Halo |OT 23| Thruster is Love, Thruster is Life

CE had working jetpacks at one point, for Boarding Action? whaaaaaat

My thoughts exactly.
I wonder what the CE purists will think.
There's an alternate universe out there where Halo CE has jetpacks...

EDIT: So PC Sidewinder (two-way base teleports) was the TRUE OG? Noice.

God, that makes so much sense! I always wondered why the hell ships would have teleporters to each other if the scenario was "boarding action".

Obviously it needs to be remade in Reach or H4 with jet pack spawns. Or maybe H5 will still have jet packs somewhere. The dream can still become real!

A lot of features in later Halos some people consider "not Halo" or things that only appeared with Halo 3 and Reach would have been in Halo 1 and 2 had Bungie had the time. Sprint, jetpacks, Mongeese, Invasion...

I have no problem adding a ton of cool shit on top of Halo CE's core game mechanics, so long as it is balanced and extremely well designed.

It's why Shadowrun is my favorite Halo game of all time.

I believe he also specified the reason jetpacks were removed from multi is because it was deemed too risky to try and put in the campaign, so multi lost them too.

Boarding Action was designed around jetpacks that were working in Halo CE at some point in development.

Lebel said changing it to teleporters was a fast and dirty fix.

e-beat

Whaaaaat. That's nuts but makes me feel leagues better about how much hate Reach received from "purists". Halo has always needed more movement options, I guess even the CE team noticed that.

CE with Jetpacks...

Oh man I can't imagine that at all.

I mean, it makes complete sense based on a map like Boarding Action though right?

There's perhaps no Halo multi map with a greater emphasis on verticality. As I think of it, he's spot on in that it seems like many CE multi maps have a high level of vertical emphasis--just think of Prisoner, Damnation, Hang 'em High.

Oh yeah definitely, but I can't see CE's gameplay mix with jetpacks at all.

Soon we'll find out that Halo 3 was meant to have armor lock.

Armor Lock would be fine in CE because every weapon is OP. OP vs OP = OP

CE Master Race, excited to watch this video.
Armor Lock sucks

EDIT:
I'd say CE also points out the issues with making your maps so vertical—I think the CEA remakes CA did point out how broken and camp-happy the maps were for team games. I legitimately prefer the CA adjustments that made it much harder to squat on sniper rifle spawns on Prisoner, etc.
I too think many, if not all, of the remakes have been improvements.

Kinda makes you wonder what else Bungie's never talked about. Or if they have a copy of that version of the CE multiplayer suite and how different it plays.

Bungie seems to work better under crunch time, giving them time to flesh out their ideas seems like a bad thing.

This is just going off of h1/h2/destiny.

I think the trip mine was op in the beta. I think you could stick it to vehicles that weren't being used, and when someone got in, it would blow up.

Damn, beta Halo 3 was awesome, lol.

I feel like playing that game and the other Halos' multiplayer suites. If only there were some sort of collection that conveniently had all of them in one package which allowed me to easily launch matchmaking for any particular game.

The halo 3 beta was great. A mate and I told our gfs that we were going to a stag weekend to get some serious play time. He arrived at my house with his bag of clothes and 360, and he didnt leave until the sunday.

But now when i pldy halo 3, it is the worst halo for me. something doesn't feel right with it... That also might be one of the reasons that I dropped it for COD:MW back in 07

I've brought this up several times. If you give Bungie time to expand on things you get Destiny.

Can 343i please blatantly copy the Hotwire mode from Battlefield: Hardline for BTB? That shit is too fun. It would be like that one-off KotH game type where the Warthog was the hill, but with multiple hills.

I couldn't stand less than five minutes of that mode in Hardline...I guess I'm not casual enough to appreciate its "fun" factor.

Sometimes I hate being so competitive-centric and analytical...makes me not enjoy most games goof-off games.

Did anyone have problems with Xbox Live last night (on the X1)? Had the strangest thing happen to me from 8:30-9:15 PM EST before I just gave up.

All games said "must sign in to xbox live" although I was already signed in.
Then all games would only launch the title card / splash screen and wouldn't load beyond that.
Then if you tried to launch a new game it would get stuck on the title card, but the menu music from the previous game would start playing.

Nothing would stop the fix. Pulled the plug for a few minutes, refreshed the dashboard (hold RT, LT, Y while looking at the dashboard), disabled network connection, et al.

Really hoping that it was just a glitch last night and today it will be working again.

Conspiracy theory, when I'm playing MCC, my friends list on Xbox One will randomly say "cannot load friends at this time", or "0 friends online".

