Media Create Sales: Week 51, 2014 (Dec 15 - Dec 21)

The period should be the same as the top10. It's in the first page of the section.

DBFC, can you check the numbers? 32583 =/= 30098 + 2491.

As for Sumikko Gurashi, I don't know how Famitsu got 439 downloads, if the release date was December 4th. Maybe they are polling pirates.

Thanks!

Sorry, Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax on Vita is at 32.589 combined.

For the second game, I really don't know. Famitsu says #30 is すみっコぐらし ここがおちつくんです, which is that cat drinking coffee game from Nippon Columbia. They list the release date as November 20th.

Yeah, Sumikko Gurashi has been released on Nov. 20th.

That's for the physical version. The issue is that Nintendo's site lists the digital version's release date as December 4th. Either the tracking period for this month's list didn't end on November 23rd, Nintendo is wrong, or Famitsu's digital numbers are really dubious.

Nintendo's site is correct as the digital version did release two weeks later.

J-Stars Famitsu Vs.

Wii U vs. GC
Code:
week 105 - 2,008,548 / 2,431,847 -423,299
week 106 - 2,037,959 / 2,446,227 -408,268
week 107 - 2,074,356 / 2,461,742 -387,386
the weak sales for GC (Oct.2003) reduced the gap to a level we had in week 100 (-381k); considering the incoming week 52 and 01, the gap will decrease more but after that a rise is expected (GC winter 2003 vs. Wii U Q1 2015)

PS3 vs. PS4
Code:
week 42 - 1,143,798 / 809,751 -334,047
week 43 - 1,160,614 / 873,768 -286,846
week 44 - 1,174,164 / 895,425 -278,379
thanks to a couple of bundles the gap showed a big drop and it has been reduced as week 37 levels (-273k). The incoming weeks will show a decrease, PS3 had 8 weeks with an average 10-15k sold, then PS3 winter 2007 will show how much strong PS4 Q1 will be (PS3 had a 50k average for 8 weeks)

PS4 vs. Wii U
Code:
week 42 - 809,751 / 1,065,742 -255,991
week 43 - 873,768 / 1,071,302 -197,534
week 44 - 895,425 / 1,075,155 -179,730
same here, Wii U had 3k average for 3 weeks, than winter 2013 will come (with the mighty week 55, 119k), but after week 60 a turnaround is expected

3DS 2013 vs. 2014
Code:
week 48 - 4,171,682 / 2,459,956 -1,711,726
week 49 - 4,293,808 / 2,552,848 -1,740,960
week 50 - 4,477,570 / 2,716,292 -1,761,278
week 51 - 4,722,616 / 2,934,704 -1,787,912
Luckly after 2 weeks this depressing comparison will end, but looking at the glass half full : 2012 week 51 LTD 4,722,616 (difference is -2,425,269; AC+NSMB2 >> YW2.5 + Pokemon ORAS + MH4G + Smash + n3DS + n3DS LL)

bonus :
PSV 2014 vs.
2012
Code:
week 50 - 1,077,756 / 637.287 +440,469
week 51 - 1,107,413 / 656,343 +451,070
After all those negative trends it was time for some positive thing ;)

and now, what everyone was waiting for......

XB1 vs. Pippin@Mark
Code:
LTD : 45,143 / 43,000 +2,143
finally XB1 is not the worst selling system in Japan anymore !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

PS4 launch aligned is doing worse than the Wii u, Even If the wii u stops selling it will be difficult. A year advantage and launched aligned performing worse isn't something easily made up in 2 years, not with the PS4's potential sales which aren't that great.

Launch aligned the WiiU is just barely ahead and it released during the holidays. PS4 has already closed the gap by around 400k with this year without a single major release. While WiiU got Smash Bros and Mario Kart. The gap will be a lot smaller by the end of 2015 thanks to all the Japanese titles the PS4 is getting. A 1.1m gap isn't exactly impossible to close.

You can thank the launch week numbers for that mostly. The PS4 won't pull numbers like that in it's lifetime again unless it's a holiday season(but I doubt the PS4 will pull numbers like that during a holiday season). The PS4 won't sell enough next year to get rid of the gap completely. It should be able to sell enough next year to get rid of 65%-80% of the gap, but with the way all the other consoles and handhelds have sold the year after launch the PS4's ltd may actually be slightly or significantly lower than this year next year.

