LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

i'm well aware how this thing work. doesn't make this less frustrating and it doesn't take the blame away from sony since xbl is up. sce as a whole is incompetent in many areas, psn is just one of them.

i don't wanna a suit to tell me there are engineers looking into it, i wanna someone tell me what the fuck is going on and how are they gonna fix it, since they didn't even acknowledge that is a ddos attack.
Im not doubting XBL's infastructure is better than PSN's, thats why XBL is up and PSN isn't. Im with you that this is frustrating as hell but I would not expect Sony to acknowledge a DDOS attack. It would encourage this type of behavior even more.

Where has it been debunked?

there was a thread earlier that was locked by the moderators once it was found out that people looked into and only found a hand full of login. Also the link was a sort of referal link where if people clicked on it the owner would get payed.

Yes but that wasn't Miktar's point. The poster there is trying to use their experience as an indication of the general experience of others/overall network which has highlighted isn't true. Like someone said earlier no one knows the scale of what happened expect MS/Sony.

How many people, percentage-wise, do you see on these last 10 pages complaining about Live being down?

I can play on my One, and my PS4 sits near useless.

I could login with my Vita just fine yesterday, but not today.

This is getting absurd.

Do we know if they're still getting DDOSed or is it still just the fallout of the attack?

I agree with what you said. What I think that some Gaffer's don't understand is that some of us has to plan when we're able to play video games for a extended period of time because of work, family, & life. I work shift work like many, I worked Christmas eve and day like many and my plan was spend time with family and than get knee deep in Destiny to try and get some higher level gear. This shit fucked that up and I lost that time playing with my Uncle.

It's not all that bad because I do have other games like Akiba's Trip to play in the mean time but doesn't change the fact that I (and many others) couldn't do what we intended to do in our time off. I can always play single player games at anytime I'm not working but have to plan a head for multiplayer sessions with family. Now it's always going to be in the back of my mind if these dick holes will do this again. Sony not releasing some form of a statement is also annoying.

I'm really annoyed.

I mean I just expect more from Sony in this situation. It's not too much to ask nor is it entitlement to want your concerns to not only be heard but responded to In proper manner. The moment they stepped into paid service territory they upped the ante and opened themselves up to criticism and bear the responsibility of being held accountable to their customers especially in times like these. Regurgitated Twitter comments doesn't equate to customer service and the fact that they at least to my knowledge haven't publicly addressed this outside of social media is not only worrying but unprofessional. And when I say address it I mean like explain to us what happened and what they're doing to restore service. Like I said I've been patient we all have but the longer this drags on the worse it continues to look for Sony whether this is their fault or not they have our money we don't have our service they have to be held accountable for it.

Man PSN was working for me earlier and now it's down again, annoying as hell having to deal with this all through the holidays.

Question about this. I don't have access to the system I have set as the primary, and won't for about 2 weeks. Is this deactivate all systems process still an option or will I have to have access to the original PS4 I set before I can fix my issue?

That deactivation can only be done every 6 months, and even then the network has to be up for you to activate a new console. I wouldn't risk it. It isn't going to do any good until the network is back up and stable.

The best way to Activate/Deactivate is to do it from the console.

You know what pisses me off more?

All the publicity these kids are getting, national TV here in Spain not only used the term "hackers", but also they mentioned directly Lizard Squad, I know the right to inform and all that, but they are getting the kind of attention they seek.

Unknown. Nobody is claiming responsibility for any large botnet action, and while we can see DDoS attacks hitting the US, we don't know if they're aimed at PSN. My guess would be this is still just fallout from the attack.

Man, I'd love it if they caught these guys and sent them to federal prison for the rest of their lives. Make sure they're with the general pop too, and see how many "lulz" they have there.

I thought people could log on using the 1473 MTU thingy. Does that not work anymore as well?

Fuck you DC is better! *shoves*

*tags* I bet your ONEs and PS4s dream at night about having graphics like these:

What else do you want to know? I've been on vacation during all of this mess but my friend's kid that I'm staying with has been playing CODAW since yesterday on his ps4.

It sucks that some can't get on but it's not like they can say when you individually will be back on.

Also doesn't Sony have to restore service to many more customers than MS. So even now if the same number of Xbox and PS customers have been restored to normal service there would still be many more PS owners who don't have access.

I don't mind how long it is out for. I would just like to know what is causing how long it is taking. Be it another DDoS or the DDoS caused some damage etc etc.

I encourage anyone who knows one of these pieces of shit to go to their house and beat them to death with their own god damn keyboard.

If I found one of these dog raping shit eating butthole tossing fucks in my day to day travels I would tortrue them for 3 days straight, film the whole thing, then release out into the wild so the other little needle dicks wisen up and get a life.

While they're a bunch of petulant little brats, you come off as a full-blown sociopath. It's frustrating for all of us, but maybe you can use the off time to read a book. Might help expand that vocabulary of yours.

Seems more like a fallout from the attack because XBL has up for a lot of people and the last time they did an attack on a similar scale the same thing happened.(Took a while to come back) and add in holiday season influx.

Personally: I think Sony is still doing maintenance on a variety of services and infrastructure that were affected by the DDoS. I don't think there is a DDoS going on currently. That Sony is taking this long to bring PSN back up to full speed could mean a variety of things: the damage was worse than we thought, or the infrastructure was worse than we thought, or they're paranoid since the Sony Hack and are checking for intrusion attempts that might of happened during the DDoS. We really don't know, and I doubt Sony will admit to anything other than "technical issues". It's rare for a corporation to admit weakness, since it goes against their personal branding.

It doesn't help that it's Christmas, which add its own host of problems.

Probably a fine mixture of all of the above.

So theoretically if there are double the PS4's trying to reconnect at once as X1's, would it take about twice as long bounce back after the attacks?

YES

Xbox Live recovered quicker from the DDoS and seems to have restored most functionality, though some issues remain.

NO

PSN is NOT working properly yet. Some people do report some success, but it depends on the system (PS3, Vita), timing (Sony is randomly bringing services down for "maintenance"), or location (PSN is spread out across multiple datacenters for different regions, so one might be up while another is down).

YES

Microsoft has better infrastructure and DDoS mitigation, as has been proven a few times this year during similiar attacks.

YES

Sony's third-party DDoS mitigator wasn't up to the task, and Sony's PSN infrastructure is still Swiss cheese, even though by now Sony should really have improved, especially in light of the original PSN Outage and Hack.

NO

I don't care if this makes MS better than Sony, keep console warrior crap to yourself.

YES

It's Christmas, which means a flood of new consoles and accounts adds its own mini-DDoS effect, compounding issues.

NO

There is no KNOWN data breach or intrusion attempt, so we don't know if user details were compromised during the DDoS. DDoS is not "hacking", but it can be used to hide legitimate hacking attempts. But there is no evidence currently to suggest that it happened.

So long as TLoU is one of the 3 free games they're going to offer, all is forgiven.

NO

There has been no OFFICIAL statement made from Sony regarding any free games or PS+ time to make up for the downtime.

DOUBT IT

Any twitter accounts other than LizardMafia you see online, and people being interviewed in articles or on BBC, aren't likely to be the actual people who instigated the several DDoS attacks this year under the name of LizardSquad.

Isn't the whole argument here that Live was much quicker at fixing this?

Much quicker. They have their shit together over there. Not faulting Sony for going down due to the attack because based on what many said here, few sites could withstand this large of a ddos attack. Right now I'm pissed about their inability to recover from the attack and the lack of communication.