Sometimes it will show on the dash when I hit home, that I'm not even connected to XBL...all of this while waiting for matchmaking in MCC.

Then after quitting out of MCC and loading up another game...it will just hang in the other game's title loading screen...then I have to hard reset my Xbox One to get the damn thing to work.

I think it's MCC affecting the Xbox One all together. When I check Xbox Live status, everything is up except for some apps having individual problems.

Had that problem with Youtube. I just hard resetted the box and didn't have the problem again.

MCC is just the gift that keeps on giving. Wonder if at some point it would be better to delete the download and get a fresh install. I know, in theory, that's not how the downloads and patches work on the X1. In theory each patch simply updates the base code of the game. But it still feels like eventually there is extraneous downloaded data (because I'm paranoid).

Yeah, maybe it would be good to relax and try some casual gameplay. I like a good competitive game, but when I play games to unwind it usually doesn't help. Betas are especially liberating because the stats aren't even permanent, so you can really just play as poorly as you want to explore the game and its mechanics.

I don't care about playing poorly or not...it's the game itself, if it's too casual of a mode, it bores the hell out of me.

I can lay in bed and play Peggle all night long on my tablet, but games like Battlefield, Halo, etc...I can't enjoy their casual modes...e.g., rocket race, grifball, etc.

Silly game modes bore the hell out of me, they're not the least bit entertaining. I need substance when I game, an objective, a need to want to win, when it's a pvp game.

Hell, even on the NHL Arcade game that's 3v3 on Xbox Live Arcade, I disable the powerups, and make it be just normal pond hockey, it's fun as hell, but the moment the powerups come on...I get bored.

I do enjoy Mario Kart though ;)

How often do you play with friends? I find the casual modes are pretty boring solo but they're the most fun I've ever had on a Halo game with friends.

Stuff like infection on homemade forge maps and rocket race are amazing with a few good friends. You really need someone to laugh with if you're playing a silly mode. If you don't it's just not going to be very fun.

Didn't sleep very well last night. Lots of weird dreams. Alongside the coding nightmares and weird Halo dreams(wtf) was one where I had a member tag.

How sad is that?

Part of Live relating to Purchases/Content was having issues yesterday night.

Tough for me to play with friends since I work full-time and my friends also work full-time...we're all on at different times/zones, so usually I'm always online solo for an hour at most during the week nights.

I'm not your typical couch potato gamer...but at the same time, I get relaxation out of competitive play. Hell, I can sit at my PC and play WoW or Diablo III for hours solo...it's fun because I'm doing something...but I rarely play any game modes that are non-vanilla game modes of "XYZ" game.

I can't even enjoy insta-gib modes in Quake Live ;)

That's the problem then. Most of these modes are designed to be a fun laugh with friends. Playing Rocket Race solo would be awful. However with friends you can laugh at all the crazy stupid stuff happening.

Pretty cool. Bungie always did a lot of extra stuff to give their maps life, especially for people who liked to glitch out, or go where they're not supposed to.

whoa. (thanks)

I used to get tagging / banning dreams pretty frequently when I'd browse GAF right before bed.

Some dude in the MCC thread actually did this and swears by it. Might increase your chances of success but I'm pretty much done with the game until the next patch.

Wow. This is the most idiotic thing I've read on here in a long time.

The entire content package container an Xbox One games gets stored in is signed and encrypted. It's part of the reason even simple little patches and fixes for every game still wind up being a GB or so - I believe it's some sort of inefficient differential patching system which splits the package into chunks.

Anyway, if something went wrong during the many patches or otherwise with the game data, it would invalidate the game container signature(s) and it wouldn't boot anymore. So in theory deleting and reinstalling won't do anything more than a hard reset or manually quitting the game would do. The only changes people are seeing are placebo combined with the app being unloaded from memory and fully restarted following the reinstall.

I've sometimes had dreams about various forums or websites being browsed. However, they're always paired with the knowledge I'm dreaming them, which is strange. I'll be dreaming about it and at the same time thinking (in the dream) "how am I even getting this page to load, my brain can't connect to the internet", then I wake up.

Hard enough lucid dreaming paradoxes pretty much force you out of sleep so that you don't end up in a semi-conscious, still-dreaming sort of sleep paralysis. Also, moon wizards.

I'm in the preview program and it's downloading a 1.5 GB update right now. Let you know if it's anything interesting.

Until then...

something from last night's Legendary pay-through of Floodgate. This is the very end of the level. I call it Arby's Flame Broiler.

He's ready for that bar-b-que! Keep us updated :)
