Bestbuy just cancelled by new 3DS XL Majora's Mask order

Damn, that sucks, OP. :/ Stores shouldn't take pre-orders unless they have the exact number of units they will receive. So they don't have to do this bullshit. I pre-ordered this from GameStop today and I hope something like this doesn't happen to me or anyone else.

Sure, but they were probably told they were getting it. All these different retailers are having the same issues with Nintendo products. I blame NoA for supply issues.

I used a $200 giftcard, and like an idiot, I threw the gift card away. I hope they can maybe send me a new one...

They can just call 1-888-BEST BUY.

BB has done the same with my order. I called CS and the guy said they are getting many calls on this. He advised that "BB is not recieving this item at all and they are doing mass cancellation of all orders"

Just checked, mine cancelled too. Ordered right when they went up and only ordered one. No email but it's cancelled when I check order status.

Duuuuude this happened to me with some shit with BB. it ended up with a 45 min conversation, had to talk to 3 people and got a physical one in the mail 10 days later.

Can't believe people are actually defending this kind of practice. If Nintendo intended to only release a very very small batch, they should have done this through Club Nintendo and/or explained this to fans at least a week in advance so that true fans could have at least tried to get one.

Also not everyone is able to check the internet every second. Some people hold jobs, have families and lives to live.

Are the people defending this the ones who were actually lucky to get one? Maybe you're defending this because you plan on turning around and profiting off of it via resales?

Also I feel like Nintendo should address the legion of upset and disappointed fans in regards to the shortage. Say something to try and apologize or calm people down.

Oddly enough I wasn't even planning on buying one of these as I don't have the money for one so I'm not sour because I didn't get one. I'm sour because I think the entire thing was handled extremely poorly.

Stop. Everyone knew they were going to be announced during the direct, and everyone knew they would most likely go up for sale right after. The direct was announced 24 hours ahead of time. People with jobs, school, whatever can take a sick day or just realize their life priorities do not allow them to get one. A Limited console does not have to be attainable to everyone and people need to stop acting like they are entitled to a limited item.

But, it is bullshit that Best Buy oversold the item or sold it when they had no real allocation whatsoever. Shitty on their part.

So, "Limited" means "Limited as long as it's enough for me to get one at my own leisure"?

I applaud Nintendo for making a limited item truly limited. As a dedicated fan, I was both to order both without a hitch. Shame on Best Buy for overselling if they didn't know/overestimated their allocation.

Not all "dedicated fans" are able to be online for the random and very brief window when these items are put up for sale. I missed out on the GameStop pre-order because I was at work and wasn't able to even try to get it. Thankfully I got one from Best Buy only because I was lucky enough to be online for the 30 minutes it was available and only because I happened to see someone tweet that it was up. Not very fair to the many fans who want one but have no idea when they go on sale and aren't able to purchase it because they have jobs/social lives/other responsibilities and aren't F5ing every online store for every second of the day. It has less to do with being a fan and more to do with being lucky.

I guess my "7 units" figure was simply too high?

Whoa!

i've had one preordered from Gamestop for, I can't remember how long. I checked out as a guest but still check the status for it every now and then for this and the skull kid combo thingy. I just have a rotten feeling that my orders will be cancelled, too.

People are defending Nintendo because they just make the things and it's actually limited like was stated. You can be mad for them for not making enough limited edition systems, but they were upfront about availability.

I can understand about being mad that you couldn't easily get a limited system. You got beaten by others who were quicker and it sucks.

I think everyone should be shitting on the retailers for putting preorders up without even knowing what their allocation was going to be. They're the ones who have fucked this up for a lot of people.

My order status still says in process, but I have no confidence it wont be cancelled in the next few minutes.

If I dont get this LE, I wont be buying a normal N3DSXL.

I dont even like the 3DS console line. I only got this cause I love Zelda.

Oh wellz.

Just got an email that my order was canceled as well, and I only ordered one handheld.

I guess they oversold?
A scalper did say the reason for the cancellations was because they didn't have enough stock but to think the situation is so bad...

I have to wonder how many Best Buy thought they were getting? The Pikachu XL would be the number I would have aimed for (that was famous for living up to the word limited) but at the same time Best Buy might have been thinking "if we say we have a million then that means we take orders away from our competitors which is more useful than not annoying our customers, heck most of them probably have our 10%-off super reward card".

I really do want to know if someone knew or should have known better. I remember Amazon UK letting many people down on The Sky (limited to 1000) and Hyrule Historia Limited Edition (limited to 4000) because they never bothered to put a stock limit on the item so they kept getting pre-orders piled on due to virtue of being the only place with any in stock. Thankfully in both of those cases non-limited editions were made so the wound was eventually healed somewhat but the loss of trust remained.

But personally I hope Nintendo sits down and asks itself who it is serving with these systems? Like I said when New 3DS faceplates were revealed; this should mean the end of limited edition systems but of course no faceplates on New 3DS XL happened and other silly things like the Ambassador System in Europe, some Pokemon stuff in Japan and no New 3DS in America.

