Dying Light PC Performance Thread

Ya , i had to turn mine to medium on my gtx660 2gb , on high it would stutter a lot.
Unfortunately the new drivers seem to run the game a smidge worse for me as well (The ones released today)

Id say im getting 2-3 fps less now , not having changed anything but the drivers - which is weird as its usually the other way around with new drivers :/

That's a bummer, thanks for info, I'll just turn it back down to medium.

I can't seem to play Co-op anymore. I'm at 93% story completion on a second playthrough, and now for whatever reason it won't give me the option to select coop anymore. I can play that Zombie mode, but no more co-op. Anyone have any ideas?

Not sure if last patch or what but the last chunk of this game I was experiencing pretty crazy memory leaks. Was creeping toward my full 8 gigs of memory and thought it was because I had my browser open or something, closed it out and a few other applications. Brought it down to like 7 gigs and still climbed back up.

Game has really strange performance.

For some time I played game with everything on ultra exept view distance(50%) with v-sync on at 60fps without any problems. Then I don't know, what happened but performance fell and I had drops to 30 and even lower at every settings.

Now I am playing with eveything on ultra exept shadows with 100% view distance and pretty good framerate 50-60 but with a lot of tearing. If I make v-sync on, even with setting like before(everything on ultra exept view distance(50%) with v-sync) game become not playable with drops to 30fps all around.

it is so strange.

gtx 780, i5 4670 16gb ram

(sorry for my english)

So the second area has worse performance for me. In the first area I'm mostly at 60fps locked with only a few areas tanking my frame rate for unknown reasons, but I seem to be dropping frames very often in the second area, hopefully they polish it up a bit.

So, what's up with the GPU use?

jDFG4fS.jpg

That's as low as I've seen it. As posted previously, VSync is off and all other settings are to maximise performance. Was never this bad pre-patch.

Next pic is with Shadow Maps on very high. Clearly working my GPU more and maintaining framerate so no bottleneck elsewhere.

FyhY0j3.jpg

It's most annoying as I'd rarely be dropping below 60 FPS without these weird hiccups.

Just bought this. Got a Haswell i5 and a 780. What are the optimal settings for 60fps?

Textures at medium most likely, game frequently sits at 3-3.5 on high and there's not a huge difference anyway.. Shadows to high or medium, as Ultra is really demanding. Nvidia DOF off as it is somewhat buggy for some people. View distance I'd start at around 35ish and tweak from there.

I have view distance all the way down, I don't notice a graphical difference at all between min and max but the frame rate hit is massive.

Hi Jimmy, I posted my specs a couple of pages back, and high textures are fine. Game seems to make use of 3.5 Gb VRAM on 4 Gig cards but on a 780 it sits below 3Gb on max settings almost always. The high setting preloads textures using whatever VRAM it has available and 3Gb seems to suit it fine.

Dropping Shadow maps to high gives you the best performance boost with barely noticeable degradation in quality, and VRAM use also drops slightly. You'll never get a constant 60fps though due to inefficient use of GPU in certain places (see my above post),

Thanks, I set it up as you recommended and it runs incredibly well and looks amazing.
Cheers

The game runs even better now. Significantly so than it did at launch, still not 60fps 100% locked though but that will do.

Turning off film grain does wonder.

I'd wait to see if andy updates the perf guide before singing their praises yet. We already know they kneecapped the LoD setting again, so that perf boost might just be a mirage.

Performance is great now, very good patch.

My settings (excuse the crude stitch job):

Frame rate with my settings:

Frame rate with view distance max:

Waypoint if you want to test your frame rate in the same area:

I picked this spot as it's the most intense area I've found so far, it used to absolutely tank my frame rate but now it's 60fps solid, which means everywhere else is also 60fps solid. Personally I can't tell the difference between view distance min and max, so I just set it on the notch that didn't affect frame rate at all, the next notch up cost me 3fps and I can't be having that :)

Ram usage dropped by 2GB as well.

I think they reduced the view distance again. I'm noticing more pop-in.
All they're doing is changing the range of the slider, it now goes all the way down to 1.00 view distance. Lowest was 1.40 or something like that before. It's not a downgrade or anything like that, you could already do this if you edited the video settings file.

anybody able to get mods to work in the new version? I can't seem to get my old stuff working, with or without the manager (supposed to be able to without manager now).

I really wish they would add in a different type of AA, the standard one looks horrible at 30fps, and sweetfx/nVidia inspector smaa/fxaa solutions don't seem to do a very good job with this game for some reason.

Guys on the steam forums are reporting that they removed all reflections from the game and limited Shadow res buffer to 2048 (old max on 1.0 was 8k lol....) along with cutting down the view res again...

