Going into Capcom Cup, I thought Justin was the weakest player aside from Chu Chu and Nuckledu. Marvel is definitely the main game he's been focusing on.

Real talk though both Daigo and Justin are excellent players, with Daigo being among the GOATs SF players. Nothing can take that away from him, his record speaks for itself. Justin probably just had a bad day, yea he was going to get bopped by Daigo that was expected but his performance against Valmaster showed that either he was having a bad day Daigo mind fucked him. People expect these guys to win all the time, they are only human.

Both of those players have one problem... they are stubborn. Daigo is too stubborn to counter pick and Justin is too stubborn to pick top tier or even picking a character with a "lame" playstyle which is better suited to him. You pick whatever increases your chances of winning a match. If picking Yun against Dhalsim increases your chances then do it FFS.

TL:DR version: Just pick a top tier/counter

Justin needs to get back in the lab and start grinding. His Rufus is the same as two-three years ago, while both Ricky and Andreas got better with the character.
Maybe it's because he plays other games too, but talent isn't going to take him anywhere with this kind of competition and it's only going to get fiercer in the next years.

Pretty much this.

You see these tweets from Justin and company last night? That Sony money has them all excited and it looks like they want to form some kind of super training team for next year.

This is about as serious as we'll probably ever see Justin(along with everybody else) with USF4 or any game in particular. Maybe this new drive will finally get him to pick up a new character or train up side characters to counter pick in certain match ups. You gotta do whatever it takes when that much is on the line. It nearly worked out for Xian last night. He must have worked very hard on that Sim just for Daigo and no one else in that tournament.

LMAO @ Perfect Legend's "guyz can I come too???"

To be honest, Justin and co say this after every EVO. They always say stuff like "we are definitely picking top tier now!" or "I am just going to concentrate on SF4 now".

I guess the money is unprecedented though. It might give Justin the motivation he needs. But he seriously needs a character switch and I would almost say that Ricky should be going towards Poison as well (if she is indeed top tier).

If Justin and friends were really serious about improving, they would get in that Japan hyberbolic time chamber already.

i hope he stops being a lazy and finally moves away from rufus

Part of me thinks that this isn't going to change much.

50K was a ton of money for Capcom Cup, among the highest... we still saw the usual stuff from the US players (PRBalrog with a weak E.Ryu, Justin and Ricky with the same Rufus etc). And before that Justin was tweeting "hey guys I am totally practicing hardcore for SF!"

I hope I am wrong... I want US to fucking win an EVO or Capcom Cup already.

And all these Fanatiqs who are going to pick up USF4 all of a sudden is just hilarious.

I guess the money is unprecedented though.

Pretty much this, if you guys watched Floe's stream from last night it was hilarious. He basically lost his shit over that announcement and spent over an hour playing songs about money and how he's all USF4 from now on, fuck everything else lol.

As a viewer this is what I want to see from the top players, real money equals real motivation. No more of this "I only play the game once a week" talk. You can bet Japan and Europe will be more motivated then ever as well. Maybe they'll even form these new mini teams to send there champion to try and win one of these qualifiers, who knows.

Rufus didn't change all that much from AE to Ultra, Standing strong buff mostly.

No problems with the way Ricky or Rog played.

Hakan, Gief and Honda. Big boi's fa life, son!!

You goods people menj

What's to take serious?

The greatest versus game of all time homie.
Get at me, Marvel 2 was hype but it was broken beyond repair. We still see a lot of character diversity in Marvel 3, even though everyone has a pocket doom now.

Is this what people are calling a parry?

I don't think that's a parry

I think the blocking animation just changes when Ryu attacks different areas of the body, like you know how a real fight would be.

TL:DR version: Just pick a top tier/counter

I need that Sanford quote in ma veins.

Says Japan is washed up.

A Japanese won Capcom Cup.

Do you even think before posting?

And a Japanese player won the first Capcom Cup.
I don't know if the EG players should train together, it seems like they aren't going anywhere. I'm amazed at how PR Rog's E. Ryu sucks despite all the training. With his aggressive Rog he can win 2/3 matches because there's no one around the world on his level, but in longer sets he needs a pocket character, but his E. Ryu hasn't improved at all.

No problems with the way Ricky or Rog played.

And the bolded is the problem.

Many characters got insane buffs in Ultra, Rufus didn't get something spectacular and neither did Balrog.

Ricky and PRRog played really well with their characters and pushed both of those characters to the absolute limits. It wasn't enough and at that point you have to think "was it the player or the characters?"

