Resident Evil HD Remaster confirmed for PS3/PS4/360/XB1/PC

enigmatic_alex44

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
Anyone know if this will be $19.99 in Canada on PSN? (PS4 version). I've played and loved Resident Evil: CV, 4, 5, Revelations and 6 and enjoyed them all. Never experienced the original. I was all hyped for this until I found out it was digital only, but if it's that cheap I might bite.

I can't contain my excitement I never played this version before

Its the best horror game ever made and most likely ever will be made.

Im just amazed out how good it looks, besides preferring Chris' modern redesign there was really not much that needed fixing.

However I really wish we got new voice acting but thats also just taste as I prefer modern Chris, Jill(well CV & 5's) Rebecca and Wesker's

That fucking water sample puzzle though...it's not impossible, but too much trial and error.

I could never get behind the clocktower stone puzzle but the water sample puzzle is incredibly easy once you get it.

You have to understand how the three rows in the middle correspond to the upper row. The pieces you move around in the middle row will always appear in the upper row from the bottom up. And short pieces will always be stacked on top of long ones.

Take the second slot from the left for example.

You have one long piece in A -> In the upper row it's now set at the very buttom while the short piece set in row B is on top of it.

In the third slot from the left you have short pieces in rows A and B and a long slot in C. These three pieces are arranged exactly like that in the upper row but even if you had the long piece set in row B the upper row would look like that because as I said, long pieces always appear at the very bottom.

Hope that helps.

I always hoped this day would come... Man, I cannot WAIT to have a playable copy of REmake again.

Edit: I don't have a rig capable of running Dolphin yet or I would definitely would have revisited this sooner.

Am I crazy hoping Capcom does a cross promotion with Revelations 2?
"Buy REmake, get S.T.A.R.S. Chris & Jill for Raid Mode"

I will be shocked if Barry's S.T.A.R.S. costume isn't an unlock already.

PC is the only version which supports 60fps, so there's that. Certain parts of the game will be 30fps regardless though (like every pre-rendered cutscene).

I'll personally say PC version will have a huge bonus by having skippable door animations (that's assuming it is doable via modding. I'll be mashing my head against the keyboard until it happens).

Do we know or not if there's any silly in-game lock preventing resolution from going above 1080P on PC?

Rendering above 1920x1080 will only increase model IQ, the backgrounds will more than likely stay the same considering they were all probably redone for 1920x1440 resolutions.

Yeah, this is a situation where going crazy with SSAA until it looks smooth but "soft" would be the most desired.

So has it been confirmed yet if the PC version is the superior version here?

Sounds like that's the only one that's going to be 1080p plus 60 fps.

I replayed RE1 earlier today for the heck of it. I played through the DS version in Rebirth mode. This is the first time I've played it in 9 years, and also the first time I played it since I played REmake for the first time.

Aside from a few clever new puzzles, Rebirth mode is kinda horrible. Way too many enemies are thrown into the mix, some puzzles are just annoying touch screen gimmicks, and the first person knife battles get old really quickly.

Going back to RE1 makes it obvious how drastically better REmake is in every single way. I think the only thing I like better about RE1 is the puzzle for the door to the j-volt room (which becomes trivial if you know about the hint for the puzzle anyway). Otherwise, I can't think of any mechanic or puzzle which are better in RE1. The inclusion of crimson heads especially makes REmake so much more interesting to play.

I'm tempted to replay RE2 one of these days (I haven't played that game since 98 or 99), or maybe play through RE3 for the first time (tried it back in 2000 or so but I didn't get far into it). I wonder how well those hold up compared to REmake.

I hate the water trap puzzle in RE3. Not fun at all. Heck I dislike most of the puzzles in RE3. Not because of their random element but because they kill the pacing more than anything. I shouldn't need to take 15min to do the water puzzle.

No, there are many things that the original does differently than REmake for some people to consider it better or at least better in different regards.

Things that instantly pop into my head are
- Opening and Live Action cast
- More campy and feels like a 80's or early 90's horror movie
- Different script and VO's (I still prefer the original. REmakes is technically better but is still tremendously awful. If I have to pick between two awful versions I'll pick the fun one.)
- Character run speeds feel smoother (REmakes feel more realistic) and gunplay is better (Yes I fully believe that).
- Game can be completed faster (some might feel it as a plus)
- Easier (rendered kinda moot now but the NGC version's default was much harder than the original)
- Pure Nostalgia

Okay I have to say something because this is the second time you've done this.

V-JOLT! It's not J-VOLT, it's V-JOLT!

I disagree with all of those points, but I think we're approaching the game from different points of views. One huge reason why I prefer REmake is that it is more challenging, and I like the ways they made it challenging. RE1 rarely feels threatening unless you start wasting supplies (and even so, it's very easy to avoid zombies thanks to the large hallways), while REmake makes you think a lot more about how you navigate the mansion because of the crimson heads.

-Don't have to burn zombies.

It makes me a little bit sad to see many people dislike the crimson heads as I feel that's the single best addition to REmake. Maybe that's the reason why it was never re-used in the series.

You don't have to burn them if you're good either.

joking

Oddly enough I don't mind the crimson heads.
But I was never a fan of having to run and get fuel for the lighter.
Honestly would have just preferred a random element to Crimson Heads.

The series just got super linear and that mechanic really only shined when backtracking. Crimson heads were an incredible addition to the game, can't even imagine someone looking at them as a negative.

Exactly. That's why people can prefer one over the over.

I never burn bodies. It's a complete waste of time and item space. I would rather take my chances dodging or just straight up taking a hit than burning bodies.

So pumped!

I was going to Steam this one, but nah. 60 FPS does NOT matter for this game. A controller does. I'll do the PS4 version.

I love this game. The only shitty thing about it is the limited inventory. People will defend the "management" but I thought it was illogical and slapped on a few unnecessary, tensionless jogs to the storage crates. Blah.

what does the Steam game not have native controller support just like most modern games? You can use Xbox controller or DS4 on these games.

And yes, you can also sit on your comfy couch and do it too.

maybe some germanGaffer is wondering, why you cant preorder the game.

in the forum, some sony community-guy said, there will be no pre-order for the game. but if you buy it in the first few weeks, it will still be cross-buy. no word on the theme though.

I still go back to the original for the reasons I highlighted. I don't think its anything better then what REmake does though, just different and fun in their own way.

One way I think the original beats REmake is how the storyline and cutscenes you see changed based on what you do and where you go. It does in REmake too but it seems to me its at more obvious set points. I could post a single screenshot of how to decide the fate of Barry in REmake. I couldn't do that with RE1 as its based on your actions in multiple events. My first play of RE1 I didn't even see the famous Jill sandwich scene as it only happens if you head there the first chance you get, if you don't then he wont save you in that room and you have to solve it with the broken shotgun instead. I think you instead next meet Barry in an upstairs room. I liked that system as it added replay value.

Edit: Oh and in my opinion the original soundtrack is better then the remade one for most of the tracks.

It's been ages since I've played the first western release which was appearently quite a bit harder, maybe it's true there but in the DC's original mode or the original japanese release Yawn takes no more than 4 shotgun hits during the first battle and 5 during the second, you can just stand still and aim for his head the whole time. The spider boss takes three magnum shots or just one single flame grenade. So I can't even agree there. They're about the same difficultywise.

I don't know if either the Saturn* port or PS Directors Cut(the only versions I have played) were harder then the original Japanese version but I'm pretty sure they took more shots then that.. I think Plant 42 is the most obvious one though, it goes down very easily in REmake even without V-Jolt.

*I do know the Saturn version is harder in one respect as it has 2 Tyrants in the lab.

This is game is the best start for anyone ever playing the RE series.

You might think its a dumb comment cause its obviously the first game, but you'd be surprised at some of the questions you get in regards to where to start in the series