Well, at least we'll always have the option to readd this stuff with dying light manager, eh?

It's really odd. On console they keep adding gfx, on PC they keep taking it away.

I know PC gamers "like 60 FPS" but we like it if you give us the option.

Killing all reflections is way too severe.

I haven't noticed any difference in reflections, I can still see my goofy mug on weapons when I grab them out of boxes, I'll check next time I play to see if anything else is missing.

not sure if this was posted, but this is a great new minimal HUD mod. i'm using the alternate version w/ just the health bar. looks great so far.

http://www.nexusmods.com/dyinglight/mods/85/?

Without the repair bar and usable item icon it's kinda unusable imo, especially considering they left in the skill bars of all things. I mean that thing is entirely pointless to be persistently looking at because it only moves in one direction and the screen flashes when you level up anyway.

If you wanna go no hud then go no hud. This just seems like a stopgap between a minimization of the hud and no hud that services neither.

But thanks for the link to the site, this mod sounds awesome as a good stopgap between current normal, which is zzzzzzz, and the official hard mode:

http://www.nexusmods.com/dyinglight/mods/63/?

Some cool changes for this hardcore mod. List:

Overall rebalances:
-All Kicks (and tackle) no longer do damages, they are now only serve as ways to push back zombies. (unless you kick them into a wall)
-Flykick lvl 2 now has a new fast get up animation.
-Enabled the actual Tic Tac ability and wall running ability.
-Many skills have their status slightly changed (mostly enabled the skills that originally had no cooldown time, ex. takedown now has 3 seconds cool down)
-InifiteStamina disabled.
-Camouflage nerffed (duration and depletion)
-Kick now also use stamina.
-1.5 times more fitness.
-Less health
-All damages done by all enemies doubled or even tripled. (you can still run around killing zombies like before, but they can kill you very easily, too if you are not skillful enough.)
-All enemies health tripled, but also significantly increased the damage factors weapons dealt to enemies to balance it out.
-Slightly increased the ranges and Virals attracted when making loud noise.
-Disabled Survival Sense ability, now it only shows you a mark of your objective and its distance, nothing else.
-All melee weapons damages nerffed, including easter egg weapons(made them 1 time repairable though).
-All weapons last longer before they break.
-Some explosive buffed, but max carrying number significantly decreased.
-Increased back pack slots.
-Increased Encounter events volume a bit to compensate the lack of mini map. Also increased the frequency of encounter events.
-Looting system changed (reference from Radikal Harran Survival mod) now weapon drops are randomized, the higher the tier, the less chance it will drop. Now you will still get low tier weapons at high level, which make more sense. No more OP weapon drops only later on in the game.
-Enabled shops selling all tiers weapons.
-Grapple hook nerffed (cooldown and length)
-and some others minor changes I don't quire remember now...

Night time changes:
-UV flashlight nerffed. (duration and regen delay)
-Enabled night time Prime event.
-Virals and Volatiles instant spotting!! (No more stupid delays, plus no HUD, you CANNOT see what's coming!)
-Increased the ranges and time they will search for you. Also the time they search for you after you eascape.
-Increased their sight ranges.
-Increased the number of Virals and Volatiles that will chase you at the same time according to alarm levels.
-Slightly reduced the "pause" Virals and Volatiles tend to have while chasing player.
-Maybe some other minor changes....

One thing I don't like is weapon durability increased. I mean shit, durability ceases to be a problem about 3 hours into the game unless you're just going on like, 100 zombie killing sprees all the time.

I used Dying Light Manager to disable shadows, it looks better to me since I could only use the low res shadows which looked like blockey vomit. And now it went from ~30FPS with dips way down to 17, to a nice smooth 40-60, lowest dips only to 30. This is on an Iris Pro 5200, not a fantastic GPU, but just that one tweak made it quite smooth.

sucks that I have to turn textures down to medium in order to get a completely stutter-free 60fps with my 970 + g-sync.

It's the same with my 980. Don't blame your 970 for it.

You might want to try using one of those "borderless window" apps if you haven't already. I've been using Borderless Gaming 7.9 coupled with a 60fps cap through RTSS, and NVIDIA Inspector's vsync. Can't say it's perfect, but it's definitely much better than the "stutter-fest" fullscreen solution offered by Techland.

Running on balanced at 4k with an i5 4690k and 290x, both ocd nicely. Runs great! Without v-sync ridiculous screen tearing though, with vsync it looks awesome.

So how does this run on a 760 w/ 2GB of VRAM after all the patches? Will I at least be able to match the PS4 version in terms of visuals and performance?

Match it and then some. The PS4 (and XB1) version still has really, really low LOD compared to even the lowest setting on the PC.
