Now that my book's out, I can finally start on my manga backlog again.

Taking tropes from a certain genre of anime and then using them as a pretense for murder is a fuckin awesome premise. And it just gets better with the corpse anime. That so much time was put into explaining how the corpses are used to emulate visual anime tropes via stop-motion shows just how much of a nutjob Shintaro is. Dude really thought it out.

Also, actual big names in anime taking part in a murder plot! Of course Itano and Mizushima are in on it.

I will concur with you about the first half of OPM in that while I enjoyed it, I couldn't shake the idea the feeling that it was all one huge experiment. I got the sense that the author wanted to try some really strange presentation techniques without any care about what it did to the story. While I found myself really enjoying it still, I know it wasn't perfect because the gradual evolution of the series was easily measurable inasmuch clear improvement in writing, and even comedic situations. The series really took off for me art during the invasion arc
(man that alien ship was some mind bending shit... the artist showed both proficiency in both the ability to show OCD level detail in both chaos and order)
and the latest chapters took a massive boost in in quality in the character art as well. I look forward to reading MP soon (after I catch up with Prison School) so I can have a point of comparison as you do.

If only other character cooking get much focus as much as Soma's did and we actually understand cooking plus the cooking-babble the judges spout everytime they eat their dishes, what Soma made would look pale in comparison. It just his forte and quickwit aligned with what the judges expect.

3 volumes in I don't consider Soma arrogant. Putting arrogant fools in their place while keeping a smug face isn't arrogance imo. When he was cheated out by Erina at the start, an arrogant person would have reacted differently. Soma believes in his ability and that's different from arrogance from my point of view, unless he just becomes a complete dick head as the story progresses, but I'm not there yet.

A great response to Haly's defense
Though I don't bothered by dickish and arrogant character. Not all characters were made to be likeable. What Haly said have some truth in it though that Hayama doesn't have much story exposition like Kurokiba did (being close to Alice and battled Tadakoro before helped that a lot while Hayama only fought Erina's assistant).

Look Minori, I know you really want to make this a success, but trying to get people to stay in a burning studio instead of letting them evacuate is not the correct course of action.

Really love the double spread at the end though. Captures perfectly the series definition of what an idol should be.

Also does anyone feel that Aladdin doesn't get any more powerful? I know he has gotten some power-ups, it just doesn't feel like it.

I don't really think Hayama is that dickish. He is arrogant, but so are most of the S-Tier students at the academy. He hasn't actually pulled one asshole move as far as I can tell. If constantly repeating "I know aromas, I'm the greatest" is your worst character flaw, then you probably aren't that bad of a guy. Erina flunking Souma's entrance test out of spiteful pride is an actual example of dickish behavior. I would say Hayama has maxed out at "obnoxious" so far.

And I don't even like Hayama.

I saw that dialog video with the girls being complete bitches to each other, saw that it was a match-3 game. I just assumed it was all going to be implied stuff, but then finding out I had bought the censored version made me realize what the game actually was. I bought it because I thought it would be funny to play in a Hatoful Boyfriend kind of way.
