Is is unreasonable to complain about the new Zelda's textures?

I just got done complaining about the crappy wall texture in this Witcher 3 scene. All games need work.

Is that the Witcher 2 or 3? And if 3 what trailer is that scene from? I didn't know Saskia was in the game.

On topic, the game is a year away, they'll get the work done to get it to look good. Like others have said, the reason publishers show CG trailers all the time is because of threads like this.

Some of the reactions on here are good arguments against nintendo showing early builds of any of their games. I remember when we didn't see many of these early previews. Only journos got to see it, usually behind closed doors. Now we get to see these first looks and people are already writing the game off. Unbeleivable

The only thing I think is unreasonable is wen people focus too much on very specific stuff that usually has little or no implant in the game in motion. Sometimes I'm baffled at how much some ground textures and whatnot matter to people.

who is writing the game off? Who? Name names.

Having a criticism of a game is not writing it off.

So much this! Ty!

]It wasn't a trailer. It[/b] was more like a tiny first look from a game one year far from release. I dunno why nintendo decided to show it like that. But it was cool and a nice move from nintendo. Cause "zelda fans" screamed for footage. Now they have some, but complaining about textures, empty world etc. Reactions like this are killing all the fun
Yeah i was corrected earlier on. I was supposed to say latest video / demo or something like that.
But i don't have an issue with people stating stuff that concerns them. I also thought the e3 trailer looked fantastic, but the demo from a couple of days ago looked a bit.. Placeholdery in some regards. With also some amzing stuff going on like the horss, the grass, etc.
It's a game discussion forum. Peopl mostly say this because they love those games and they think these games deserve the best.

Also, i have zero doubt the game will be great. Nintendo has been giving us amazing high quality games on the WiiU.
Showing everyone they are still masters when it comes to making games.

It's fine to complain about an unfinished product, shown off-screen, nearly a year away from release
if you wanna look stupid
.

Can they even use the system memory for texture streaming? And no, the GPU in the Wii U is not "rocking".
But it is too early to judge, most definitely.

Nintendo can definitely do some decent texture work, as evidenced by seeing Galaxy 2 uprezzed in Dolphin. Was legit surprised just how much better everything looked when bumped up a notch. I know apples to oranges in terms of what's needing to be rendered in a platformer with smaller areas vs an open world game, but I do believe Nintendo is more than capable of making this look better in time for release.

Its reasonable to complain but unreasonable to act like it is the final representation of the game. Theoretically, it could get worse and could become better.

"The textures in this tech demo suck."

Terrible example. If it was a tech demo, it'd look even better than a full game, since they can dedicate all of their resources and hardware to one small part that they want to show off. If this footage is from a tech demo, then the textures are likely the best you'll see.

I dunno, I'd rather latch myself to the extreme of either side and just yell things.

I don't think it's unreasonable.

I personally think a fair amount of textures will be low fidelity in the full game. You kinda have to to have a huge seamless open world, (unless you want 4 min loading times).

People can bookmark this post...if they're into that sort of thing. I'm confident but we'll see.

I just don't really care about it much. I mean, I've played Xenoblade.

It does look very.... plain and the rocks are shiny in a way that... doesn't just blend into the artstyle IMO. BUT, I love the grass and the real-time lighting does look good in this one snippet. The part where link was standing at the top of that cliff though... eh, not so pretty.

Not ugly and sure would look better if it wasn't off-screen with that blue-tint.

You know what this reminds me of? The forest, that Early-access Steam game. Congrats Nintendo, you've made an indie game!

this one looks plain bad IMO. Probably even worse than TP in this one screenshot. Terrible object draw distance and awful textures everywhere. Looks like Drakan The Ancient's Gates for PS2.
"Screenshot" come on man :p

I'd like to remind everyone that Nintendo never fixed the ground textures in Ordon Village.

Nor the N64 trees in Skyward Sword, but I don't think it's a cause for concern just yet. I wasn't blown away by the new footage either, but like you I'm cautiously optimistic and am withholding judgment until next year's E3.

Nintendo's development cycle will always be gameplay/mechanics first, graphics second. Just look at 3D World's development and you'll see that in action. At E3 they showed it off and the graphics weren't that great, complaints were thrown around etc. Fast forward to a month before release and the game looked fantastic, far better than before.

In other words, don't worry.

You are right, its bound to have bad textures in parts, with the art direction helping it to hide them a little.
This is far bigger and detailed/demanding than SS,the system doesnt have much resources, and its "open world" , lets see if they can improve that, but i doubt it.

It's no Monster Hunter

I imagine that in the future games will just be textures. Like a carpet sample book. But for the eyes. That is when gaming will truly become it's final form.

Like what details? The rock that Link passed are the same as the rock textures from the e3 trailer.

The only things I noticed are less flowers in that specific pasture and no shadow cast by clouds (they could be in there but I can't see them [edit: oh the sun is low never mind]).

Other than that? Looks the same to me.

Lots of atmospheric details are already missing and texture work is not as good.

You are judging direct feed with off-screen footage. People are only just now spotting small details on the off-screen footage that were missed at first because of the stream quality. Seriously, just wait and see. We'll have more footage soon enough, and going by 3D World and Pikmin 3's quality, I'm not worried.

Is not only missing in that gif, is missing in every part of the footage.

Ton of jump cuts and also a different time of day compared to the E3 footage. How much do we know about weather in this new Zelda too? None. The basic environmental stuff we often see in Zelda comes around sunrise and sunset.

Yes, because there are no clouds in front of the sun in every part of the footage.

And because there won't be always fog in every part of the game.

The footage didn't show up only what was in the front of the sun...what kind of claim is that.

Even when the view was expanded to large parts of terrain, that effect was missing, even when clouds were clearly present in the sky, look the gif of the e3 reveal, the shadows can be seen in the landscape, even in the mountains far away....

My concern is that Nintendo maybe bit off more than they can chew with them chasing the whole open-world thing. No one will be impressed by a huge but largely uninteresting open-world which on top is also compromised visually due to technical constraints.

I know I would've preferred a more dense approach to world-design for the new Zelda game. In general I don't really care for RPGs that first and foremost define themselves through their big world (everything Bethesda, for example). Almost always that approach comes at the cost of other aspects; see the latest Dragon Age, for example, which many old fans find directionless and too light as far as narrative goes. After so many uninteresting sandboxes that got released in the last decade, I find it weird that people still fall for "huge world = best game" promises.
