I'm gonna guess it's a combination of these two.

A mobile device that has a dock for HDMI out + GPU + bluetooth controllers.

They used the word platform, which is also what they call amiibo. I wouldn't expect more than some kind of dongle that connects your phone to the wiiu/3ds/nextsystem for added bonuses.

Another "revolution", eh? I'm curious to hear more, but honestly I hope the Wii U still has a few years left in it. Them saying they'll talk about it more next leads me to believe we're at least 3 years from it.

I'm looking forward to years of discussion on how this third console is actually a repeat of the "third pillar" DS strategy and how it's really the future of Nintendo. :p

NX is a dope name. A step up from "Dolphin", and "Revolution". What was the WiiU codename?

Cafe.
Dolphin made sense because fucking every Ninty game had tons of water that gen (Sunshine, Windwaker, Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald).

I gotta wonder what the new gimmick is. I think they're gonna be more careful after mixed reception to 3D and the tablet concept.

Holy crap as said in the other thread, my stomach ache and need to vomit just increased...only because this is insane and my stomach is in a crazy position!

don't ask me for codes
Note that NX is a codename for the platform; not necessarily for a single hardware system.

Good catch. Nintendo Network ID is also considered a "platform", as I recall. So we should be careful how we interpret their meaning.

My guess: some sort of gaming tablet/smart-device. Probably not a phone.

Iwata's translator specifically said it's gonna be a bridge between mobile and consoles, so don't expect too much.

well there it is! not quite sure what "a bridge between mobile and consoles" is, but it's probably not the next gen handheld or console at the very least :p

Interesting. Makes sense to aim for the gap between mobile and full price releases. Embracing an identity as a secondary console isn't bad, especially since exclusives will still move units.

As long as it has buttons it can't be worse than actual mobile games.

I'm about to go to sleep, but I'll just drop in and say this sounds like confirmation of previous speculation of a hardware-agnostic software ecosystem (akin to iOS), possibly one shared by a handheld and a console.

They should just call it Nintendo's Last Stand because that's what it is. Guys if this doesn't sell then we're entering a brave new era where Nintendo only makes QoL devices and develops some games utilizing their existing IP's for smart devices.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
You know...NX could actually be the name for the OS, after all! Nintendo = N; Cross (multiple devices) = X

Yeah, NX sounds a lot like hybrid, now the question is if it's about the hardware itself or the framework.

Hybrid? Doubt it. They said no to that.

Handheld and console with same OS and similar architecture? Yes.

They also said they are not interested in smartphones.

But, yeah, I largely agree with you. It will probably be shared arhitecture/OS which will allow simultaneous development and lower costs.
