Fighting Games Weekly | Dec 8-14 | Sony pleads the FiF

I didn't really think it was a big deal to begin with, since it's not like it changed a whole lot. Not only that but checking twitter, I didn't see any whining from Ryan Hart or PR Balrog. I think everyone made it seem like a way bigger deal than it really was.

It was ridiculous seeing people act like the tournament lost validity because their home bracket didn't reflect what was being shared among the people at the venue.
That's not the reason why people were upset. The brackets were handled wrong, whether the paper reflects that or not.

So on the bracket stuff, it seems the paper bracket they used in person had the slots where folks go to losers swapped compared to the form that they used online. That's why the matches went they way it did instead of how the online showed it. That isn't surprising at all actually.

Unless I'm mistaken, this has happened during EVO finals too. People would expect one losers bracket, but it would be a different order at the actual event.

Of course the difference is this time we actually had a bracket...but still.

This tweet is going to haunt... umm Haunts for days

Nah. It was an honest mistake so the crew aren't going to lose sleep over it.

Yeah. It didn't really change anything since they were all tough matches anyway. It's just folks freaking out because they don't know why and are assuming things and wanting their favs to possibly get easier matches of which there were none at that point in the tourney, lol

Evo has more human-error than system error though. This one was a problem with the paper rather than the records, it would seem.

I think going forward *knock on wood* if I get into grad school, I'll need something better than this sub-720p Lenovo laptop with a shitty trackpad, and perhaps something that can handle a graphics tablet as well. Gaming laptops seem pretty excessive to me though, and even though I see people going HAM on League and stuff, I much prefer a separate, larger monitor/TV + keyboard.

Even still, I think I might go console version of SFV, given that there will be a physical option.

And plus considering Sony is pushing the whole "built from the ground up for the PS4", it'd be a much safer bet to just get it for the console.

Since Charlie was mentioned..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbAkrnV2kmk His A3 theme is so good.

awwwww shiet son.

Isn't $500k the number Capcom threw out for the CPT in 2012?

Yes, but it was phrased like this

$500,000 worth of cash, non-cash prizing, and amenities.

The recent announcement was phrased like this on the official SF twitter account

Capcom Pro Tour will continue next year with a total prize pool of $500k !!!

Capcom ran the SF25 tournaments themselves and a lot of that 500k went into paying for venues, staff, flights and so on. Plus the money was split into 4 games. If nothing changes from this year then the 2015 CPT will use community events as qualifiers again and only have one game. So ideally all the money goes into the payouts(incuding stuff like paying for peoples flights) with even bigger numbers(for the winners) to throw out since it all goes only into USF4. That's what I'm assuming anyways.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if the PS4 got it first either, and the PC got a delayed release as a caveat of their contract (and because PS4 is probably the lead platform).

I don't know how much either company sees the PC as an actual competing platform, seeing that they're spending all their effort keeping games off each other's platforms as opposed to trying to keep it exclusive to theirs.

Don't know about the logic of delaying the PC release, my only worry is that they'll ubisoft the optimization or capcom the netcode

The bracket they used is flat-out the wrong way to run a double-elimination tournament. The fact that nobody running that event knew or understood that is sad.

Nah. It was an honest mistake so the crew aren't going to lose sleep over it.

They should. They fucked up.

There are a couple of issues with Evo brackets.

1) Occasionally a volunteer who runs pools can fuck up the bracket for that pool. The story I tell is of an Evo judge running a Persona 4 Arena pool at Evo 2013 who thought that the bracket was printed out wrong because the letters that denote how you send people to losers bracket were in reverse alphabetical order. (They're in reverse alphabetical order because that's the "flipping" part to avoid rematches.) So what does he do? He crosses out all the letters and re-writes them in alphabetical order and runs the bracket that way. This resulted in half the people in that pool getting double jeopardied out of the tournament.

2) The way Evo's bracketing system works, the final "Top 8" bracket is a brand new bracket from the semifinal "Top 16" or "Top 32" bracket, instead of being a continuation of it. This can lead to some examples of double jeopardy not unlike what happened today (Although unlike the Capcom Cup, there's usually a day in-between semifinals and finals, so nobody really notices it when it happens.)

So one notable thing missing from sf v was a guard bar...you think breaks aren't actually in or it's just a Ryu specific thing or something?

Do you mean the bracket in the first place? If so, how is it wrong? The placement locations in the template?

