LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

Are some still attacking?

There is a lot of botnet activity, higher than normal, but the exact victim is unknown. DDoS attacks are pretty much the ambient radiation of the Internet now, Arbor claims over 2000 attacks happen every day. But right now, there is a lot of action, for whatever reason.

Yet people on this very forum were totally down just recently.

What is it with you? You ask for proof, people provide it and you still fight the fight. My Xbox Live friends list is lit up like a Christmas tree with a ton of people on-line and playing.

I know you are upset that PSN is down and so am I as a new owner and not being able to access my account and download my previously bought digital games or download the DC update. But when there are a lot of people on the forum and they provide proof and others are stating it directly to you that they are having no issues, I am not sure what else you want from everyone?

Sad state of affairs, holy shit.

Yep, still can't log in to PS4. This is going to last all weekend I'm assuming?

If rumor are true that hardware has been affected on sony's end that could be bad. Still, the massive damage was done for everyone getting the new console for Christmas and couldn't set up online. That's a really bad experience for a generation of gamers.

Why does it seem like some people can log into the ps4 but others can't? Sincere question.

Also, is Live still down? Just curious (I don't have an Xbox)

It's most likely luck. The very nature of DDOS hits a server with millions of requests simultaneously. The doorway for entry stays the same, a few will always get through, some will be legit users.

I was trying to call Microsoft to make sure that I can turn on my XBOX ONE for the first time and install system updates since this will be my first time using it..and they said it will take THREE HOURS to talk to someone LOL..Im in California and have no idea if its worth turning on my XBOX ONE now or waiting til tomorrow I dont want to turn it on and have issues because everything is down

I just turned on my PS4 for the first time in a couple of days, logged in and downloaded the FC4 update with no issues. I'm now hooking up my brand new Xbone (seriously, I have the best friends in the world) and we'll see what happens. Whatever my experience is, will be the de facto standard for the rest of the thread. Ha!

I wish I had you luck. I hooked up my new PS4 Xmas morning and here we are at 4:01PST 12/26 and I still cant download the damn update for Drive Club!!!

Because PSN is not a single point of entry, it is a lot of regional datacenters, with a lot of sub-divided components managing different things - like how PS3, PSVita and PS4 have different login servers. So while some clusters might be fine, others might be down, etc.

So China is spamming the shit out of PSN basically?

There is a massive botnet in China, due to the sheer volume of infected PCs there, that is currently very active.

But is the pattern similar to the PSN/XBL attacks?

Very hard to tell. We don't have access to the real data of the various darknets that DDoS mitigation companies set up and use for their business, the Norse and Arbor maps are only showing a very tiny snapshot of the action. When things were going on yesterday, you could *really* tell that something was hitting the US hard, for a long time, and it corresponded with some of the previous attacks LizardSquad claimed they were responsible for. But right now, there's just so much going on, it's hard to tell if it's aimed at anything specific, or just... everything.

Separate authentication and DNS servers for different regions. Even if the attacks have stopped, the DNS servers still have to propagate and flush old or corrupt records.

In some extreme cases, some servers may even need to be rebuilt.
