The Order 1886 at PSX - Impressions, Gameplay, etc.

I don't know why people are so stingy about video game prices for the amount of time you get out of them they really are not that expensive at all.

If you go to the movies or buy a movie it'll cost you 15-20 dollars for a 2 hour movie. Multiply that by 3-4 for 60 dollars for a game and a minimum of 6-8 hours (which is half the time of a "short" game) not counting replay value or extras. Its not that expensive.

I always think about the exact same way.

Spoke to 3 more people who played it yesterday and they all loved it! None of them were too enthusiastic about the game before they played it yesterday.

Can't wait. Morpheus, this game and drawn to death are the major items for me today. Doors open in 30

Where are you headed first? I'm going to the Order booth first then headed over to drawn to death.

After reading g ign positive impressions and many others of the order at PSX I am confident all the hate this game got is going to make all those who prematurely bashed it look silly.

Why can't they show this game well? It is PERPLEXING to me. Like the way they started showing it at the conference.

Here's 20 seconds of an out of context cutscene. Ok now here is the CEO of the company.

WHAT THE FUCK? Why would you do that? You showed nothing at all in the cutscene other than that the graphics are amazing.

Other footage looks very nice.

It may very well be one of those rare games you have to actually play to get.

This is archaic. So you made a 30m build of the game, playable by anyone who attends. Why the fuck aren't you packaging it and releasing it as a 'demo' ASAP? You've done all the hard work. You're confident enough to let regular joes play it. Then freaking upload it to PSN and let everybody play it.

The only argument is that people bought tickets and you want them to have the allure of being able to do stuff non-attendees won't. Well the, wait 1-2 months and then release it on PSN. Heck, make it exclusive for PS+ members - so you do get paid as well. PS+ offering playable builds of games from the various trade show and events is actually a great way to inject value into the subscription.

Because the demo is entirely unfinished and likely fills up an entire blu ray. Lots of these demos are unfinished, un optimized, and have someone on standby to reset the demo in case anything goes wrong. An event demo is very different from a public release demo.

Let me get this straight; they show a 2 minute gameplay segment for the keynote that is underwhelming to say the least, then have an extended demo on the showfloor that isn't publicly available that is totally awesome, according to people who bought tickets and went all the way out to this Sony event in Vegas? Riiiight.

Every showing for this game has been cagey as hell and has displayed a considerable amount of hesitation on the part of the devs/pubs to just show what the game really is all about.

Sony could have done a game play demo like Uncharted 4. I feel a big disconnect with this game because every piece of media I see doesn't look that great, yet impressions are positive.

I think The Order really needs a pre release demo.

So everyone is lying? Get out if here with that nonsense.

Lol so everyone is lying? That's hilarious.

This is only the 2nd pure gameplay showing. They have been concentrating on the story and characters and locale and the unique weaponry and such up till now. But with 2 months to go expect lots more gameplay stuff to be around

I'm glad to hear lots of people liking it. I had a good feeling about this game despite its less than stellar showing up to this point.

You don't need to feel insulted by PairOfFilthySocks. Just another angry person that somehow was slighted by the creators of this video game in some form.

The amount of prejudice in that post towards devs and attendees blows my mind. And all that for a game that is not even out yet

? It'll almost certainly come out within the next couple of days

Sorry, some comments made it sound like they won't release footage anytime soon.

Well are you really surprised tho? This game is one of those games that tends to bring the worst type of comments out of some posters

Every game that is popular on GAF brings out these comments. While this game has seen some really ludicrous arguments against it, it's not unique in that position.

Edit: Oh you said as much. I was a bit too hasty.

I'm not too worried about instafail affecting the overall reception of the game. Hasn't Assassin's Creed had instafail in every game? It's a nitpick with it but it never seemed to hurt that series appeal

Haha, oh wow, the irrational negativity in these The Order threads has just reached a completely new level. What sort of conspiracy theory is this?

You're really pushing it too far.
The footage from the keynote was not underwhelming at all and if you don't like it just don't buy it. But refusing positive opinions and the fact that some people like it is silly.
Really don't understand the attitude "This game must suck at all costs" that some people have.

I'm not accusing anyone of lying. However, there's likely to be a considerable overlap between folks who somehow found the keynote footage impressive (beyond the graphics) and folks who are now impressed by this footage the public isn't getting to see.

As for prejudice against the devs, I've absolutely no doubt in my mind that RAD has phenomenally talented people working round the clock on this game. The intentions of the lead designers and writers is the underlying motivation behind just about every issue I have with what I've seen of the game, however. Their stated goals and ambitions for the game seem dull and uninspired, and I can't help it if they clearly manifest themselves in the footage I've seen so far.

While I agree with what you said some games tend to bring it out mroe than others. This, PS All Stars etc come to mind. For example you won't see the same about Bloodborne

As far as I know these missions were generally accepted as being the worst ones in the game. They've somewhat improved that in Unity in response.

It's more difficult for people to shit on what is essentially a sequel to one of the most highly regarded series on this forum compared to a new IP which hasn't proven itself yet.

I'm just not as motivated as the shit posters in The Order, Driveclub & Zelda threads or the Bloodborne thread would look differently as well. ;-)

Is it a stretch to say this is the best looking game I've ever seen, PC or otherwise? Because this is the best looking game I've ever seen. I'm not just saying that, either. I can run anything on ultra and downsample most games at a constant 30, so it's not spoken out of sheer ignorance. The art direction just pushes it to an entirely new level. I can't judge the gameplay since I haven't played it myself, but the graphics are a different matter. Holy hell.

RAD has done an unbelievable job with mixing old school technology with more advanced design to create these almost ... alien looking devices. I could see these things actually being doable if tech advanced down a different path in the 1800's.

Simply incredible. Not just the visuals, but the art and design. Fantastic work here. GOOD LORD.

I don't care if this is only 8-10 hours long. Looks like it is going to be a high quality ride from start to finish with a well built world and story.

Can't wait to see more! More impressions! More gifs!

Oh I know, they drove me nuts in Black Flag. I'm just saying that the games still reviewed quite well and people seemed to enjoy them despite those missions.

Yes. Or even charge money and have a virtual event. I would pay 50 bucks to be able to watch the panels and play some demos. And when morpheus comes out we can walk the floor. There will always be people that will go in person so it's not like they are cannibalizing anything.

Yep and also because the type of game this is. Story driven games tend to attract harsher comments in general around here..cuz fuck diversity that's why

lol fair point
