The Order 1886 | Impressions Thread of not shooting the messenger.

Re: the OP

How could the game possibly have the replayability of Vanquish when in the very next sentence it is stated that the cutscenes are unskippable and dictate the pace?

Are people even paying attention to the impressions in this thread and others when they say stuff like this?

I'm going to try to round up the impressions from other gaffers and move them into this thread as well.

The amount of effort you would put into that isn't worth it, some people have their mind made up no matter what others say. Hell he came in here said that nonsense in a thread where the guy who's giving impressions already said it was longer than that and gave out a positive outlook on the game.

Apparently not, there is a thing called "The Armoury" in the main menu but beating the game apparently doesn't unlock it. Maybe beating the game on hard or collecting everything does?

That's too bad. Maybe it's not the kind of game you'd want to replay though.

I always got a Resident Evil vibe from it, and that series has done a lot to make the game replay friendly, with extra modes and lots of side stuff.

Despite the accusations that this is some "movie" game, I'm still all in for it.

To the point where I saw it on sale today at my local Wal-Mart and contemplating purchasing it and canceling my Amazon order, but decided against it because Amazon Gift Card money made it free.

But yeah,I still want it.

I'm expecting that to be some kind of network thing unlocked at launch, bit weird to have a greyed out option showing up for so long otherwise.

Oh no, he's gone. Wait, did he play the game?

Nevermind, I don't give a shit.

Are you gonna play the game?

And multiple gaffers that have beaten the game have said he's full of shit.

The thing is I don't know if those guys played through the game with a stopwatch at their side. Time can be a difficult thing to keep track of. I thought I spent 14 hours playing The Last of Us through the first time, but it was only 10 hours.

With the Youtuber, at least, you can count how much time he has played in his unedited walkthrough.

But I digress, this thread isn't about the verifiability of timekeeping.

Are you gonna play the game?

I expect I will, sooner or later.

I actually kinda like that the game is on the shorter end. I don't have much time to play each week and if I can finish this game in about 6 hours and if the story is good then I'll gladly pay $60 for it.

Something I've wondered though is how are people allowed to share this information and even more upload the entire game on youtube? I thought the embargo date was on the 19th of February.

Think I will wait for a major price drop , it's alright having impressive visuals but if the ganeplay and substance isn't there then no chance of a day one. The lack of co-op is ridiculous too.

One more question?

Are there any DLCs announced?

Anything to make the initial $60 investment worth more in the long run?

I'm definitely going to play it because we need more games like Nightmare Creatures, but I am not sure why I would buy over rent at this point.

Yea i'd be in love with the premise much more if it was like RE4 style progression and design. Been a while since a new IP has attempted that style.

I don't think the studio or Sony ever shyed from what this game is about. Clearly this is a cinamatic game, and clearly there is a market for it if Sony keeps pumping games of this genre (HR,UD). For the mechanic-tight hardcore type of game, Bloodborne is out soon. I hate to see people hating on RAD and Sony for this.

Thanks for the thread, this is the 1st 1886 I've read in a while.

From your impressions, I'm all in. I stopped pre-ordering games, so I'll pick this up Friday.

As far as the Friday release, that must be a Sony exclusive thing.. TLoU was the same way, which is nice, gives me the weekend to play.

Crossposting from the spoiler thread:

The total is 327 minutes, we have like 40 minutes of chapters that are just cutscenes. If you sum more 1/3 of the remaining (~96) you got 136 minutes. That's not the majority of the game.

Yes, it's a huge ratio, but anywhere near most.....

So I am right if you include the cutscenes from regular chapters it is about a 1/4 and all I was doing was providing stats on it. I wasn't backing up the claim that the majority of the game is cut scenes, just to make that clear.

Personally, I think it harkens back to Metal Gear Solid in terms of pacing, to Killzone 2 for its gunplay theatricality, and to Vanquish, for its replayability
Man...this,this is a tall order to climb for any game

How are we defining haters? Anyone who doesn't board the 'hype train'.

The hype and hate are equally boring with this game.

You see the people who keep referring to how short it is? Or comparing it to Ryse? That sort of thing, people seem to be absolutely intent on making sure everyone hates this game because.... reasons?

I don't know, it's just very fun to watch. There's always some reason why this game is awful, from QTEs to black bars to length. Have to find a reason to hate it.

Incredibly Naive
It does sound like people are suggesting extending the length of the game by doing everything possible to make it tougher.

This kind of comment makes me think the game must be pretty short.

I vaguely remember being told something like I wasn't getting the experience the game was supposed to give me unless I was playing it on hard by numerous folk.

This is a common argument brought up when a game can be beat fast. The fact of the matter is TLOU was long on normal your first playthrough almost no matter what. Playing on survivor without listen mode is definitely more intense and more fun, but I think that rings true for just about every game. I don't think it's fair to gauge game length by the longest possible, it should be gauged by average length. I got chewed out for saying LBP 3 was too short, others were saying if you take your time to appreciate and collect everything it's fine. All games can be extended, but most people don't play this way, they simply enjoy the game and the story line and make their way through.

Now you're asking for DLC? Just rent it, dude.

This post isn't by me, it's by a guy with the same username as me.
We aren't doing this, in this topic.

This is about impressions of the game from GAFers.

Yeah, i know it wasn't a "great"thing to do. I just wanted to show that even if the game is heavy on cinematics it isn't a David Cage game....

did a bunch of posts just get deleted?

y2kev: did you delete a whole group, or specific posts. Just wondering if my post that was deleted was treading in dangerous waters

So, since I don't have a PS4 and had nothing better to do, I just finished watching the walkthrough of this game on YouTube. I'm cautious about saying anything about what I think of the plot here though, so I'll just keep my mouth shut.

If you want to talk about the story, I believe there is a spoiler thread as well. Please don't do that here.
