Fighting Games Weekly | Dec 8-14 | Sony pleads the FiF

I still think USF4 is a very balanced game when all things are considered but even when the difference is 5% between character strength then that could be the difference between win or loss.

Yeah but it's not as simple as pick x character over y character because they're the same archetype. If you're fighting Smug, you are better off playing Yang than Yun. If you have to fight PR Rog, Rufus is the best divekick character to use.

Hopefully for next year, the qualifiers for Capcom Cup will be a lot more spread out instead of just being mostly in the US.

Not too many Asia qualifiers, iirc. Non-sponsored players are having a tough time because of it.

To add to this I think the online qualifiers need more visibility. A lot of people went WTF when they saw Knuckledu and ChuChu in it and not people like Gamerbee who was very visible within Asian qualifiers not make it (he was the bridesmaid but never the bride too many times in those tournaments). Not to really disregard Knuckledu and ChuChu's skills, it's just that many people were not able to experience how they got in, and some would argue that they had an easier path than other competitors to compete.

That said, Knuckledu was worth the slot since he was able to beat Snake Eyes. I'm pretty sure no one saw that coming because they always mention how Snake Eyes beats Dieminion and think Du is a second class Guile compared to him.

I'm pretty sure Mago is going to drop Yang now going by his tweets. Fuudo is going to be more focused now too. I know Kazunoko was a lot less dedicated in the last few months than he was in 2012. That will probably change.

Who's Mago gonna switch to now?

Very true. I really have to wonder if Smug knew about any of these. I feel like he could've made it through the online qualifier easy.

I'm being totally serious here

I think if Justin went on a diet/started working out, he would play a lot better.

Not that being overweight is a detriment to skill level. Its just an unhealthy way to live life, and it must affect him somewhat.

Emperor. We've already discussed this. Justin has the body of a goddess. You can't improve perfection.

It's an image thing IMO. I hear being "thick" is in. Look at all the fan girls Flux has amassed, for example.

Time to hit the McDonald's.

True but in the end you have to chart all this out. Which character has the most winning or equal match up. Not everyone will have all winning match ups but you have to make the most optimum pick.

No one should have to be in a situation where they lost because of a bad match up. That shit is unacceptable now if you want to win big.

So what is Daigo's status as of now? Free to Dhalsim and NorCal?

He's free to Sim. All shotos are free to sim. His fights with sims are always extremely close though so a lot of hype matches happen when he's involved.

He still made a lot of money though. He won both Topanga Leagues, which earned him $21k + however much the Asia finals (both the qualifier and finals) gave him.

Who's Mago gonna switch to now?

I'm just guessing because he was laughing off (sarcastically of course) how Yang got no changes in this update. He also showed excitement at the prize money announced. He only switched to Yang in the first place because he wanted to be more entertaining as a lot of people find Fei Long boring. He was relegated from the Topanga B League so it just shows how bad he's been with Yang.

As much time as he spends online, it baffles me that he didn't. He could have won a lot of online tournaments on PS3 and 360 and would have easily qualified when combined with the points he earned at ranking tournaments.

As for next year, yeah things gotta change a little. It shouldn't be so US biased and give online tournaments to Asia as well. That would mean that one of the big US Majors would have to lose a spot though. But that's the only way to make it fairer.

Now that both ArcSys and Capcom have shown what new GG and SF will look like moving forward, it's just SNK left now to show what they have come with for KOF.

Going to be tough since both GGXrd and SFV look fantastic.

Is there a KOF title in development?

Or better yet SS or something?

Gym subscription expires end of the month, guess I'm not renewing.

I think they confirmed that they're working on a new KOF, and that they'll be abandoning sprites in favor of 3D models.

This is hardcore shade being thrown under the guise of concern lol you really think the rest of the FGC as a collective is any healthier than Justin?

Apparently Sony is putting the $500K throughout the whole Pro Tour, not just the finals. So every tournament is going to have a larger prize pool.

That is definitely not shade, lol. It'd very likely be a good thing for him, it's definitely been mentioned by a bunch of MTG guys that it helps, although there it's an issue of concentration/mental fatigue primarily.

I think that is the best option. That way you have more people having an incentive to go to these tournaments that are largely run by the community. Not everyone can go compete in Capcup but most people have the chance if they want to go to any other major to just compete. It is also so people can feel like they can go to a tournament and feel like they can win something back if the money is spread far down enough.

This is what I guessed yesterday. Throw like 20k at every Premiere event(it was 2k this year) and that still leaves 300k for Capcom Cup. You're not getting 500k for winning the whole thing but you should still get a number in the 6 figure range. But something like 20k would be absolutely huge for community run tournaments. You don't have to go through a gargantuan EVO size tourney to win EVO level money for SF4.

What if Capcom/Sony did something where players qualified by country for a continental qualifier, then took the top placers at each continental qualifier for the Capcom Cup? I'm thinking something like Blizzard did for the World Championships of Starcraft in 2012 (before they fucked it up in 2013-14).

Capcom Cup: 7 from Asia Qualifier, 4 from NA, 3 from EU, 1 from SA, 1 from OCE

Asia Qualifier: 7 JPN, 3 CHN, 2 KOR, 2 SIN, 1 TPE, 1 HKG, 1 THA, 1 PHI

NA Qualifier: 8 USA, 4 CAN, 2 MEX, 2 Caribbean/Central America

EU Qualifier: 4 FRA, 3 GBR, 2 SWE, 2 GER, 2 NED, 1 NOR, 1 Rest of Europe, 1 Middle East/Africa

SA Qualifier: 3 BRA, 3 ARG, 2 VEN, 2 COL, 2 PER, 2 CHI, 1 BOL, 1 ECU, 1 URU, 1 PAR

OCE Qualifier: 6 AUS, 2 NZL

Obviously this would cost a lot of money to put on invitational qualifiers in each continent, so it almost certainly won't happen. But it's fun to speculate, and also I really don't want to have to do laundry right now.

Hahaha. Damnt I was building up to it.

No joke this is my wallpaper. Shit's inspiring in the morning, yo.

Yeah, 20K is what the prize pool is for large open MTG events, would make sense if they split it this way.

It's shade in the sense that it's an insult being thrown under the guise of faux concern. Dude isn't Justin's physician or doctor, he doesn't know the status of his health. All we see is a chunky dude on streams.

Both.

They had ads in Arcadia and on their own website specifically hiring for new entries in both series.

Rumor is that the next KOF will be a dream match.

when you have dead characters in non-dream matches, does being a dream match really matter anymore?

Looking forward to it, in any case

north africa might be one since they are targeting that market

I actually like this cause it will hopefully drive up registrations

I don't think the US bias will change next year, but with a bigger pot size we may see an international invasion.

With SFV release things may change, they want to expand and one of the most important future market is China, then you have the rest of Asia too.
