IGN First: Bloodborne Story Trailer

Hopefully the trailer clears up the game's title.

You'd not believe the number of people who are like, "wait, why did they add an 'e' to born?"
Hopefully it will also stop those adding the "u" becuase tey think it is related to Bourne movie series.
I would be extremely distrustful of any reviews from the majority of publications in regards to games like Bloodborne (or even Dark Souls or Demon Souls). Sure they review highly but I don't actually feel as if the reviewers have an understanding or can talk in depth as to what makes the games so good.

And to this point, Dark Souls 2 is rated similar to Dark Souls 1 but I'm sure the major consensus is that DS1 is the better game. The nuances that separate the two games just don't get covered by most reviewers. I feel its always been a hollow high score in that regard and I expect Bloodborne to follow that trend.

Exactly, unless the reviewer has played the 3500 hours many have invested over the years, they likely wont figure out the nuances that made the series an immediate cult classic...when even the vets with all those hours invested cant agree, it also speaks to the unlikelihood that a reviewer will have relavant things to say to the vets. The masses on the other hand? THis is a contentious topic...does the "community" want dumbed down game? Its nice to have numbers and strength in veto power, but will this mean a deterioration of what Souls was from the beginning? One thing that is consisent through all games is that none were carbon copies of the others before it. This iteration will have many peculairities and interesting points of discussion I am sure! ;)

Shrine of Amana is one of the best areas of the game.
I agree, I like the outskirts, and any area that is tough, even on the border of cheap, simply becuase it mixes it up and challenges me to think outside the box and use whatever tactics I can to get by. If it was cheap design, i will use cheap means, even if it means black firebombs for bed of chaos, poison arrows for Amana, or the chameleon spell (forget what its called in DS2) for the Outskirts. I was a big fan of coming to Blighttown with a slumbering dragoncrest ring and cheesing those zombie things from behind...very satisfying.

There's no way this game can be bad, right?
Um. as unlikely as it is, it could easily be bad if many of the complaints about the other games culminate in this one, or there are worse issues with which we are unfamiliar. THat said it is unlikely for the following reasons.

a.) FROM has had a long time for this title, much more than the other titles, especially ds1, which ironically some think is the best, and of course in many ways it is. Still it was rushed.
b.) The story is fresh
c.) the changes we know are coming make sense to souls fans - i.e. losing the shields is something most players do anyway.
I hope I can play this....but I suck at video games....
No game will help you improve more than souls game.

If you enjoy Bloodborne when it comes out, please do yourself a favor and play the Souls games too :)

Something tells me that those new to souls will catch the bug.

sorry couldnt resist

This is going to be worth it solely for hitting a bad guy with a giant hammer, then pulling a sword out of the hammer to hit them again.

I almost feel like this is Miyazaki taking the Dark Souls and Demon's Souls concepts and fusing them together with new ideas and old ideas with this incredible Lovecraftian, Victorian London esque steampunkish hammer horror Bram Stalker/Universal monster thing going on visually(and it looks stunning in the latest trailers). It really seems to take the mythology and history of that era and kind of twist it in a lot of ways, much like Demon's Souls and Dark Souls were a very Japanese twist on the typical Western Fantasy title.

Awwwww jeaah.

I know people spout Lovecraftian this and that, but people are seriously going to lose their minds when they see the stuff Miyazaki and co have been cooking up.

It could reach Dark Souls 2 level of accessibility for example multiple ways of healing, quick travel, multiple ways to negate negative effects or penalties, not doing real impact in the game, unnecesary enemies tactics like infinite poise or huge hitboxes to increase artificially the difficulty.

Or Worse, being able to use all the class/specs with any repercusion and create a unfair player in PVP.

Must admit its probably the first time ive ever seen it happen in a promotional trailer for a game thats supposed to be big on its cinematic's

Wow, I just... whoo boy.

Posts like this should probably not be touched with a 10ft clown pole, but goodness...

Just nabbed a PS4 for this thing.

Still pretty concerned about the PvP. It was at it's best when it was very freeform in DeS, where you had an good chance of being invaded by a noob. The more they've tried to regulate it, the worse it's become.

DaS thought gating invasions behind a tough boss and a missable covenant was a bright idea, instead it just ensured that anyone who ever invaded you ever was geared up enough to beat the 4 Kings.

DaS2 made it so prohibitively annoying to invade that tons of people turned to mules on consoles and CE on PC just to get around it.

Is it weird that this trailer manages to be really interesting without showing any new footage with just a V.O.?

