Halo Online modders working to strip micro-transactions, release worldwide

Microsoft has been saying they are going to "take PC gaming seriously" for how long now?

Since they don't seem to want to do the only thing that would prove that (putting Halo on PC) I'm glad modders will do it for them. Microsoft won't give it up willingly, I'm glad the modders will take it forcibly.

Even if it is just some version of Halo 3, a game from 2007.

So just because Microsoft hasn't put Halo on PC fast enough for you, it's okay to steal from them and break the law? You're basically saying that if you don't get what you want when you want it, it's ok to go out and forcibly do so without the owners consent. That is a terrible way to live life in my opinion.

Not at all.

However what I am ok with is seeing MS with egg in their face after years of promises that they are putting a bigger emphasis on PC gaming, only to release what most MS fans on PC have been asking for...... Only for Russia lol

I'm not seeing the "egg on MS face" thing. How is this making MS look bad? Sure, they are playing "Whak a mole" with pirates (which is a losing cause), but all it seems to me is that the chance of the software being delayed to combat piracy is increasing. Which damages both MS and the consumer.

All for the "Noble cause". lol....No, its their ego that is being served.

The modders have made a glorified trainer, if thats piracy then i dont even know.
No code has been used that isnt owned by the modders. Their files merely inject data into the game to change the way it behaves, like a trainer does.

You could have made this easy, MS. I hate to see all this going on, when you know the thirst is real among PC gamers for Halo.

Yeah this honestly bothers me more than anyone modding a F2P game, MS knows the desire for Halo on PC in the West is extremely high but never acts on it.

I suppose Halo can keep being a prop for a single hardware platform instead. Such wasted potential, especially given how powerful the IP is.

Whaattt??? Have you been not paying attention for the past 4-5 months? They bringing more and more games to PC including Fable Legends with cross-platform play. They are trying to get developers to build games into the Xbox platform (achievements, social, etc), game recording for any game including steam games.

You want modders to break rules/laws just because you can't get an old game on your platform of choice? Ok.

This is hacking/stealing....not a "mod".

I love trainers/mods that alter games that are single player and not designed to be given out for free with paid options. That's ok....this isn't.

The fact that its region locked justifies it to some. I'm not saying that it's right, pirates don't need politics or reasons, it just serves as the fuel to some.

Ms probably wanted to test ftp halo, Russia is big into ftp, and thought it made sense. The logic that the hackers wanted to free this game from pay-to-win when the game is barely formed, is bullshit. They just wanted to steal it. Good way to shut it down before it even gets started.

These days good moral (Mostly PC users who always want them cheap in sales or free someway) does not exist. We already have choice for non F2P game as Halo 5 and collection so why trying to ruin this F2P game by modding? Its not even launched yet but they are targeting. if you don't like F2P micro transactions then don't buy them or play this game so developers will stop them slowly.

The quickest way for this project to go limp would be for MS to announce/release MCC for the PC with Halo 5 release on X1. I think that would please everybody involved. A lot of people hate pay to win mechanics. I would like to play SP campaigns on PC and have up to date ports of Halo 1 and 2 along with 3 and 4. I do own an X1 with MCC, but I'm holding out hope (maybe unwisely).

There are a lot of PC gamers that buy stuff day one. However, we love good deals. Please don't generalize like that. We want Halo on PC, both SP and MP. Also, people don't want to have to buy an X1 to get that. MS hasn't even bothered updating Halo 1 and 2 pc ports to run on modern systems without GFWL.

And some people still get shocked when some companies refuse to release their games on PC... For me this kind of "mod" or "hack" is just as bad as piracy. instead of PC community be mad at companies that don't release their games on PC, they should be mad with these kind of "mods", they are the ones to blame...

Yes...Let compromise the game. Nothing says "Yea lets play" like a game that has players that may or may not be on a common field.

Maybe they can add a "trainer" that allows for triple damage and never miss.

I guess I'd be more opposed to this kind of thing but...

1. There is no way for anyone else besides Russia to play this game in its current state.
2. Microtransactions in Halo makes me want to gag myself.

Still feel uneasy about it since it's essentially piracy.

It's funny because stuff like this is part of the reason Microsoft doesn't invest more into Windows/PC gaming.

Not that I think Microsoft's mindset is right.