I really don't care for the "well its limited" argument. Consumers have no problem getting a phone with a cover in a wide variety of designs.

I wouldn't even be mad at Nintendo if they had told us how many of these things would be available.

For all we know, they could've made 5 total and just claim limited edition.

Take a sick day, or don't get the console. Nintendo does not have to accommodate everyone's schedule. They will make as many as they decide available, and those who are able to get it, will get it.

You can still get a regular console and play all the same games with all the same features just fine. I also have a job, my job just happens to be extremely flexible on scheduling (startup), so I can do shit like this. I still woke up at 5am PST to sit through the direct and order one when they went up right after.

Not everyone is entitled to get one ahead of life/professional responsibilities. Everyone knew they would be announced at the direct, and that was announced a couple of days ahead of time. Anyone who was even remotely following Nintendo new knew this.

Are you serious? lol

Same thing just happened to me and I ONLY ordered ONE and TBH, I am LIVID. They keep hanging up on me too :sigh:

I mean the Customer service rep cant just make one magically appear for you.

Not a damned thing. The asses. I can understand not having enough but have the decency to tell us directly. I was getting this for my daughter and now there's no chance of me getting one other than going on Ebay.

Fucking Bestbuy.

They did did they not? You got a confirmation of a cancel literally the same day you made the order. Im not trying to kiss ass or something weird like that to bestbuy but come on, you act like they're choosing you specificily to "fuck over." When its probably a case of overselling. They had the decency of canceling your order nearly straight away and not waiting.

You should be blaming your shitty ass retailers! In Aus, one retailer sold allocations out and didn't advertise that pre-orders were up (EBGames - known as GameStop). The other (JB Hi-Fi) made it clear they had 1200 units nationwide. That is how you do it folks.

Why people blaming Nintendo? Seriously I need a good reason cause it just sounds like mass whinging.

To my knowledge, no where does it say the Majora's Mask system is in fact a limited edition. Not on the box or on Nintendo's official website.

Even though my order will likely get cancelled, I totally agree.

I'm dead serious. Getting something that's actually limited is equal parts luck and dedication. Does everyone get chances to get tickets to extremely limited events? No. Only the people sitting in front of their computers when they go on sale do, because they sell out in 20 minutes. Did everyone get a 20th Anniversary PS4? No.

So what?

Even though my order will likely get cancelled, I totally agree.

:/ I think it's total BS if Best Buy is really canceling a ton of pre-orders because they overestimated their allocation. Nobody deserves that kind of disappointment; if you were able to order you, you should get it. Here's to hoping not all orders are canceled.

What the fuck. They canceled mine and didn't even inform me.

I ordered on the first day too.

Are you kidding me? They already charged my card for it too!

Nintendo apparently hate both their customers and money.

Use the money to buy something from a company who doesn't hate you instead.

I hope they dont cancel mine.

Ive been such a good customer to them during the last 2 months

I bought a White PS4
I preordered the LE system
I pre order the MM LE game
I pre ordered the LE Bloodborne.

All in 2 months. That is like over $700 worth of stuff in under 2 months. Just gaming stuff.

Great. Replying to posts you don't agree with by using just gif. They are somewhat right, Nintendo has been treating their customers in the US like shit when it comes to these Limited products, and not only Limited Editions, Amiibos and the GCN are other examples of how crappy their distribution system for certain items has been. And no, this is not about "Nintendo actually making the Limited in Limited Edition matter", they could easily release a larger batch, the demand is there, a couple thousand consoles would still be considered Limited.

So you get to arbitrarily decide how Limited it's going to be? I'd leave that decision up to the manufacturer, end of story. They are not making this to make a ton of money. In the grand scheme of things, everyone who wants a n3DS XL will still get one.

NO, I did not get a cancellation email. I got an email stating my gift code I used was no longer valid as I used it on a cancelled item and that this email was for a new code. I was NOT told my shit was cancelled, I had to look into it.

You seriously can't be serious when you say this. Not everyone is able to schedule their day/week/whatever on the possibility of buying something that is actually limited like you're able to. It must be nice to have that ability to do that (I guess), but don't be an ass about it

On topic though, it is shitty that Best Buy allowed people to pre-order more systems then what they'll have/already have in stock

Yes, because Best Buy overselling or selling with no gaurenteed allocation means Nintendo hates people...

I agree it would be messed up on BBs part selling preorders they dont have.

I even passed on the Fry's deal yesterday cause I had this preorder, and I was one of the first people to see that deal on this site.

I'm fucking pissed. They didn't say anything so I stopped looking. I missed the console on other retailers.

Fuckijg kidding me Best Buy?

Mine was canceled today as well.

I had one ordered from Best Buy, ordered one from Frys (currently "Back Ordered") and managed to pre-order at GameStop today via their "Web In Store" pre-order. I'm glad I pre-ordered from THREE stores because I'll be lucky if I get ONE.

My friend got her Best Buy canceled as well. If I manage to get my Frys & GameStop orders, she'll be getting one.