Man, I can't wait to get my hands on that Kirk Hammer. Looks so amazingly satisfying every time I see it. I love having gigantic, hard hitting weapons in Souls games, and being able to so quickly switch it to the fast hitting sword as well looks like so much fun.

I love how this game looks so fun to play. I enjoyed Dark Souls and I think I'll enjoy this game even more simply because it looks so damn fun and stylish at the same time. It seems to hit the sweet spot between the fast, ferocious hack n slash gameplay of games like Bayonetta and the more methodical, measured gameplay of Dark Souls. I'm sure it's going to be tough as nails too so... I'm officially hyped.

Dont do this to me....

Sorry, I just love seeing people as excited as I am!

You cant just drop a bomb like this and leave.

Edit:
Actually, that was a pretty poor and potentially misleading description. Sorry. I will just say that looking at some of the concept art makes me feel a little bit sad (you know, in a doubting existence kind of way) and a little bit ill. The brain isn't quite sure what the eyes are supposed to be telling it.

Who said I left?
Try to conjure in your mind - if you will - cross-references of Beksiński art, the most morbidly fascinating photographs you care to recall, nuclear fire and that face room from Silent Hill 3... That's the best I can do without saying anything concrete. Honest to goodness, it can be hard to look at (in a good way).

*Googles Beksiński*

Oh my.

Oh god, i haven't been this excited for a game for a long time.

I hope it delivers, everything seems too perfect about this game, and that scares me.

Great trailer. Can't wait for this game, first and only PS4 exclusive I care about. Nice to see the voice actress for the Maiden in Black return, although it sounds like she lost some of her heavy accent, shame, I always liked that.

We always see the same location, and I'm a little bit concerned about that.

I hope the game has the same variety than DS (Ash Lake, Tomb of Giants, Sen's Fortress, Anor Londo, The Duke's Archives, Crystal Cave,...).

Souls games are a little power fantasy heavy to be Lovecraftian, but I wouldn't mind eldritch horrors or non Euclidean geometry anyway!

No reason to be concerned, all past Souls games have had good variety.

does this game have a magic system? just curious. I've mostly avoided info on the game.

I don't think so, but that's not confirmed.

Why are you concerned? Has Miyazaki ever gave anyone reason to be concerned with these games in the past? I don't understand this "concern" about variety. At all.

Did you see Anor Londo, Dukes Archives, Crystal Cave, Ash Lake before Dark Souls was released?

No. No one did.

UGH.

This is still so mesmerizing to stare at.

This latest Story Trailer looks so good.

I just hope its not bullshit IQ as I notice no hud/health bars etc yet this 'what appears to be gameplay footage' included looks soooooooo good!

So far, there's been nothing to confirm any type of spellcasting. Ranged attacks still exist with firearms.

Just from playing the alpha at PSX, the kirkhammer is quite possibly my favorite melee weapon in any game. Weight and sound design are nuts.
I'm usually not one for heavier weapons in Souls, this game is likely to change that.

Yeah, I suppose Eldritch horror was more the term I was looking for!
I do think the Souls games (or at least the premise) is more Lovecraftian than most games that claim homage to Cthulhu mythos and such. The protagonist may become stronger, but it's by no means a power fantasy. Particularly Dark Souls, with its themes of madness and practically a descent into hell. Some folk may write off Izalith as unfinished, but I really like its implications and the bizarre appearance of the Chaos Eaters.

Still, I think BB will transcend this and give us even more unspeakable horrors as we delve deeper and deeper into Yharnam and its mysteries.

UGH.

I appreciate the sentiment, but to be fair, people paying attention to each trailer would have caught snippets of most, if not all those places before launch.

In the same vein, perhaps we've already seen more of BB than we think ;)
Either way, I don't think there's anything to worry about. It may not quite reach the scale of the sprawling fantasy world of Lordran, but I believe it will have just as much diversity and intrigue in its locales.

Think I might be with you on that one. The concept alone gives me a huge nerd-on. A huge block of stone... Stick a sword in there and you have yourself a hammer... Just ridiculous.

I really hope there is an area close to water...the clocktower bellringing could only be surpased by a lazy foghorn near the coast.

There is an "arcane" stat...and apparently it at the very least govens some weapons' fire damage.

They said no magic, but there is kinda. They said no shields, but there kinda is....many surprises yet to come!

We just got a HQ-ish version of the trailer from Sony, it's with French subtitles though. We are looking for a raw version, of course:
