MS sacrificied profits and kinda bought market shares offering free games, making the XBox a cheaper alternative to the PS4. It helped Ms find a market among a population that heavily favors the PS4 so far.I don't understand this part

France again proving themselves as one of the few EU countries worth a shit

Yeah coz what we have in the UK - COD and Fifa domination is much better....
Stop encouraging Nintendo making GOTY contenders, it's getting harder to lol at the Wii U.I love you France, but you really need to sort this shit out. Stop encouraging Nintendo.
Thank goodness we have some sense here in the UK.
Exactly, my man. That's what I'm saying.Yeah coz what we have in the UK - COD and Fifa domination is much better....
It is hard to understand why it's constantly and comfortably outsold by the other two consoles, and I mean that sincerely.Stop encouraging Nintendo making GOTY contenders, it's getting harder to lol at the Wii U.
2015 will be another great year
Shhh. We're not supposed to point that out.Yeah i am getting tired of people saying UK is the only place which only plays fifa & cod as well When they are the top 2 games in France as well!
I love you France, but you really need to sort this shit out. Stop encouraging Nintendo.
Thank goodness we have some sense here in the UK.
That was US only though. We had some good deals in europe but nowhere near as crazy as the US.
It is hard to understand why it's constantly and comfortably outsold by the other two consoles, and I mean that sincerely.
I guess it's because the people that give the slightest fuck about GOTYs make up a tiny minority of the people that actually buy consoles and videogames. That and the fact that the library is rather narrow in comparison to the competition. No sports games, no GTA, no CoD, no audience.
France being one of the most favorable markets for Nintendo shows how big of a failure Wii U is. 515,000 units sold in 2 years is nothing to write home about.
Wii U can't even keep up with Xbox 360 which despite having an atrocious start it still sold 55,000 units more during the same timeframe. And future comparisons will only look worse for Nintendo's home console because Xbox 360 managed to sell 570,000 additional units in 2008 and 560,000 in 2009.
Number 1 in Japan too. Go Nintendo.
Good. Show those Brits what an awful taste they have.
hmm
France top 10
01. FIFA 15 (1.265 million)
02. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
03. Grand Theft Auto V
04. Watch Dogs
05. FIFA 14
06. Minecraft
07. Tomodachi Life
08. Super Smash Bros.
09. Call of Duty: Ghosts
10. Assassin's Creed Unity
UK top 10
1. FIFA 15
2. CALL OF DUTY: ADVANCED WARFARE
3. GRAND THEFT AUTO V
4. DESTINY
5. WATCH DOGS
6. MINECRAFT: XBOX EDITION
7. FIFA 14
8. FAR CRY 4
9. CALL OF DUTY: GHOSTS
10. ASSASSIN'S CREED UNITY
UK has Far Cry 4 and Destiny, France has Tomodachi and Smash Bros, the other 8 are the same (well, Minecraft would certainly go up if the Xbox and Playstation versions were combined, but that doesn't really make a difference)
if anything, this means France likes FIFA slightly more!
I wish some of that would carry over to the UK, sometimes I feel like I'm the only Nintendo fan here, solemnly playing my violin as the ship sinks into the abyss.

It's really just the UK where Nintendo is doing absolutely horrible. But Nintendo always had problems in the UK, so that's not really all that surprising either.
well no, they have generally struggled there outside the DS/Wii boom, which given the audience that went in and out of their hands it's obvious why
From the 3DS competition on the same audience, to Wii U terrible post launch with games delays, etc. there are lots of factors to consider. It is hard to understand why it's constantly and comfortably outsold by the other two consoles, and I mean that sincerely.

woah hey nowI love you France, but you really need to sort this shit out. Stop encouraging Nintendo.

Encouraging Nintendo? what do you mean by that, so its a bad thing a country is buying more Wii U games than another?I love you France, but you really need to sort this shit out. Stop encouraging Nintendo.

.
It's so interesting that France is so receptive to Japanese stuff. When I visited once there were so many Japanese comic books in news agents. Is there some reason behind this? Clearly some sort of relationship with Nintendo doing the guides in the Louvre and Miyamoto receiving the Légion d'honneur
I'm not sure where the myth that Nintendo outside of NDS/Wii has always done poorly in the UK compared to the rest of Europe has come from. Nintendo's UK hardware share of Europe has been pretty consistent;
Hardware: UK Sales / PAL Sales (UK %)
NES: >1m / 8.56m (>12%)
SNES: ~1.7m / 8.58m (~20%)
N64: ~1.6m / 6.75m (~24%)
GCN: ~1.2m / 4.77m (~25%)
WII: ~8.3m / 39.94m (~21%)
GBY: 6.63m / 42.16m (~16%)
GBA: >4.55m / 22.91m (>20%)
NDS: >10m / 61.09m (>16%)
This would be 2007 for the 360 right? Seems somewhat feasible that Halo 3 did comparable to MK8/Smash.
The point is despite Wii U troubles Nintendo still managed to have great numbers on the software front ( #1 publisher by the way ). Maybe you should bring the software performance of the 360 in France that year the 360 sold 55 K more units, Not sure a title performed as well as Mario Kart 8 or Smash U did in 2014...
Indeed, for Nintendo relative to its competitors UK is the weakest market, even below the Americas. Which is quite different from continental Europe to say the least. It's really just the UK where Nintendo is doing absolutely horrible. But Nintendo always had problems in the UK, so that's not really all that surprising either.
- Nintendo was #1 publisher with almost 4.5m games sold in 2014, second year in a row. EA and Ubisoft are #2 and #3

I wasn't accounting for any specific system but speaking generally. But if you want to discuss specifics, what is Wii U's market share in the UK as the point of reference?whoa hold up
Wii U % in France: 25.36% (likely to be the highest country in Europe)
Wii U % in Spain (through October, which means it's likely fallen since then as PS4 eats away at everything else): 19.61%
Wii U % in US: 22.08%
and something tells me Vita's horrific performance in the US means that ratio is straight up higher over here, so I don't think so
That's a good start. Wii owners are still buying lots of Just Dance, Mario Kart and NSMB. The real transition will happen when they can get that Wii U accessory for less than 199€.As I said in the other thread, that Smash bundle must have worked well for them. It's 229€ at most retailers, which is a fairly aggressive price.
It's a basic pack but facially, that's way lower than the usual 279€/299€ bundles like the Mario Kart one.
No, anime has been big here since the 70's so we're more receptive to anything japanese I guess. We're the second biggest consumer of manga behind Japan.
France again proving themselves as one of the few EU countries worth a shit
Nintendo has always been very strong in France. One of the reason is that the manga and japanimation are huge. Naruto is always the best selling book when a new volume comes out.
well I meant relative to France, not to the rest of Europe, I know Nintendo is even more invisible than Microsoft in "tier 2" areas
but I'll be using this next time (where did you get all the UK figures from though?)
I guess you're not talking about Nintendo or Naruto but Japanese appreciation.I've always wondered why that is. What's the history behind it? I know it goes back at least as far as the late 19th century.
I'll be honest: I refrained from buying the Smash bundle during the holiday period because I kind of expected it to see it drop to 199 during the usual January sales. That's really the next step, though. That's a good start. Wii owners are still buying lots of Just Dance, Mario Kart and NSMB. The real transition will happen when they can get that Wii U accessory for less than 199.
