More than 4 new characters would be a nice change of pace.

Maybe they start with the transition to the sf3 timeline.

Hugo and Oro are pretty weird looking. Q looks sorta normal at first glance, but his movements and vocalizations are super creepy.

No they don't, SF4 was sort of a reboot/going back to the basics thing which is why they used all SF2 characters from the starts. That is not the case with this game and the original 8(or 12) characters are far from the best characters they have.

Agreed. People that want to play the SF2 cast have SF4.

SF5 should be different. Some SF2 characters, sure, but nowhere near the majority.

Yea the original sf2 characters are kinda dated now that I think about it. I remember when I first started to get into street fighter. The 4 characters that I found at least midly likeable were Chun li, Ryu, Ken and maybe Guile. The rest just felt like cheesy phoned in stereotypes, even Guile. I mean I grew to like the others over time, but only because of repetition of playing the characters.

I thought the deal w/ Q was that he was using some sort of vocodor with that mask of his to obfuscate his vocals? He's kind of a spy, it'd help for a target to not recognize your real identity from your voice.

I don't find him any weirder than Bison (dictator) for example.

Perfect roster: Ryu, Chun Li, Fei Long, Necro, Sagat, Ibuki, Dudley, Haggar and 8 new characters.
Not bad. Not bad at all. Dunno if Haggar fits tho; I wouldn't want the MUGEN dream match roster that eventually became SFIV's. Slipping Haggar in there would be inviting that to happen, potentially.

The only character that I found weird in SF3 was Twelve. I really like everyone else's design for different reasons, but Twelve never cliked with me.

Oro, Q, Necro, Twelve, Urien and Gill are really the only "weird" characters in 3, so that's less than a third out of a roster of 19 characters. And no, Hugo and Dudley don't count, and they're not any more "weird" or "goofy" than fucking Dhalsim, Blanka, Vega, Birdie or Sodom.

I see.

BTW I wasn't dissing 3rd strike...I'm awful at it but it is really fun. Just was wondering why people are so found of it and yet it failed.

i now know

I was around 10 when SF3 was a thing. There was no arcade version for it here as far as I know. And there was no Playstation version. If there was I would have played it. I played everything else SF-related in those days, provided I didn't have to buy a new console for it. I'm sure the same goes for many others. Heck, I don't think I even knew about the Dreamcast version until several years after it was released.

What? Cody, Guy, Maki, Sodom, Rolento, Hugo and Poison are all from Final Fight. SF4 is basically Alpha part deux anyway. Having Haggar makes complete sense. If anything he should have entered the series back in the Alpha days.

Q is one of my favorite SF characters so I'd be excited to see his return but sometimes I wonder how much of that is due to the style and animation of SF3. Would 3D SF5-style Q be able to capture whatever it is I like about him, dunno.

After Ultra Street Fighter IV had essentially every returning character worth a damn I think it would be wise to go with a mostly new cast this time around, to help it stand out from IV. Not on III's absurd "Everyone but the shotos and Chun Li are out" but maybe not have the entire SFII cast back.

I agree. SFIV was mostly a nostalgia trip of "I wonder what this character looks like in 3D", but they have to go for something new this time.

If they bring back Q, I want them to go full robot with him. I have this mental image of an ultra version of his second super, but when he does the double-fist overhead punch, he follows through so hard that he completely rotates his body 360º vertically (like a complete rotation from his hips).

Yeah. I wonder that too. I feel like Hugos magic was lost in the transition to 3D. He was less fluid and way slower. What I liked about Sf3 Hugo was he was deceptively fast.

No other Shadowloo guys
No 4 characters
Haggar instead of hugo, cody or guy
No alex
Necro
Feilong
No alpha characters
No cammy
The weird thought process that Juri and Viper arent getting into 5
So few characters

Get out of here with that poo teir list

I meant to say, regarding a main SF. That's one of the reasons IV's roster seems bonkers and a lot like a "side" game like Alpha, b/c of all the FF characters. II and III didn't have FF characters aside from in the background, and only characters that seemed like they'd be fighters, like Hugo. Of if you're talking Alpha, Rolento and Guy. Not Poison, as much as I love looking at her.

SF and FF take place in the same universe (or do they?), but the crossover was light at best. IV took it too far, and they need to scale down on the FF crossovers and focus more on new characters specifically for the SF canon.

No they do not, final fight isn't a thing anymore, it isn't hurting anyone, put them in.

