me as a significant leap above what we've seen so far this gen, or even the previous gen for that matter.

** As a whole, I mean. One individual aspect that's pretty impressive is how dynamic the foliage is. Most games these days render nice foliage, but very few do it dynamically.

Skux, thank you! Can you export it in even better quality to match Gamersyde's bitrate?

I've corrected and reuploaded all my screenshots. Yeah, they need to re-release that video. The way it is now is misleading and not doing game enough justice.

Isnt this the EXACT same level of facial detail of the E3 reveal? Holy shit

Well'p, I'm disappointed. My own fault, I guess. Considering ND's propensity for eye candy, I had some pretty high expectations. Like, "No way is this possible!" Ah well...

The "corrected" shots still aren't the way things should be. A lot of blacks are getting crushed and losing detail. It still looks better than the gamersyde one but I think it's just the contrast effect of everything popping more.

Simply amazing. The characters, environment and all the details looks great. Gameplay seems to be way more smoother than previous installments. I need some Uncharted MP in my life.

Uncharted 4, MGS V, Witcher 3, Arkham Knight, Bloodborne... 2015 is going to be a great year for gamers. I am expecting this to be released around November next year though, so its a long wait.

"The little brother" seems like he is related to Sully in some way. (Or did they find the fountain of youth?)

My stream quality sucked, so I couldn't fully judge the graphics on that, but I was originally disappointed that the climbing animations seemed to similar to other Uncharted games.

Once the combat started, though, I think the game looked great, and I let a little cheer out during the initial grapple segment

Can kinda see the Last of Us influence on the combat/stealth, and that's a really good thing.

I do still hope they make the traversal stuff a little harder, and make the adventuring parts have more options or at least make the one route less obvious (have more areas where you need to look around for the grapple points or something).

Overall, my most anticipated retail game of 2015 (narrowly beating Metal Gear, and only because I got to play a small chunk of that already).

Everything looks fucking incredible. However, it has the opposite of BLACK Crush going on. The gamma is all sorts of fucked up.

Troy Baker character has kind of Sully looking hair.

Maybe he is Sullys kid.

Also I assume he is playing the character who had their VO changed when the actor bailed after Amy left?

They still have one fcking year left and it alreay looks that good??

I mean do you remember the first footages of the Order 1886 and Driveclub? Compare that to latter ones...Massive Upgrade.

Dont want know how Uncharted looks at the E3 2015. Holy Mother

That's because the frame rate was only 30fps. The E3 trailer was at a higher lod and running at 60fps on what we were told was running on a PS4. If the frame rate halves then you have twice as long to render a frame. The expectation is you should have close to twice the detail. Instead we actually have less detail at 30fps.

That is a huge downgrade.

That's a bigger shift in graphics than the difference between any XOne and PS4 multiplat title.

Business wise I can see the argument for dropping to 30 fps because we somehow lost half a playstation.

What's so friggin hard to understand about the fact that was a close up of drake in a super small environment against an ENTIRE JUNGLE with dynamic gameplay.

I've been saying that since the E3 guys... Don't you think there is a certain logic in having different level of details regarding the context ? The fact that people are still talking about downgrade over that fucking close up where you saw a fucking FLY near the nose of Drake.. That was microscopic shit! Why would you want them to have that level od detail in game, why ? That doesn't make any fucking sense!

Also guys uploading contrasted vids, you're making it way too much... Look at how i did it on my screens, there is a middle ground lol.

The only other thing I have issue with is they might be going for a slightly too realistic look. Uncharted 2 and 3 had very striking color palette's, this seems to be muted. Which could be deliberate, and looks more photorealistic- but it kinda lacks visual flair.

I can agree that it does look like other next gen games, but surely that's because of the physically based renderers that everyone is using this gen? Its kind of like last gen when everyone discovered secular maps at the same time and all of a sudden everything was wet and shiny in most games. This gen its GI and physically based rendering.

I still think it looks great considering its targeting 60fps and has nearly a year left for polish. If it was 30fps then I would expect it to look groundbreaking as they would have more room to push things at 30fps. It certainly doesn't look bad either, considering it gives other 30fps games a good run graphically. But if the game is only 30pfs, then yes, its not a big step up from everything else.

Perhaps it has a frame rate limiter like TLoU:RE that sharpens shadows or something at 30fps for people who want 30fps? Who knows, the games still too far out for final judgments.

On the last page I rerendered 5 minutes of the video with correct black levels. I'm rendering a higher quality one right now.

Insane For Sony
I can do a better one, I just wanted to get something out there quick.

Also can you please put your screenshots in quote tags :p
I just did.

Btw, your video looks great, but added compression is visible at times. I hope Gamersyde eventually does this correction.

Wouldn't that make Nate Sully's kid too then? unless they had different fathers or aren't blood brothers

Very good point many people need to take note of...

The fact that this game already looks better than most other console game released this generation, especially considering how much more development time is left, is phenomenal. ND and Sony really need to re-release that game play footage in better quality to more accurately reflect its glorious look.

Game play wise the core mechanics of the game seem to have evolved beautifully, taking the best parts of TLOU game play and blending them with what makes Uncharted so distinct. The new grapple elements and seemingly context sensitive melee combat systems seem great and the open level design is something I've always wanted in Uncharted. For those wanting to see something distinctly different from Uncharted 1-3 environments, keep in mind that ND and Sony most probably want to keep some stuff for E3 2015! I'm sure we will get a taste of some newer environments and some newer game play features.

All in all I'm very impressed and my game play reveal expectations were properly satisfied.

It's funny, the reaction to this game everywhere I look aside from GAF is completely different.

Reading comments from other developers and fans on twitter and there's nothing but superlative praise. Go on GAF and some dude is bitching about a rock texture.

I guess if you can please the majority of GAF, you can please anyone.

Thats what I mean. New guy is Sully's biological kid.

Drake is still some kid sully bumped into one day and helped out.

Since Drake and Sully have been together since Drake was a kid they see themselves as brothers

I'm wondering if the game could look this good on my 720p TV. Poor me :(

I really like the UI. Very Minimal and changes up.
Walking and climbing = no HUD
Enemy encounter = HUD
Use last gernade = gernade icon disappears

Yeah I hope it says in the final game. But stuff like this gets re-worked all the time.

My biggest wish is for more traversal tools integrated into the gameplay.

While it looks great, I was expecting more. And dropping to 30fps isn't a shock, but after ND talked about how 30fps feels broken after playing TLOU in 60fps, I expected them to stick to 60.

The game looks amazing. I love the animations and the dynamic clothing textures. The game play looks really good too. I definitely going to get this on day one.

I soiled myself when I first saw this... and every other time I watched it. This is absolutely incredible, in every aspect, and with lots o time to add polish. Good lord I'm happy I'm of the ilk that gets excited by things like this.

Game looks incredible to me. Itss more like a progression of U1's style than U3. Probably because U2 change in art from U1 was so radical it almost looked like a different IP. If I were to nitpick I wish it ran on 60fps.

Looks great.
Very polished for being a year away.

But is the 30fps final? Or just a placeholder until they do the final optimizations?

So far we haven't heard otherwise about it... as far as I know.

Even if UC4 is variably hitting 30-60 fps with it without optimal streamlining, I would think they would lock it at a stable 30 when showing it the public so it's not all over the place. I'll wait for a statement from ND, unless they released one already about this.
