One of my fav beta plays. Used Spartan abilities to the fullest.

Was behind in a firefight and used a ground pound to get back in it and Win

Bonus extermination

Nice clips mate, especially like the non-action movement at the start of clip #2 - sprint + jump + thruster + clamber. It shows how fluid the movement is around the map design. The exterm medal being purple instead of red feels weird.

I'm too tired to play tonight and I feel like I'm missing out.

Haven't felt like that in ages.

EDIT: I did boot it up after I got off work earlier, but decided not to play, does anyone know what the 103 MB update is? I've been playing it everyday since it released and I downloaded the previous update, I just don't know what this one is.

Has anyone seen this yet? I found it browsing waypoint looking for update notes:

First time seeing it. Seems like Locke will be the focus over Chief for the majority of the campaign like all the leaks said. I think we'll definitely play as both, but Locke will get the Lions share of the time.

Though I wish they'd drop the generic buzzwords/taglines. "A mystery that threatens the entire galaxy". Reminds me of Halo 4, "ancient evil awakens, enemies armed with deadly technology, universe will never be the same" etc.

Eh, I don't know if it means that he'll get all the limelight, I feel like they're just trying to make people aware that when they pick Halo 5 up this fall that it won't be center focused on the Chief and that Locke is a major character now.

I'd be much more interested in the game if this wasn't the case. Sorry, 3v4i.

Well, obviously the Chief is going to be the main focus. He has to be, he's the Chief. One day they'll kill him off and then they'll focus on a new dude but until then it's Chief and now Locke as well.

Honestly, I'm still holding out hope that Chief is going to be the start of more than half the total campaign time. I need me some Chief action.

I don't really understand why people want to play as the Chief so much. Dude's boring.

It's not that I want to play as the Chief. It's that Locke is fucking terrible.

I wouldn't mind playing as Elites, the ones established in H1->H3 that is. Maybe some flashback to play as the Wars Arbiter.

I don't like any of 343i's character additions yet so yeah... Lasky was a nice guy though.

Locke has potential. He's has an interesting task and it seems he'll have some personal dilemmas to deal with. The problem so far is that his introduction in Nightfall wasn't noteworthy and Colter's performance was quite poor in those H2A cutscenes.

I'm also completely fine playing another character in a Halo game, it's just that the character has to be strong. The last time a strong character was introduced in a Halo game was H2.

.

Agreed. No way Locke won't be better
someway he will suck more
.

Just give me one Arbiter level 343 pls

Rtas or Wars Arbiter works too for me.

I didn't like him in H2A. He came across as a bit of a dick when the Elites were willing to take him+pals onto their ship and hear them out.
Nightfall though, he lacked presence compared to some of the other guys. But I could at least take him seriously, at least a bit. Which is good, means there is potential for down the road.

Should have gone with Palmer. She could have found Chief halfway through and gently remonstrated him by calling him an egghead. Chief would see the error of his absconding ass ways then for sure.

re: Mix, that "with a mystery that threatens the galaxy" description has been on either Wikipedia or Halopedia for a while. Can't remember which.

I would drop anything for a Light Rifle. But a DMR for a BR? Hell naw. DMR is better.

Hardlight.

two can play that game motherfucker

Master Chief would tell her to step on a Lego, after that "I thought you'd be taller" line.

He also denied her handshake in the Epilogue and if he knew what she did to Halsey, he would probably tell her to die in a fire. Allthough those Spartan Ops events happen like 6 months afterwards.

Nobody likes Palmer. That's probably 343i's intention.

The beta is the best halo since CE imo.

It scares me to say it, but Halo 5 feels like a real return to form. Yes, there are elements to the game that initially caused some seriously raised eyebrows....but it works.

The new movement options suit the game, the speed and TTK is vastly improved, and for all the whinging about ADS, it's literally a cosmetic change for the most part. Amazing to see that auto's are viable again, and level design seems thoughtful and well out together at this point.

It's all very positive. I want to play more and more.

Definitely the best Halo since 3. Blows Reach and 4 away. Still needs a few fixes ie no killcam, flinch, 1 grenade on spawn, etc.

Personally I love the ranking system. Although I began at Gold 3, I dropped down to Gold 1 and made my way back up to Onyx 2. Play with friends people, makes the game so much better when you have teammates who talk.

Eh...I'm inclined to disagree. I think the gameplay is good, but the overall game, at least what they're allowing us to play, is boring as hell.

Team slayer so far is basically running around or waiting around for that matter, on these maps for the announcer to announce when the one or two power weapons will drop...then camping them and fighting till they drop. Rinse and repeat this. This is not what Halo was, especially a game like CE.

To be honest, how are we suppose to give solid community feedback when we're not even being given the full game during the beta? There's not a single powerup on these maps. There's two at the max for power weapons...and all the weapons on the map except for the orange rifle (sorry i dont know its official name) are human weapons.

