Splatoon: new info from Famitsu magazine (Hero Mode, multiplayer and more)

The whole "requires all 8 players or no match" seems dumb in the long run. Hopefully that can be patched later on. As for communication, I expected as much :/

COD BLOPS still has over 1000 players online at times. I see no real issues with this.

You could be transmitting "SOS" calls using just a quick poke on the gamepad's map to get your teammates over to specific areas.

To do what, you are dying almost instantly when hit?

That would require patching in a bot system of sorts. I'm hardly an expert on game development, but I'm skeptical of that being possible.

You can touch the icon of a team member to jump to where they are on the map.

Is this translated correctly? Do they mean no AI in the game at all or not in player v player matches?

Matches are 2 teams of four players. The game won't make use of CPU fighters to fill in any gaps in the teams (say, if only 6 people are waiting for a match).

-Working on a local multiplayer mode in addition to online and Hero Mode
-Random matching is done world wide, game tries to place you with players close to your skill level based on ratings
The good.

-Game won't use CPU fighters; only once 8 human players have been found will a match start
The bad (?).

-No communication with players you are matched with
The ugly.

Nintendo's incompetence strikes once again.

Look at their games. It's not "incompetence". People too often throw that word around where it doesn't belong. They are far from incompetent.

Now this is a bizarre situation, however. Think we need the full magazine before we can make the determination. A single sentence on a blog isn't the most informative.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist using this kind of rules too on the SvM blacklist mode. I can still get an online match easily, months after the release.

It's 2015 and they can't seem to get fucking voicechat working in their games. If it's not incompetence, it's ignorance.

Oh, something else in sinobi's blog that isn't in the OP is that alot of the staff on this worked on Wii U launch titles. In case it wasn't obvious from the Nintendo Land-like Miiverse plaza in the game.

Can't, or won't? Choose words carefully.

I fully believe that they have the capabilities (and they have shown that), but they chose not to.

If you need 8 people to start then you need groups to matchmake. Party up with 4 friend the look for 4 other people. Since there is no party chat then it might not be a one sided game.

Dude, I love Nintendo but their knowledge of internet infrastructure and online features is 100% pure incompetence.

A squad based online shooter where teamwork is critical to success and it has no voice chat.

Just put a parental control pin prompt or something to control voice chat use/listening. I don't understand why they keep using this solution.

I never use voice chat even when I have the option, but I can see why it's disappointing for some people. I'm still excited though.

Yeah, there are not that many people playing Blacklist, but there still are ... on Wii U.

I don't get the "OMG no bots" talk at all. Is it a problem that Uncharted never had bots? No? Blacklist had no bots, that's also not a problem? Why is it now a problem?

I'm fine with this. Heard enough in PS3 titles to always mute everyone everywhere. I think there was literally a single time, where I actually wanted to talk to an actual friend in Uncharted 2. And I'm pretty sure that our talk went onto the nerves of another (random) coop player.

To be fair, voice chat isn't a solution for worldwide random matches since it's highly likely your team isn't going to speak the same language.

Maybe you're the ignorant, did you know of what happened to that little 3DS app called SwapNote? Saddly people can't be trusted so they have to do these shitty things to keep their main audience away from that kind of situations.

Or they could choose to not just cater to babies like every other hardware manufacturer.

Because we need to make up reasons to pile on hate on Nintendo. Despite there already being legitimate points to have against Nintendo.

With that being said, I did wish there was a voice chat option but given the reputation voice chat has (even though it is kind of old by now), I'm not surprised Nintendo would be very against using it.

Seriously. Normally voice chat in many Nintendo games feels a little luxury-ish, in that, okay, I can deal with no shit-talking during a game of Mario Kart or Smash. But in such a team-based game like this one, the feature would be essential. Even if it was friends-only, you gotta have it.

Ah well, still really hyped for the game.

Can't they just make voice chat friends only? It doesn't make sense to keep it completely out of a squad based online shooter.

For most of Nintendo's online games, I can understand having limited communication, but this? No way, that just isn't good.

Hopefully 'players you are matched with' means people who aren't in a party with you, but would be available for your friends. Heh, probably not...

We still don't know if there's voice chat for friends or not. The blog StreetsAhead translated just said no communication with players you're matched with.

We need more information before we make a determination.

So if I have my 3 nephews over, can we play together against 4 people online, or is it one player randomly matched with 3 people against 4 randomly matched people?

No bots is fine by me.

No voice chat is incomprehensible though. Just give people the option to disable it and mute everyone if they don't want it. That's good enough.

Oh wow you're so mature, wonder what you're doing in a babies game thread

Online experiences change. Your stuff will get abused everywhere. Everyone is fine with that but oh not Nintendo. This has nothing to do with maturity and with their weird policies.

So you were allowed to have games suitable for your age group when you were young but this new generation should just suck it up because games should now only be for grown ups?

We don't know how they're handling playing online with friends. The OP/sinobi's blog only mentions that you cannot communicate directly with people you are randomly matched with.

Hopefully the singleplayer has lots of content to warrant a purchase later on, since not surprisingly, the online mode was always gonna be an awful mess under Nintendo.

So... ignorance then? Choosing against including a pretty important feature in a team-based multiplayer game (or y'know, a standard multiplayer feature that's been around on consoles for like a decade) is baffling to say the least.

i am teh ignorant?

I am well aware. I also kinda don't see how it's relevant. We're not swapping pictures here. It's fucking voice chat.

Parental controls exist. Parents should use them.