If someone like PRRog has to think twice about using his main then that's a problem.

He also got the more active stand forward, ex messiah not going over characters, messiah having juggle potential, and the stand fierce having an expanded downwards hitbox. Definitely the best version of Rufus since vanilla.

You know Valmaster bopped Justin before right

I was very dissapointed in how Justin fared. Daigo wasn't a surprise(but seeemed like he didnt even try), and Valmaster had his number too from a couple previous europe tourneys(he turned autopilot on, even tried to play footsies against chun a couple times and that crumple into sweep?). He told everyone that he was in heavy SF4 grinding. He didn't want to do UMvC3/MvC2 money matches/casual sesions because he was supposed to be focusing on that 30k prize and checking out his opponents bad habits and stuff. So to everyone saying that he's really going to focus in USF4 now... he was already supposed to be doing that(by his own admission). I'm going to sound like a fool here but maybe the pressure is too much for him now?

He truly needs dat Japan hyberbolic time chamber.

Last year Marvel and KI were a better time investment for Wong. He can see the level of competition in all these games and picks the ones where he has a higher chance of success to focus on. With the 500k though things may change since even getting 3rd will be a big payday.

I'm being totally serious here

I think if Justin went on a diet/started working out, he would play a lot better.

Not that being overweight is a detriment to skill level. Its just an unhealthy way to live life, and it must affect him somewhat.

Dahbomb

He should get on a diet not because it would help him win but because it's better for his life. But this is not the place to discuss Justin's BMI.

Well not get on a diet, but improve it. It certainly helps both the psychically and physiologically states of a player. More micronutrients and less carbs/fat in his diet with walking everyday should work wonders for him unless he really wants to get gains then he's gotta go hardcore parkour on it.

Buy a new stick if you are bad with money or feel that you can afford it.

Just play it on PS3 if you are a reasonable and frugal person.

I'm trying to cycle my PS3 out of my area. I'm keeping my 360 to play mvc3 online, but want to make my wiiu/x1/ps4 my main consoles.

Yup. Hindsight is 20/20 but maybe Smug would've done better too.

If Pepeday was in it, I would think Snake Eyes would have even less of a chance than he did. I know he went 0-2 but before the tournament people thought he would go far, but if Pepeday was there, I wouldn't bet on Snake Eyes to take it. I think he would stop him since Pepe has beaten him more than once and the matchup seemed infuriating for him since Fuerte runs circles around him.

That prize pot is going to turn more than just the current top tier's heads. Mid tier folks like me are also going to be working.

That is a life changing amount of money.

man pepeday could have done some damage at capcom cup with the 2/3 format.

Take out Chuchu and one other player for Smug and Pepeday. The tournament was a good watch but it wasn't as hype as it could have been. Maybe for next year Capcom could still do the points system but for 12 of the 16 players and for the last four, they do it as they did it last year, the four players with the most votes get in. The reason I say this is because we might have people (around 8) attending Capcom Cup this year and next year since they are really good.

The matchup is made up of nightmares.

But what could you actually change about Rufus? He seems like such a hard character to balance.

I'm pretty sure Mago is going to drop Yang now going by his tweets. Fuudo is going to be more focused now too. I know Kazunoko was a lot less dedicated in the last few months than he was in 2012. That will probably change.

Maybe, maybe not. The reason he beat people like Snake Eyez and Poongko was because of a best of 5 set.

but he also won Tokyo Game Show surprising everyone

These balls out players/characters can do serious damage at these tournaments, but usually get bopped in long sets.

I wouldn't change anything, I would say that JWong/Ricky should switch. These two are much better at footsies than RTSD all day so they should pick characters that suit that playstyle. PRRog is a mauler for example.

Even then though, I say if you want to just maul all day then pick Yun or even Cammy. If you want a character with explosive damage, decent/good normals, good reversal and fireball then you pick Evil Ryu. If you want a more footsie character then pick Fei Long or Poison. If you want to just throw coins at the opponent then pick Viper or Ibuki. Some archetypes are simply better than others, you pick the character that is the strongest in that archetype which suits your playstyle.

Ain't no one got time to pick Oni over Evil Ryu or Yang over Yun.

I still think USF4 is a very balanced game when all things are considered but even when the difference is 5% between character strength then that could be the difference between win or loss.

As they say in RPGs, it's time to min/max everything.

What I really enjoyed about Momochi was how he sticked to Ken no matter what. The character is honest/good like Rose and it was a real pleasure to see him push him so far. Also really enjoyed Ryan's play with Ryu. It makes me want to continue playing him.
