Rorona 3DS boxart is out

That's a bargain, considering I paid close to $100 for a used copy of the Ayesha soundtrack.

That's what I'll tell myself if/when I decide to buy this monstrosity, just before my wallet cries itself to sleep.

Wow, that sucks.

I got mine from BookOff while I was in Japan for, like... 2000 yen. Got the Eschatology one too for around the same price.

Should have picked up the Vocal albums too.

Missed opportunity there. The vocal albums are always amazing but Sky of Twilight's vocal version is pretty much the only acceptably awesome version of the song.

Having revisited Totori (plus) and getting the plat I think my opinion of the game has grown a lot.

There's something to be said about having an 'open world' atelier game (just because it's so different from virtually all the other PS3 games) where the main character still has a very strong motivation for what she does, and the payoff at the end was brilliant (even though kinda cliche and quite predictable) I mean, yeah, the crafting isn't anywhere near as complex as Rorona/Meruru but the entire focus was on exploring anyway. It had very, very strong Grandia vibes.

Only sour note was Gino being the most annoying little shit in potentially the whole series.

Totori is definitely my favourite out of the PS3 titles. It felt really open, especially coming from Rorona. Gino is annoying, yet somehow I ended up using him in Meruru! He grew up or something.

Time to ask the inevitable questions before tomorrow's sale.

If you only play one of the Arland trilogy on Vita, which one?

Or, if you only skip one, which one?

I'd play Totori and skip Rorona. Even after plus, Rorona is my least favorite of the three. And Meruru is best played after Totori, not as a starting point.

Totori is definitly the one to skip, it's still good and has the best story, but Rorona and Meruru are so much better in every other aspect that it's not worth it, Meruru is my personal favorite out of the trilogy

Rorona is the most structured, and has the nuttiest crafting endgame if you take the Plus bonus year into account.

Totori has the best story but the simplest crafting, and has a sense of openness/adventure not in the other two just because the game doesn't explicitly tell you what to do every step of the way. Some of the battles can get a little difficult since you can't craft-your-way-to-victory as much as the other two games

Meruru has potentially the best balance of the three, and plays half as an Atelier game and half as a kingdom development game if you're into that kind of stuff. You definitely feel like you make the most impact here out of the three games.

I think the subtitles (Alchemist, Adventurer and Apprentice) are pretty spot on regarding where each game excels. Ideally you really don't want to skip any of them since half the reason to play is the humor and character interaction and you miss out on a lot of in-jokes (not to mention spoilers, as unlikely as that sounds from Atelier games) from previous games if haven't played them.

p.s. my experience/opinion is a few years old, but I've been going through the Plus versions since the start of 2015, including buying Meruru Plus for full $40 a week ago adjfaisjdlaksdjflakfdf

This has been bugging me for a while in Arland trilogy.

If only the alchemists can use consumables, why do all the other characters keep requesting them?

MUH IMMERSION

they use them as just simple items, you know like you can request super computer and get it (with necessary funds) but then use it only to play games. ;)
It's like this

So, who's going to make the OT for Atelier Shallie?

Whoever does should probably put "no more time limit" in the title. People seem to be more interested when they see those words.

I should make my first OT

Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea | No more time limits, you fucking pansy

and what the hell happened to Vylash?

Falk

Somehow, I'm not pressured to get Shallie ASAP since there's no time limit.

I feel there's some kind of joke to be made here.

I figured I would post here since it seems to be more active than the Atelier Rorona+ OT. I just started this game last night and am enjoying it, but being the completionist I am (and also slightly confused): What are the deal with the endings?

I understand there are True, Good, Normal, Bad endings but also a number of character endings--is it possible to nab all of these in one playthrough? I ask because a previous wiki for the original PS3 game shows that I would need to trigger specific combinations to get different endings.

It's possible to get all of them in one go.

Make sure to complete all 10 stars on every season and get your popularity as high as it can go. The ~8 stars per season as per non-Plus guides does not apply anymore.

edit: to put it in a less obtuse way, your final outcome is judged two ways - how good an alchemist you are (completing tasks), and how liked you are by people (popularity). The True ending is when you succeed at both, "Good" and "Normal" (which are terrible descriptors really) are succeeding at one and failing at the other respectively, and the "Bad" ending is failing at both. So essentially your final judgement is divided into four possible outcomes in a 2x2 grid. Character-specific endings are each tied to one of the quadrants. In the original game, to get a specific character's special ending, you'd need to fall within that quadrant, and then select that ending (the game sorta asks you who you're thinking about). If you fall in a quadrant and select a character not belonging to that quadrant, you get the generic ending for that quadrant (true, good, normal, etc).

In Plus, you just need to fulfill the conditions for True ending (be successful AND well-liked) and the game gives you additional choice as to which quadrant you want to pick. Hence it's actually a lot less complicated.

Hope that made sense.

Thanks for this. I am also assuming that--as long as I do every character's events--I will also be able to nab all their character endings this way. Would that be right?

That's correct. The
Astrid
ending actually does require you to do every character's events in one playthrough. Generally it's not a problem as long as you keep checking, but it's possible to lock yourself out by e.g. killing a certain monster without a certain someone in the party at that time.

This and your previous explanation has clarified everything for me, really appreciate the time you took to answer my questions! Thanks a bunch.

What routes will you guys be doing first? Stera or Lotte?

I actually never played Lotte's route in Japanese. Gotta have something new to experience in the English release, after all. :)

I'm still doing Stera first though.