Decapre's buff list thought

-Far standing LP and Crouching LP, you can now cancel them into Rapid Dagger on whiff and while mashing
-Far standing MP, startup frame reduced to 5 from 7
-Crouching HP, now cancellable into EX focus, red focus, and super
-EX Psycho Sting, travel distance forward increased, increased block stun by 4 frame, EX Psycho Sting -> FADC forward is now -1
-Psycho Sting, invincibility frame increased to "1-8" from "1-5"
-Rapid Dagger, the 2nd hit from last increased frame advantage on hit and block by 4 frames, increased frame advantage on block in general that it's easier to make it a true block string
-EX Spiral Arrow, damage reduced to 120 from 160
-EX Scramble (LK+MK), the window during which you can do a followup after Decapre disappears reduced to 7 frames from 13
-EX Razor's Edge, projectile invincible until the end of active frame
-U2, anti-air version has more priority over grounded version when the commands overlap

EDIT: can't believe you guys haven't posted the Filipino Champ porno look-alike. That one is the best/worst.

Just put in vanilla SF4 in my 360 for fun and i found a ranked game within seconds.

Wtf... Why are people still playing this? lmao

Look man, when your main character (mine is Gief) hits like a truck, you never wanna go to another update. Real talk though, people still play vanilla marvel. I would ask them why and they said they couldn't afford the upgrade... The struggle is real.

I have never before seen a 16-man double-elim bracket set up like that, where the losers of both the 2nd and 3rd round matches are reversed in how they are sent to losers. I know that for 32- and 64-man double-elim brackets, different bracket programs have different ways of sending people to losers each round, and I won't really raise a big stink about those differences (though I think Challonge/Playpool do it best). However, I have never seen a double-elim bracket that flips two consecutive rounds before. The person running the bracket should have known that was wrong, and that what they had on the website, (and indeed, what every website showed) was right. They didn't, and thus, they fucked up.

Truf. Shamefully, I must admit that I had not upgraded SF4 vanilla until recently with the physical of Ultra. Granted, I still kept up to date by mooching off my friends' copies but still....shit was rough.

That last page was ban worthy. I don't understand.... how you guys get away with this atrocity.

Sounds like someone's jelly that they couldn't join in on the fun. It's okay.

I would, but I fear I've already contributed far too much to this thread already.

Did you not understand the context? The implied collusion was so thick I could hardly move.

Huh? I was talking about the pictures! My eyes are still burning!!! I don't care about collusion talk, FGC and collusion is like peanut better and jelly. Tell me something that I don't know!!!

Complete global saturation.

The struggle was real but Gief got better with Ultra fortunately. Gorilla, pls tell me you play a grappler? Our kind is far and few!
Screw T. Hawk players and their condor dives.

Really? I'm pretty sure I've seen it myself but I don't recall exactly.

But anyway, it's an honest mistake if they're paper one didn't match the website. Sure, they should have realized it but it's not as big of a deal as say purposefully moving folks.

You know, all this time I was waiting on the FGC at large to get behind either the PS4 or XB1 before I decided which of the two I'd be purchasing for myself, and SF5 should be the game that seals the deal, but after thinking on it, I can't come up with a single good reason why I shouldn't just go PC instead.

It's not something I really expected. I haven't been a "PC gamer" since SimCity 2000 was current, but I'm really not keen on paying for online play anymore or dealing with all of the baggage that modern console gaming has acquired.

Last gen really soured me a lot of consoles between the defective software (Bayonetta and practically any Bethseda game) on the PS3 and having to pay for mp on XBL. Between SF5 (for 2d/bridge fighting) and DOA5LR for (3d/arena fighting), I'm not really feeling the urge to get one of the current gen consoles.

Dang, them Elena buffs.

EX mallet nerf definitely hurts tho, but best-case, it'll encourage Elena players to space that move a bit better, which they probably should be doing anyway.

True, but I feel that if the person running the bracket had any knowledge of how 16-man double-elimination works (at least at every fighting game tournament I've ever seen), they should've known the one they printed out wasn't right.

Who honestly thought Momochi was going to win? I don't think I seen person saying he would. Honestly I would've and still would put him near the end to win it all. Coming to U.S majors and getting far and never really winning it all, something was overdue for him. Lots of upsets. Snake Eyez being a heavy favorite for the U.S guys. PR being the least likely to get the furthest out of the U.S guys.

One thing I got right. Daigo wasn't going to win. I must be the only person on earth who thinks regular Ryu is better than Evil Ryu. I think having the super and certain little aspects over Evil Ryu makes him better.

The fact that a crap PC port will lead to PS4 users being screwed as well when they play PC folk online makes me think they'll do it right.

As for Momochi I thought he'd lose to whoever eventually won, glad to see him win though. Really wanted Luffy to get it.

Are they restreaming it right now or is this some after party band thing? I actually missed some parts of it so I want to watch it again.
