If DC is mediocre, I'm not sure what is good game anymore.

Sony has two separate methods of internal tracking. They have a group that collates total shipments, and a group that estimates sell-through.
The sell-through group reports sporadically with milestones.
Like, end-of-year sell-through, or 20 million LTD sell-through.
The shipment group reports PS4 shipment numbers reliably every quarter.
I wonder where the people that said PS4 sales would slow down are? I remember some people kept saying that the PS4 would slow down & that it's only selling because of launch hype.
It hasn't missed a beat since it launched nearly a year & a half ago.
If I remember correctly, the PS4 fell behind the Wii significantly in August, but holiday shipments ramped up & then it got within 300k by the end of last year.

2015 looks to be a good line up for more success. I hope to be getting a PS4 when Uncharted 4 drops.

We don't play games, you know. I put a copy of Killzone Shadowfall in my PS4 and stare at the graphics for two hours and call it a day.

I don't think this is really true, it was a launch bundled title, I bought two of them simply because they came with the console. In an awesome SF cover art box I should add. I don't think the games sales are reflective of it's quality or reception.

Im actually looking forward to the thread where we get to see The Order sales.
Based on my own observations here on Neogaf, the guys that get so upset over PS4 success are usually operating under some other agenda that has no connection at all to being (Self identified) PC gamers.

It's probably not gonna do too well (but I could see it still doing better than many recent console exclusive titles to be fair.).

That doesn't explain why it kept showing up in Amazon's top 100 consistently months after launch. & it's actually rated very highly on Amazon.

It's a shame we can't have a correct figure for the Bone.
It's doing terrible here in Europe, apart from the UK.
When you take into account the shipments to China (the company selling Bone here just reported losses), and how poorly it is selling there, makes me wonder by how much they beat the 10 millions mark.
Not that much if you want my opinion.

I don't understand one thing.... if Xbox One (according to Microsoft) was beta tested in the future, how come them beta testers didn't look at sale numbers and reported back to Ms HQ ( binary code or morse code) with the message: "Don't do it!"

This generation had a lot going for it, too. Really long gap, increasing people's eagerness to upgrade. Online gaming is very important now, as are annualized franchises. People wanting to continue those experiences, particularly with their friends and online gaming creating a tidal effect. The economy was just starting to recover in the launch timeframe too, and the launch price of the PS4 adjusted for inflation was really good.
I don't think anyone should be surprised. Mobile/tablets are still separate experiences for people than TV.
They want to be known as the worlds largest supplier of salt.

Point is: Consoles were dedicated chips with immense R&D behind it. They were ahead. High end (PC) machines were always close behind or about to be released soon after. You had to wait to get similar performance as a 360 out of a PC card. Not for long, sure, but the price was immense. The new situation is the out of the shelf hardware from modern consoles. There is far less "learning" and "coding to the metal" than before. There was already better stuff avaible for cheap even before launch. And thats new. Unprecedented. And no "lol how old are you, hurr durr" will change that. ^^

The PS4 has missed a lot of beats since it went on sale; it's just that when it has hit the beats, it's hit them extremely well. Historically well.
There are definitely people still on the "PS4 isn't selling well" train, but they're mostly looking at those small sample sizes. When the PS4 sold so poorly in January, there were many people in the NPD thread (and Media Create threads, of course), commenting on it. And it is true that the PS4 sold worse this January than the third place console did in the comparable January from last generation. Of course, these people have apparently already forgotten just how well the PS4 sold in November and December of last year.
Regardless, the point is that PS4 sales have been very bursty so far, and less "consistently very good" than the Wii or PS2 were before it. It's been either very, very excellent or mediocre -- but very, very excellent when it mattered most, during launch and during holidays -- resulting in "excellent" overall average sales.

??? It has a 90% digestibility rating. It has already sold out of its core stock and its not in the process of being replenished even though its still selling. It has already broken 500,000 and is almost at 600,000. How is that not selling great?

I was hoping for 800K. 46K for PS4 was also lower than what I was expecting. Clearly my estimation is far higher than most people based on the media create page.
Cool job that they allow you to keep your 3 piece gaming pc under your desk, grats.
Again, your not understanding...that was all they stocked! They sold out! They could never feasibly hit that number your suggesting without SE stocking that much to begin with in the first week

I think the PS4 is doing really well, even compared to the Wii, even though the Wii was 250 which was a perfect price for everyone, especially casuals.
$400 is a less price to swallow for plenty of people, but damn the PS4 is really impressing me. I think also we have to take into consideration the growth in markets where Sony has presence like Asia, Latin America, ME etc.... Sony has a great network to supply consoles world wide, and the growth in some of these markets offsets the decline in others, as far as i can see.
You also have to factor in the logistical issues Sony has seemingly faced with keeping units on shelves in the right places. There seemed to be a rush this time around to launch in most territories.
If you look at PS4 numbers in smaller increments (weeks, months), then you would probably suggest more bursts are happening but if you look in bi-months or quarters they appear more consistent.
