BloodBorne Sales Expectations : What are yours? What Could Sony's be ?

People who are predicting a high NPD number need to realize that they have to supply all of the WW markets, so US shipments may not be a high as they think. The US is only about a third of the total PS4 market these days.

I don't think that will be a factor. Producing software is not like supplying the hardware. If there are shortages it is because they underestimated the demand.

Bloodborne will for sure be looked at as a success by Sony / From.

PC version isn't happening for obvious reasons and we'll likely get a sequel to it as long as From has the manpower and time I'd wager.

I think an important thing to consider is that we're only seeing sold-out anecdotes sparsely.

Some shops, several Amazon regions, and a lot of stores in Tokyo.

If it's really sold-out to the extent that there's shortages across a large spectrum of outlets, we probably would've heard something about it by now.

God are people still asking for a PC version? Damn how silly can you get that is never ever happening. Anyway i've been thinking and this game shouldn't even be successful, it goes against every modern game convention and yet it's looking like it will sell many copies, simply amazing.

The art, the setting, and the style are mass appealing, the thing is: what will happen when people that knows nothing about it start to play it?

Shit, their entire company makes games like this haha.

Deserves to be Sony's best selling game this year, probably won't be though :(

My guess would be just over 1 million.

Honestly, many people still don't realize that Bloodborne is exclusive to PS4. When I last worked at my local Gamestop, I can't tell you how many people we had to explain to that Bloodborne was on PS4 only and not on Xbone. The franchise has gained a lot of followers now so I can imagine Sony is definitely liking what they are seeing.

Given the digital sale wont be taken into account, the million mark may be sooner than expected.

It's high time those were made public knowledge.

Eh, I'm expecting a million in 2 weeks, tops. Basically inFamous-tier performance.

Weaker sales upfront in US(NPD) compared to SS, but made up by stronger Japan performance, which will make up the difference in NPD. :p
I don't know, the PS4 trippled it's install base since second son...

You know that not everyone owns a PS4 right? On youtube you have a million salty pretzels in every Bloodborne video.
obviously but that doesn't change this case, dark souls 2 remastered is coming out on Ps4 as well, just not exclusively. moreover, it is the console with the highest install base and i'm pretty sure dark souls sold best on playstation last gen, and i'm guessing by a decent margin.
That doesn't make much sense to me also. Oh well, I will buy DS2.1 but at a discounted price as I won't be done this one for months.
so you're saying you won't get the remaster at launch. have you gotten bloodborne already?
actually a good move on Namco's part. Xbox one only owners can't play bloodborne, but might pick up on the hype and try out SOTFS anyway.

PS4 owners who skipped DS2 but are loving bloodborne might be chomping at the bit for more content. BB isn't really that long of a game, there are plenty of people in the OT that are on NG+ already.
once again though I don't think the xbone version will sell too well. i'll be surprised if i'm wrong though. most of the from software's fan base is probably on Ps4, and they just had a milestone title released just a few weeks before a remaster.

We should get UK numbers tomorrow. Not specific, but people are usually able to break down the range that games fall into. Dark Souls 2 opened at 38-43k there.

Install base matters, but it's not the end-be-all. Second Son sold better than inFamous 1/2 in the same time-frame, even with the lesser install base of the PS4.

When Uncharted 4 comes out spring next year, I expect it's first month sales to easily do better than Uncharted 3's 700k.

The strength of the IP and brand matters just as much as the install base.

Was walking through town earlier and couldn't find a copy of Bloodborne in HMV or CEX so it seems to be popular alright. They had it in GameStop but those jokers aye charging €75 so not sure how they sell a single copy tbh.

agreed. so perhaps the only thing to debate here is the strength of the new IP that is bloodborne.

Sounds like it is doing just fine if not exceeding expectations. I expect around 400k for npd. It wouldn't surprise me though if it is around 5th on the charts. It is a single platform release and the multiplat titles are almost always going to dominate the top spots.

I dunno but the only thing that told me that Bloodborne is released already was a lone collector's edition in a Gamestop, haven't seen a single regular copy of the game. Just gaps in the shelves.

How is relationship between Kadokawa and Sony? If Bloodborne sales are healthy and impressive, I can see Sony will try to secure more second party deals with Kadokawa after Bloodborne.

From I have read that company has a very strong relationship with Sony. They make PlayStation exclusives already and have more in production now.

Most of their games are exclusive to Sony platforms. They recently announced two new games that are PS exclusives. Project Code: Daten, which is a cthulu themed dungeon crawler, and a simulation RPG based on Japanese mythology named Project Code: Tsukiyomi. No specific platforms have been announced for them.

Cool! I very much look forward to more partnerships between them :)

Yeah, Kadokawa works well with Sony. Not to mention FROM themselves have a strong history with Shuhei Yoshida who was their account manager for their first PSOne game.

Well Kadokawa is a Japanese publisher of niche and hardcore games, by default they have to have a great relationship with Sony. Though pc market could be lucrative as well, but then they won't have the benefit of co marketing that Sony would offer.

Between 1 and 2 million. It's niche, but will appeal a lot of ultra-hardcore players that weren't interested on the series and needed more quality exclusive games.

Amazon US 2015 chart was updated in US.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2015/videogames/ref=zg_bs_tab_t_bsar#2

#29 Bloodborne

That means a better place than #40 Dying Light (PS4) and #48 The Order.

I'm continue to expect close to 500k in NPD March.

Uhhm, everyone has said Amazon is maybe 5% of the software sales for the NPD. I wouldn't take those rankings to heart.
The two people that are in retail sales and post on GAF are the ones that we should be listening to. One of them said BB will be closer to The Order. So, I wouldn't go crazy and predict 500K.

Wasn't that statement made regarding pre-orders for both The Order and BB? It happened long before reviews came out for Bloodborne.

They only know numbers for one retailer. They see more than we do, but still not the entire picture. Another insider alluded that numbers will higher than most are projecting.

I expect Hardline to be #1, but Bloodborne will do much better than The Order.

PlayStation dominated, but Bloodborne managed to snatch only #3. Could it be that Sony did not ship enough copies, or that PS4 install base is too small to ensure #1 position?

Hmm. :/

If Sony really did undership, then I don't understand their strategy. The game was always going to be 1 - 2 mil range total WW sales. Why not ensure being fully stocked at the begining of lifetime when profit margin is highest?

One Piece and Sword Art Online are actually fucking huuge in Japan. You shouldn't expect a new IP to beat those two.

Probably the latter if we are talking Japan. Ps4 has not been selling great there