That's true but we still don't know what business model Mevius is pursuing do we?(What's Legends referring to by the way?)[EDIT: Ninja'd by Pennywise]

I just don't think publishers are going to completely abandon dedicated devices until they can reliably establish long term successes and it's going to be a growing question over the next five years because you'll be approaching a similar timeframe from NES to PS1. Angry Birds is already five years old.

Do we know which business model SQEX is going to implement with Mevius?

I'm assuming it's f2p like Legends, but I don't think they've announced it.

If it wasn't I imagine it would just be a handheld title or at least also on handhelds.

Like the impression I get is this is them really trying to make something like a somewhat normal FF title actually work on mobile using mobile conventions and business models.

I never said it was going to completely close the gap next year. Just shorten it. I expect the gap to close by the end of 2016.

None of those 3rd party games for the Japanese audience is out yet, so it's impossibly to guess what these games will do for the hardware sales despite most of them being cross-gen games.

PS4 has gotten a lot of third party support (from Japan and west) that is supposed to appeal to Japanese market.

What Japanese third party support did it get this year that appeals to the Japanese market besides the MGS demo and Yakuza Ishin? Everything else is pretty much a handful of late ports coupled with a Compile Heart game, Natural Doctrine, Guilty Gear, and Oneechan Bara.

Except these If we talk only for simultaneous releases Winning Eleven, Dynasty Warriors don't count now or are they small ttltes? I see western support tends to be downplayed a lot as well.

The only Samurai Warriors title on PS4 was a late port, Musou Orochi 2 was a late port, one of the Dynasty Warriors was a late port with the other Dynasty Warriors had a simultaneous release doing shitty on both platforms as it was an an updated version of an updated version that had awful reception and was super buggy.

I'll give you Winning Eleven :D

I had removed Samurai Warriors since I thought it releases the same time. Updated version or non updated version PS4 got a simultaneous release of Dynasty Warriors 8 (and Nobunaga's AmbItion).

I see we are already playing the "this and that doesn´t count" game. Downplaying the actual support it got so far and downplaying western support in particular. Either way just out of curiosity, does Shinji Mikamis The Evil Within count?

Since some months ago I started to doubt Famitsu estimates. They're doing a good job, but there're mistakes and some numbers not accurate enough, if you check other digital reports from companies.
(For example Smash Bros for 3DS).

Denpai Ningen no RPG Free! is unstoppable... over 1.7m downloads already.

Looks like they're gonna keep making more stuff next year... well, makes sense for a F2P game, no surprises here. That being said, they seem to have had some issues lately (they do apologise for them in the article below), hopefully nothing major.

I thought it was known that PS4's 2014 support was bad. 2015 looks a lot lot better but I reckon 2016 could become the bigger year. PS4 could potentially have FFXV, DQ11, GT7, and exclusive Tales and Yakuza and RE7 all come out in one year.

Nice! I hope Furyu could succeed with this project because it seems well-thought and promising.

I feel DKC should have released near Christmas as well. Returns benefitted A LOT from the holiday season.

I had removed Samurai Warriors since I thought it releases the same time. Updated version or non updated version PS4 got a simultaneous release of Dynasty Warriors 8 (and Nobunaga's AmbItion).

Chris, the current week is going to be Week 52, so the last one of the year. Week 1 will have, therefore, three 2014 days (29-30-31 December). How does this work?

Seeing Sumikko Gurashi's success and it's obvious at this time there was a gap in the market which makes it even more explicable that a Kuma Tomo sequel wasn't announced. Hopefully we'll get LTD figures soon for the little bear but it must be well into six figures now.

Last Famitsu update is at 99,283. A 100k LTD is granted.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Thats amazing, 3DS has come a long way considering it launched 2011 without having an eShop. Looking forward to the next portable designed from the ground up for this new gaming environment.

J-Stars Famitsu Vs.

Wii U vs. GC
Code:
week 105 - 2,008,548 / 2,431,847 -423,299
week 106 - 2,037,959 / 2,446,227 -408,268
week 107 - 2,074,356 / 2,461,742 -387,386
the weak sales for GC (Oct.2003) reduced the gap to a level we had in week 100 (-381k); considering the incoming week 52 and 01, the gap will decrease more but after that a rise is expected (GC winter 2003 vs. Wii U Q1 2015)

PS3 vs. PS4
Code:
week 42 - 1,143,798 / 809,751 -334,047
week 43 - 1,160,614 / 873,768 -286,846
week 44 - 1,174,164 / 895,425 -278,379
thanks to a couple of bundles the gap showed a big drop and it has been reduced as week 37 levels (-273k). The incoming weeks will show a decrease, PS3 had 8 weeks with an average 10-15k sold, then PS3 winter 2007 will show how much strong PS4 Q1 will be (PS3 had a 50k average for 8 weeks)

PS4 vs. Wii U
Code:
week 42 - 809,751 / 1,065,742 -255,991
week 43 - 873,768 / 1,071,302 -197,534
week 44 - 895,425 / 1,075,155 -179,730
same here, Wii U had 3k average for 3 weeks, than winter 2013 will come (with the mighty week 55, 119k), but after week 60 a turnaround is expected

3DS 2013 vs. 2014
Code:
week 48 - 4,171,682 / 2,459,956 -1,711,726
week 49 - 4,293,808 / 2,552,848 -1,740,960
week 50 - 4,477,570 / 2,716,292 -1,761,278
week 51 - 4,722,616 / 2,934,704 -1,787,912
Luckly after 2 weeks this depressing comparison will end, but looking at the glass half full : 2012 week 51 LTD 4,722,616 (difference is -2,425,269; AC+NSMB2 >> YW2.5 + Pokemon ORAS + MH4G + Smash + n3DS + n3DS LL)

bonus :
PSV 2014 vs.
2012
Code:
week 50 - 1,077,756 / 637.287 +440,469
week 51 - 1,107,413 / 656,343 +451,070
After all those negative trends it was time for some positive thing ;)

and now, what everyone was waiting for......

XB1 vs. Pippin@Mark
Code:
LTD : 45,143 / 43,000 +2,143
finally XB1 is not the worst selling system in Japan anymore !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
What about Xbox and Xbox one

Ah, I see, thanks. Didn't even think of that.

Anyway, the big 4Gamer.net end of year interview is up... lots of developers talking about their projects in 2015. Anyone willing to look for juicy tidbits?

duckroll was mentioning Toriyama says he has a new game announcing next year, but I'll wait until we get more translations so we don't die in a sea of google translate.

Yeah, there was this as well as Akiko Kuroda (PG) mentionning something about more Bayonetta stuff next year (I believe she said in the latest EDGE that they're working on DLC for Bayo 2), and Uchikoshi (999/VLR) mentionned several projects coming to fruition next year.

But there's way too much stuff, better to wait for actual translations indeed.

Okay sorry but I can't resist one Google Translate:

Square Enix
FINAL FANTASY XIII series director

Motomu Toriyama
Representative works: FINAL FANTASY XIII series

<Question 1> in the released game in 2014, (received a shock or) that it was not the most impressive title

Title: "School Girl Strikers"
This is a girl who above all appeared was good that everyone is felt pretty "character Love".
I light novel is that feeling had been shone as also craftsmanship is there to stick to lightly everywhere also the operation of the application.

Edit:

Also Dragon Age, Monster Strike, Destiny, Ingress, Terra Battle, Yokai Watch, Smash, The Evil Within, and Threes appear to be Japanese developers' favorite games this year (that is not the order of popularity to note, just things I saw very frequently).

Very broad answers overall though, with lots of Western games and mobile titles.

Indeed, the allure of the Google translation is strong when the information is bountiful.

inFamous: Second Son was Katsura Hashino's favorite.

Maybe it's a Monster Hunter sewing game where you learn how to repair pants and make tacky graphic t-shirts and bags.

I was wondering when/if this was going to show up.

I'm not a massive fan of FuRyu, but I've thought this game has looked very good since they first started showing it. I wonder how much of a sales impact it's going to make.

Well, if 11 people have pre-ordered it, that's more sales than all of FuRyu's previous titles combined.
