Persona 5 New Trailer

A high school renowned for delinquents having such snobbish-looking uniform seems weird.

Don't read into this much if at all.

The big "delinquent" high school in my city has the most stylish uniform of any of the high schools around here, public or private. A lot of students who aren't interested in actually going to college out here tend to pick their school based on whether they liked the uniform or not.

I see no reason why.

Not everything has to have a character creator.
The Persona series, and its parent series for that matter, have certain standards dictated by the creators first and foremost, and a very specific fanbase that like the series for exactly those standards. They don't hunt the current trends and quite honestly, it's best if some games don't.

Most people will definitely (and correctly) recommend you should try out the other games, namely Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 FES.

Keep in mind they are lengthy games to play through your first go (60+ hours), so if you are time sensitive about your play time, keep that in mind.

will play the 5th one only then... might get P4golden for vita...

Aa yes, after reading a bit more about the education system, that makes sense. I was conflating the situation with my country's, in which many don't even have the luxury to pick schools.

Character creators are not something that need to be shoehorned into every game. They're nice for some games, but with a game that exudes as much style as P5, it makes sense for there to be a locked design for the MC that corresponds with the story being told. The MC's design was clearly well-thought out and the design is meant to fit with the rest of the game. That could potentially be lost with a character designer.

I think it could be cool if done well but at the same time Persona is one of the few series I don't think needs it.

@KR0NPR1NZ

It's mind blowing that it's fan art.
I thought we are looking at official stuff here ;)

No it really doesn't. It has one of the best character designers in the industry.
Choosing between male and female ready made MCs? No problem, but character creator? No way in hell.

Yeah, I was told by a colleague in the big city that the most academic high school in the prefecture actually wears mufti (casual clothes) as a reward for being academically badass.

By the way, Kr0n is notorious for heavy referencing and tracing in the artist community, but claims to have given that up recently. (That piece certainly wasn't traced off anything directly afaik)

One of my former students is super smart and he attends a high school where he can wear his regular clothes, no uniforms.

Yar, now that I've thought a bit more, reducing Kaneko's and Soejima's character artwork to tiny visual pieces to mix and match would be a bad, bad thing.

What bump are you looking for?

Better textures, resolution, improved character models, added graphical effects.

I am not asking for a complete rework, but I would like to see a REALLY noticeable improvement.

the struggle in japan is real...

I hear they don't even have PS4 dev kits yet

DAMN! Seriously? How is that even possible? ITS FRIGGIN 2015 for crying out loud?

What? Do they only make mobile and last gen games in Japan now? Come on!

I'm not sure we will get better assets, but we will likely get better rendering out to screen and post-processing. Those really aren't too difficult to crank up. Though I guess it depends on their engine. If this is proprietary I really don't know how the situation is.

Sorry, was taking the piss there. Ignore me.

I can't keep up with this thread at all.

Did we get any new information alongside the trailer?

I'll second that question, I woke up this morning to see that the thread had grown by 45 pages since yesterday. The hype is crazy. Is there any post/place that sums up the most important information people have drawn from the trailer or other sources?

Menus definitely look really stilysh, but they kind of remind me to the Catherine starting screen (the one where you chosse New Game / Load / Modes / ...) but improved.

i tried persona 4 and didn't make it very far, i'm not very good at rpgs. but man this looks good, i'll try my luck again.

Have you tried playing in Easy / Very Easy?

Or asking some tips? SMT related game can be "hard to grasp" at first because of the weird spells names and those kind of things. But Internet is your friend :)

Nice, I'll read it.

Hm? I've been in the artist community for a quite long time, and been watching Kr0n since his comic for some Russian game magazine. But I haven't heard everything like that. He does style studies sometimes, but he also always credits original creator/anime.

To not go completely offtopic, I'm just so so glad Persona hits mainstream now. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside :D

I really disagree with this, but eh, it's not something that I am currently willing to discuss at any length. It's nothing but a preference of mine anyways.

Those menus might look cool the first few times but if they're hard to use it's going to be a mighty pain.

Said it earlier in the thread, but the user interface doesn't seem to have changed. It's still simple like the other games. You just have to adjust your eyes to what you want to look at better :p

The trailer is so good that I think it surpassed even the most excitable Persona fan's expectations.
I know it surpassed mine. I was shocked because it really hit on most of my wishlist for the game. I thought I'd get a few of the things I was looking for. Not most of them!

I mean you're welcome to your opinion and I won't belabor the issue. I would think though that it's pretty much a given that character designs tell stories. How a character looks is a story unto itself. Some games don't need that story and discard it in favor of you crafting your own visual story (Mass Effect comes to mind). Some games have a very specific visual story that they want to convey (P5 seems an example of that). I think that's great. Both kinds of games should exist, and developers, if they feel it is appropriate, should not shy from imposing a specific vision on the game. I wish people wouldn't insist on character creation everywhere or conversely no character creation ever. Terrible.

That's all I have to say. No absolutes with character design people.

It's seriously kind of ridiculous how damn stylish this trailer is. I love Persona 3 and 4 (as well as Catherine), and had high hopes, but this crushes all expectations.

Seeing that this protag might have a more defined character might make a character creator inappropriate.

I don't mind a character creator. I think they nailed P4 MC. People talk about how much "swag" (or whatever) he has but I felt he was quite a neutral character. There was nothing that stood out oddly and the different options let you create different personalities.

Those menus might look cool the first few times but if they're hard to use it's going to be a mighty pain.

They seem quite easy to use for what they showed. Really similar to Persona 4 but with those cool looking animations.

When's Famitsu coming out?
I don't like the girl's hairstyle, since it seems there's a clothing system I hope we can change that too.