Last night I was playing a few more games then I got so bored, I went back to MCC Halo 2 Annv. Played some matches of it and then switched to Halo CE in MCC...light years better than Halo 5 in my opinion.

If all people enjoy is the actual slaying part of the game...not sure how that's any different than playing a typical COD deathmatch game...where there are zero weapons on the map and nothing to control.

343 keep saying this is Arena combat...where's the "Arena" part of Halo 5? Other than it being arena-style maps...the gameplay itself isn't even remotely close to what I would call an "arena" shooter.

You look at Quake, Unreal Tournament, Painkiller, Halo CE, and other arena shooters, they all share the same principles which is controlling and timing powerups, power weapons, items and the map itself.

Only one of those things is taking place right now in Halo 5, and to me, that's what makes Halo 5 a snooze-fest.

I'm probably in the minority though with that opinion, but hey, I'm just being honest.

while i like smart scope, and its visual change, i DO NOT like that 343 seems intent on offering virtually all the weapons (all except BR/DMR in the beta thus far) some sort of alternate fire mode which gives pretty big advantages. it places to much of an emphasis on playing the game from scope ala cod.

Yeah - it really forces you to use the new default controls as well. With the ADS on the left trigger you automatically zoom back in after being knocked out of scope. If you try to use traditional Halo controls (click to zoom) you have to re click to activate ADS each time your knocked out of scope.

It's a huge disadvantage to play with standard controls now as ADS is necessary (especially on automatics) due to the increased accuracy / tighter spread and the weighting of head shot damage with the automatics.

If I could remove one "feature" of the game it would be ADS. Followed by Clamber. Followed by Sprint.

I don't hate the BR, but sometimes I feel like gameplay was more varied and fun with AR starts, and since the AR is finally a viable weapon it works well in H5. There were plenty of BRs to pick up on the maps, but if you weren't near one you are encouraged to try out other weapons and adapt your strategy to what is available. Problem with BR being a jack of all trades is that you really have less incentive to change up your gameplay style or swap out weapons when you spawn with it. When I spawn with BR in my hands, I usually die with a BR in my hands pretty much the entire game, and it can get stale. Can't say the same for AR starts.

The BR is probably my favorite weapon in the game, but I feel like getting it by default takes away from its majesty. Also, it's fun to play with Bra when not everyone has one.

BR starts are better for competive play than AR starts -> Ranked playlists should be BR starts

No motion tracker is better for competive play than motion tracker -> Ranked playlists should be no motion tracker

No motion tracker would just be the pro playlist. Asking for no motion tracker in the base game is as delusional as asking for no sprint. It's even MORE delusional.

I don't think they will remove sprint. But there's no way they are removing motion tracker. It's been in EVERY Halo.

Best we can hope for is a change to it. Make it CoD style/Destiny style

You're probably right but situation where Pros and normal Ranked players play with completely different settings is not good for an e-sport.

it AUTOMATICALLY re-scopes after a descope when you hold left trigger? i never even tried the default controls, but that is massive bullshit. why wouldnt they make you release and repress to mimic the right stick better!?

this probably explains how others are so dominant with the autos and they are only OK when i use them. i'm predominantly unscoped in a battle for the reasons you mention and they must be going in and out of scpe and getting a bigger advantage with the bullet spread because of it. again, super lame and no reason for it to behave this way.

Yeah - it becomes really jarring when watching game video as the Scope is activating and deactivating continuously.

It's a HUGE advantage when using the AR or SMG to have controls with zoom on left trigger.

Eh I agree but its been like that since Halo 2.

There was a Team Slayer playlist like where it was SMG's or BR starts.
And there was a Team Hardcore, BR, No radar. If i recall, MLG Halo 2 and Team Hardcore were almost the same.

Halo 3 had Team Slayer with AR's or BR's. I don't remember a hardcore playlist but they did have an MLG one which was significantly different.

Halo reach had team slayer with DMR or AR. They also had slayer pro which was DMR no radar. And the MLG playlist was wildly different.

I want the regular game and the HCS gametypes to be similar. I don't think radar being the only difference is too bad.

Hopefully it was just missing from the beta... but if we can just vote for AR's or BR's it would be a lot better. People in the higher ranks will tend to vote BR, people in lower ranks will tend to vote AR.

I always thought Amplified and Onslaught were one of the best maps in Halo 3 MLG.

If we get multiple maps that size (which also play good), that would be awesome.

I just don't understand the need of oversized maps, even with Sprint.

Those were horrible maps.

All they came down to was pure setup/map control with BRs. Not a single thing to fight for on the map other than pure random positioning based on each respawn.

Seems like many of you have completely lost what Halo used to be.

You guys really think Halo 5 in its current state is true Halo?
