Krispy Kreme is overrated

Gotta ask for one that's fresh out of the machine and unglazed. Then boom, you just ate a savoury cloud. Here in the Greater Toronto Area, they have one last retail spot open where the deep frying machine is behind the front desk. The process is mesmerizing. Just like watching a shawarma mwat tray slowly rotate.

Much better than the stuff tim hortons calls donuts.

Krispy Kremes are way too sweet for my taste. Doughnuts are one of the most delicious foods there is. It's fried dough, for fuck's sake! There's no reason to completely douse them with a sugary glaze.

Ask them for unglazed donuts fresh off the line. They actually taste better.

I'm shocked, <insert name> chain store is not as good as <insert name of a local shop that no one has heard of before>!?

Krispy Kreme is way too sweet. I like traditional UK donuts - freshly cooked with a little sugar on. Or Mr Donuts old fashioned is godlike.

Oh, never though of this - will give it a try.

I should do that next time I'm near one. I've never even thought of it.

I did get my local doughnut shop to make me a batch of crullers without any glaze, and they were heavenly.

Never got the big deal about Krispy Kreme donuts. They aren't bad, but they're no better than any other donut you'd find at your typical mom and pop donut shop. They're fine, but not really of note.

If someone can point to better donuts in Australia I will HAPPILY give them a try.

If you're in Sydney, you can find some great doughnuts in lots of places, you just have to look. There's a small bakery close to my place which I get doughnuts and other pastries from quite often! God-tier stuff.

soft krispy kremes are godly. Crack in donut form.

It literally is. Figuratively speaking.

That combination of sugar and fat is almost perfectly balanced to fool the body's self regulating systems that tell you you've had enough. Eat just sugar and you'll naturally stop after a while same with just fat. But together they are crack. And a Krispy Kreme original glazed is the perfect ratio

No arguent there, Dennis. I think they're okay and all, but nothing I'd go out of my way to get. Around me, I find that Shoprite grocery stores in NJ make somw fantastic donuts.

It's not great but you did it wrong. Get the regular glazed donut and warm it up in a microwave for 5~7 seconds before you eat it.

That said, donuts suck and are a waste of money.

bump for great donut justice

So this time I bought a still-warm donut with chocolate frosting and chopped pecan nuts - not from Krispy Kreme but from the Harris Teeter supermarket here in Nashville. And this thing was great!

Being the greedy bastard that I am I couldn't wait to get home so I ate the damn thing as I was walking from the store. I promptly turned around and walked back to buy some more.

I guess donuts can be really good after all. I clap at thee, America.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.

Look at that, you're already becoming an American.

This is when you go. Get a dozen straight off the line.

You didn't even get a hot original glazed donut.

As far as I'm concerned, that's the same as not even going to Krispy Kreme in the first place.

Yeah I never saw the big deal. Every local place I've been to is better, and there's only one Krispy Kreme in my city. On the opposite end. No reason to ever go to one.

Some people love Krispy Kreme, and I can tolerate a glazed one sometimes, but the glazing is way too much for me. It's like some sort of greasy, gross soft sugar mess.

I like cake-style donuts. Dunkin Donuts has both soft squishy chocolate-frosted-on-the-top, and cake, firm, chocolate-frosted-on-the-top donuts. I like the cake style because it actually feels like you're eating something that isn't dripping in grease, mashing in your hand, or coated entirely in glaze.

i tried the regular glazed ones and they were delicious, no need to even consider another when you have found perfection in baked form.

I usually do the mom and pop doughnut shop instead of the chain places. They usually have a larger selection and better customer service.

Granted, I usually just get boring long johns though.

DD's is king.

DD donuts are honestly some of the worst donuts of any place around here. Grocery stores> Friehofers>Dunkin Donuts donuts.

Hell, everything is whack at DD actually. Their coffee tastes like chemicals. Their bagels are awful, flavorless, and underbaked.

Sucks that my relatives gave me so many gift cards to the place.

Krispy Kreme over Shipley's for me. Neither is bad, but Shipley's IMO is just too doughy.

Never had much else except from local doughnut shops.

Had DD for the first time recently and have to agree with this, utter trash. If you can't make a decent glazed donut you have no business making donuts and sure as hell don't deserve hype for it.

The only Krispy Kreme I actually like is the normal glazed ring doughnut. The other ones, especially the filled ones, are all just too much really.

Now a Greggs Jam Doughnut on the other hand...that's just god-tier doughnuttery right there.

I remember the first time I've tasted KK. I was hanging out with some friends on January 1 a couple of years ago and they wanted to eat those donuts, I had to be in like for line 40 minutes (here in Puerto Rico there's res like 2 stores in the entire country, so lines are crazy) I bought a 12 glaze donuts, went home. Too a bite of the first one and said "ok" and put it down, leaved the donuts in the house and didn't bother to have any more. Way too sweet for me.

I agree. I only eat donuts 1-2 times a year.

If I do eat donuts I get:

Classic sprinkled

A Krispy Kreme openned like a decade ago in the town I lived in and the media and public went donuts about it. I couldn't enjoy them. They were way too sweet. They went out of business after just a couple of years, I think.

Just give me a classic sprinkled donut any day.
