Why does it seem like some people can log into the ps4 but others can't? Sincere question.
Because PSN is not a single point of entry, it is a lot of regional datacenters, with a lot of sub-divided components managing different things - like how PS3, PSVita and PS4 have different login servers. So while some clusters might be fine, others might be down, etc.
So China is spamming the shit out of PSN basically?
There is a massive botnet in China, due to the sheer volume of infected PCs there, that is currently very active.
But is the pattern similar to the PSN/XBL attacks?
Very hard to tell. We don't have access to the real data of the various darknets that DDoS mitigation companies set up and use for their business, the Norse and Arbor maps are only showing a very tiny snapshot of the action. When things were going on yesterday, you could *really* tell that something was hitting the US hard, for a long time, and it corresponded with some of the previous attacks LizardSquad claimed they were responsible for. But right now, there's just so much going on, it's hard to tell if it's aimed at anything specific, or just... everything.
