But sure, let's excuse the PS3 purchases. At this point, I haven't seen anyone say they bought a PS4 for The Last Guardian, so I don't know whether anyone really did that. With the PS3? Sure.

I wouldn't say people bought both consoles solely for TLG, of course. I bought the PS4 on the promise that the next Uncharted was going to be developed for it sooner or later, but I got it for most first party offerings as well.

I just found it kinda funny (or sad?) that those who got the PS3 and PS4 mainly for TLG are still waiting for a game that's almost certainly cancelled.

I know it is going to be a spiritual successor to shadow colossus which was supposed to be a great game in and of itself. I played a little bit of ico and couldn't really vibe with it and it seems that game has a legacy for influence.

Just a month ago Ueda said development is going "under completely new conditions". Team ICO still exists. Yoshida has constantly reassured us "it's coming" even if we hadn't heard anything new for years. It's gonna be a PR nightmare if he or Ueda were lying. They've poured too much money and time into it to kill at this stage. Having these in mind, you have to be a fool to think it's canceled. The biggest hint is that Team ICO is still intact. They're gonna finish what they've started and it's gonna be a glorious game, whether it's called TLG or not.

You answer your own question. The hype comes from the fact, that it's a game from the creator of ICO and SoTC; two very loved and critically acclaimed games by the community in general.
