New Nintendo 3DS & New Nintendo 3DS XL Launch Thread

I want one of these so badly, but I'm in the Caribbean for the foreseeable future and need one from Europe (fuck you region locking). It's probably impossible :(

Would there be any cheap way of getting an EU n3ds to the US? Maybe a friend could pick it up there for me. Any good import sites? I'd also need an address. Fuck, it's impossible.

I don't even want any new games, I just want to replay all the great games I already have on a console that isn't dying. (My 3DS is on its last legs due to being dropped in diet coke)

Just received my New 3DS from nintendo.co.uk, but its missing the extra power adapter your supposed to get with it.

I ordered this one;

http://store.nintendo.co.uk/new-nin...majoras-mask-3d-special-edition/11070032.html

I've contacted them, so we'll see what happens. I thought maybe it was coming separately, but the order says 1 of 1 packages delivered and 0 pending.

This will probably explain it - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=151581359&highlight=#post151581359

Just a little question for any of you 3DS owners that have had their machines for a while now.

I own an Ambassador version of the N3DS and today I noticed that I have a small scratch on the top screen. It's located at a point when the raised frame of the bottom screen could be in contact with the top screen. This 3DS has literally had about 3h's of total play time since I got it as I've been treating it with kid gloves.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Is this just a continuation of the screen scratching that plagued the original 3DS. To say I'm a little peeved is an understatement.

That's it. Not living through that again. Just ordered screen protectors for my New XL. (These ones.) Hopefully that'll be sufficient...

I want the regular, but NoA made the choice for me.

I'll have to live. LOL.

You aren't alone. I'm debating on importing one but then I'll be stuck to staying digital or importing. I know the region freeze hacks work now but don't know how long that will last.

So UPS says my Majora New 3DS XL is arriving on Monday, which is pretty sweet since I paid for value (5-10 day) shipping. I guess it pays to live relatively close (Tallahassee FL) to their warehouse in Kentucky.

Any first hand impressions using this yet? Is it viable for FPS gaming?

Dear god don't tell me that they still have problems with screens scratching themselves after 3 generations of 3DSs. :(

The lack of adapter is so stupid. Bestbuy doesn't even have the official charger listed? Even for the 3ds model.

I'm not about to buy some third party charger..

$17 on Amazon, haha. Wow.

Edit: Can anyone please recommend a good 64GB card on Amazon?

I'm trying to figure something very basic out, but can't find the answer.

I'm getting a MH version of the new XL, and that has MH pre-installed. If I transfer my old 3ds to my new xl, will it overwrite my MH?

This whole thing is so stupid.

Yes but if you did it right you just redownload the game off of the eshop

And yes it IS stupid

Nintendo's Network and Account system is a joke

The OP should add that the screens quality is improved with much better clarity and color. IMO it is worth the upgrade alone.

So we know the PPI on the new 3ds is slightly lower than the original (og) 3ds
How does the new XL PPI compare to the current XL

As long as you don't link an NNID with the new system you can redowwnload the game after the transfer. The transfer merges the licenses, but deletes everything on the new system

I havent done this personally yet, but i've read a few guides and the process should delete the game from the microsd. Then you'll be able to redownload it from your download hystory in the eshop.

I went to walmart yesterday and just went by to check if they had one to grab and they only had a 3rd party car charger available. If they aren't going to bundle it they should at least be stocked in the stores and easy to buy. I might just buy a refurb from nintendo for 5 bucks.

Nintendo is so arrogant. :(

oh, they improved the color balance? Never played 2D mode on my xl because it looks like someone took a piss on the screen.

Yes, you don't have this filter (wich I assume was caused by the pixel barrier) going on and off when switching between 3D and 2D mode.

It's the same pixel density, I'm talking about the screen clarity, not one linked to the resolution or pixel density.

It works pretty well for camera control or a slow paced fps (like an RPG or adventure game), but I can't imagine playing a shooter with the thing.

I'm ready

I can't tell if you like Majora's Mask or not. LOL :) You are definitely ready.

----

Why wouldn't Nintendo release faceplates for the XL? I still don't understand this decision either. (Shelf space, yada, yada). Sell them online. Etc.

----

Yeah I preordered it on impulse but the black in person looks sleek and pictures don't do it justice.

OHHHHH LUCKY. I think I wanted a MH4 unit but didn't get there in time, so got the Black one.

Thanks OP, used your guide for my transfer. Was prepped and it finished in a matter of minutes.

Woo! The Skull Kid figurine is pretty rad.

Exact same thing. The only difference is that the colors on the new model seem deeper and more vivid.

Sort of relevant question:

What's the best way to transfer saved data from one SD card to a newer, larger capacity one when you've only got one 3DS? Can that be done by manually migrating the files via PC or would that not work entirely given licensing issues for the games?

Seems like you're right. Pulled this from another thread

O3DS: 132 PPI
O3DS XL: 95 PPI
N3DS XL: 95 PPI
N3DS: 120 PPI

NoA, gimmie non-XL! and why did PPI drop from 132 to 120?

That's exactly how it's done, as shown in the 3DS manual. Just copy everything from the card to your PC, then all those files on your PC to the new card. The game files themselves are encrypted but the system doesn't care about what card they're on.

1. Take old SD card out of 3DS and plug it into your computer.
2. Copy the "Nintendo 3DS" folder to your computer.
3. Eject old SD Card out of computer and put in the new larger capacity SD card in computer.
4. Transfer Nintendo 3DS folder from computer to the new larger SD Card.
5. Place that card in your Nintendo 3DS.

You are good to go. I literally did this last night.

Screen is bigger on n3DS as opposed to the original

I didn't pre-order this, but I'm hoping to find it in stock somewhere tomorrow.

Any word on it potentially being hard to find on launch day?

It might be.

I would avoid Best Buy as it seems they might not even have enough to cover their in-store pre-orders.

I would look at Target - the earlier the better - and Toysrus as a backup.

just in case any euro gaffers are considering the orange cover plates.

Where did you buy them? I wanted the plain red ones for my black n3DS, but apparently Nintendo isn't going to sell them in Europe, which is nonsense as usual. I just don't feel the various themed cover, just wanted red on black :(

Yay! Got my shipping confirmation for my Black N3DS XL for delivery tomorrow via UPS My Choice.

I'd ordered instore on Monday and the clerk said it should come Friday. But when I got home I saw it was value shipping with estimate of late Feb-Early march. I called support and the rep couldn't change it in the main system, but was able to upgrade it in the secondary system. But she said their was a chance that could cancel the order or not go through. But it worked, and I'll get it tomorrow and didn't have to pay for overnight shipping. :D

No e-mail or order status update on website from Gamestop yet.

Package arrived today; I'd ordered the Blue XL + MM3D SE bundle from the online store. Haven't had a chance to unpack it, but the Skull Kid's in with it; thought it might have had to come separately.

However, I'm sure there was meant to be an adapter in the bundle, and I don't appear to have one unless it's tucked away in one of the other boxes. It's not a huge problem - I have others - but it's certainly a surprise.

I was hoping it was that easy, but after hearing all these issues crop up I was starting to have my suspicions, lol.