Hell I want them to put grown up Rival schools characters in, that never going to be a thing ever. Why not bastu

It hurts no one, its fanservice and it introduces some people to some stuff they didn't know about. And no one really gives a shit about SF canon too much, so it works

New characters can't be any form of shoto, i would love to see a Shaolin monk, or even a Druken Master..Brad from DOA3 was bad ass.

Edit: A Kendo fighter..

Considering Capcom is supposedly targeting North Africa, South America and South East Asia as markets with SF5, Sean, Oro and Santamu would make perfect sense as additions. If they're going the KI route I see Sean being a Season 1 addition and Oro being a season 2 addition.

Capcom really should bring over some Rival School characters...I just really want Akira back.

Hell yeah. In terms of crossover potential I want Haggar, Akira and Simone to make the jump to SF5, in basically that order of most wanted to "least" wanted. I don't think they should bring over more than one or two, though. Daigo would be great, for example. But like jhmtehgamr20xx and others I really want tons of new characters.

They're in the same universe, yes.
Alpha was a main SF though. It's as much a main SF as 4 is, it just lacks a number. Heck, it was even called Zero in Japan.
I mean, I get what you're saying. I agree to a certain extent. But Capcom just doesn't care. And I'm fine with Capcom reusing characters from other franchises. SF2 is really the only part of the series that didn't.

Going by the supposed 16 characters in the initial release

*Ryu
*Chun-Li
*Ken
*Zangief

*Guy
*R.Mika
*Karin (or Adon if they can't get her rights)

*Viper
*Juri

*Alex
*Urien

And 5 new characters, including a new final boss.

The only characters I want are Rose and Cody, in that order.

I have a bad feeling I'm going to be disappointed.

I thought the SF EX characters were pretty unique, although I never liked to play any of them when I was younger. Just give us a big roster please :)

As a secret boss, maybe. Could be interesting. As the main boss of the story mode? Eeeh, it should be Bison, Gill or someone new I feel.

Well she's seemingly a very important character in-universe who hasn't had her moment to shine.

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
If it's really going to be sixteen characters, I'd prefer to see them go with something like 10 new and six returning or eight new and eight returning. Out of those returning characters, let's just have a select few be from SF4 and the others characters from 1/Alpha/III who weren't in IV.

I don't want Street Fighter IV all over again...I want something new!

I think they should do like Toshinden 3 and have Mel Masters be a hidden character. He could throw mini Hadokens and do mini Shoryureppas.

She's certainly an important figure alright, but having only been an additional character on the PSP port of another port of an 16 year old game, she's way too obscure to stick in the forefront of a new SF.

I would have loved it if they followed the Tekken route and aged the roster. Have Mel Masters and an older Sakura be the new Ken and Ryu. One of Chun-Li's students takes her place. Cammy can return and stay young as another clone. Old man Ryu is the new Akuma. Harada can claim Ono ripped him off and they can have a rematch. Etc.

You're basically describing Toshinden 4. The main characters' sons and daughters became the main cast, and the previous main character became the secret legendary badass hiding in the shadows.

I'd like to see Simone from Cannon Spike.

I wasn't even aware of the character or game but would love characters like this in SFV than a lot of characters from SF2. The last thing SFV should be is another celebration of SF2. I'm bored to death of those character, we need more new faces and returning characers from niche titles/franchises.

SC5 did this and people hated that so many of the people they wanted to play were gone.

Street Fighter roster discussion is weird for me. Because while I'd love to see some new awesome additions like Rufus and C. Viper, and would love to see more classics brought back, I really only care about Guile. And I know he's gonna be in there so I'm content.

If he isn't though, rage. Although I don't see them pulling a full on 3rd strike.

They need to pull a half 3rd strike at least. Sagat is my favorite SF character but I don't need to see him again, I'll just play SF4 or go back to SF2. Capcom needs to establish new play-styles and badasses, its the only way SFV will stand out as a sequel and not another iteration.

I do feel like if this thing is either an IMMEDIATE prequel to Third Strike, or an actual sequel to the game (finally) then it needs to incorporate SFIII characters more than SFII ones.

And if we're going with seasons instead of iterative updates in the form of new games/skus, and it's 16 people in the main game for Season 1, then it probably should go about half/half pre-existing characters and new ones, leaving most of the season updates for the returning characters from the series.

That makes choosing who goes into Season 1 a lot harder, because you're probably gonna end up with only 8-10 returning Street Fighters, and Ryu/Ken/Chun are taking up 3 of those slots automatically.
