Just got an email that my order was canceled as well, and I only ordered one handheld.
I guess they oversold?
A scalper did say the reason for the cancellations was because they didn't have enough stock but to think the situation is so bad...
I have to wonder how many Best Buy thought they were getting? The Pikachu XL would be the number I would have aimed for (that was famous for living up to the word limited) but at the same time Best Buy might have been thinking "if we say we have a million then that means we take orders away from our competitors which is more useful than not annoying our customers, heck most of them probably have our 10%-off super reward card".
I really do want to know if someone knew or should have known better. I remember Amazon UK letting many people down on The Sky (limited to 1000) and Hyrule Historia Limited Edition (limited to 4000) because they never bothered to put a stock limit on the item so they kept getting pre-orders piled on due to virtue of being the only place with any in stock. Thankfully in both of those cases non-limited editions were made so the wound was eventually healed somewhat but the loss of trust remained.
But personally I hope Nintendo sits down and asks itself who it is serving with these systems? Like I said when New 3DS faceplates were revealed; this should mean the end of limited edition systems but of course no faceplates on New 3DS XL happened and other silly things like the Ambassador System in Europe, some Pokemon stuff in Japan and no New 3DS in America.
I really don't care for the "well its limited" argument. Consumers have no problem getting a phone with a cover in a wide variety of designs.