So if the game isnt on PC how can mods like this exist? Your post makes no sense. Companies are taking revenge on PC modders who mod games they havent released on PC? hmmm

I myself am not doing anything of the kind. I am just happy it is happening :)

Someone had once made a post/thread with a long list of all the times over the past decade Microsoft had said they were finally "going to start taking PC Gaming seriously". It's pretty much a running joke when they bring it up once a year.

Well, I'm glad now the joke is on them, even if just a tiny bit.

In my opinion the region locking doesn't matter. Do I agree with it? No, I think the game should be available to as many people as possible. However, just because I don't like Microsoft's strategy doesn't mean I think its okay to commit copyright infringement/piracy/theft to get what I want. I don't think you can sit on the fence and say that the act is justifiable but then claim that it also isn't right; this seems like a black and white/right vs wrong kind of thing to me.

Heck, we don't even know what kind of micro-transactions will be in the finished product or if it truly is pay to win. These thieves made an assumption and took it upon themselves to create something that they wanted without Microsoft's permission. That is called stealing.

I am just saying that many developers don't apreciate seeing their work being raped by moders like in this situation, so many won't care about a PC release and this is one of the reasons.

At this point, we need to wait for E3 and see what MS does. If I REALLY need to play Halo, I will just play MCC on X1 or buy Halo 1/2 on PC and deal with GFWL.

Fable Legends, Ori and the Blind Forest, Below (if it ever comes out... *shakes fist at cert team*), AOEII HD & Rise of Nations HD (old games, but hey). They're putting more stuff on Steam than ever before. Shit, the new CEO's mandate is about being platform agnostic.

Most won't care about a PC release because it's only getting a release in Russia. If anything this shows MS how much people outside of Russia want something like this. At best, MS sees the want and gives the rest of the world the game (and makes more money in theory) at worst they keep it RU only and modders get it out there for the rest.

Hasn't the F2P space moved away from pay-to-win and is going towards cosmetics? I am still confused why MS would put in a p2w mechanic.

I hope that after all this, MS notices that there are a lot of players waiting anxiously to play Halo on PC. I just hope that it isn't a F2P game if it launches eventually.

I'd pay full price for a Halo 3 with perfect netcode/matchmaking/dedicated servers

Ori and the Blind Forest I guess.

LoL. My point exactly.

Every time they promise to "Take PC gaming seriously" they throw up a title or two as some appeasement but then forget about the supposed initiative until some new suit is in power.

Look, I get why they can't launch Halo 5 day and date with PC, they gotta sell Xbox Ones. But there is a middle ground between not hurting platform sales and openly mocking PC gamers with how you are totally not gonna take them for granted anymore.

Like putting out the MCC this summer on PC to entice PC gamers to get an Xbox One for Halo 5. As for Halo 5, they could put it on PC a year after its Xbone launch. Instead, they just give us Halo 2 but only if we upgrade to Vista (lol) and insult us with shit like Spartan Assault.

So ya, while I would never pirate myself and have no real interest in playing a version of a nearly ten year old game on my PC, I am glad this is happening. Because fuck Microsoft. They don't wanna ever value PC that's fine, but stop lying to our face.

Soooo....one AAA, an indie, and remakes? Awesome, I feel valued! lol

And if his mandate is to be platform agnostic, I fully expect to see Halo 5 and MCC on PC right?

ID@Xbox. Gigantic is being published by Microsoft on PC and Xbox.
State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition will be released April 28th on Xbox One and Steam.

Windows 10 isn't released yet and there's a few events happening before it that should announce more.

Microsoft are blind. If you gave PC gamers something like the MCC collection or even just Halo 3 or something with mod tools etc. shock horror, people would buy it, play it, be fantastically creative. A bigger Halo community. No, I wouldn't sell my Xbox and go PC only. Enjoy both if you can or whatever flavour. Win both ways you fools. If Microsoft are developing MCC or similar for PC right now then I apologise.

Is it really wrong for modders to make this game available to everyone?

If it is only going to be released in russia, it's not like we have an alternative to access the game or even pay for the microtransactions.

I think an analogous situation is something like netflix/hulu/network websites requiring VPN. I mean i want to give them my monthly subscription fee, please let me watch it outside the US/UK/whatever. If you ban my way to access you (VPN), what legitimate alternative do i have besides torrenting?

How is this necessary, exactly?

Wait, was this sarcasm? World doesn't work like that.

Whenever you hear "entitled gamers" and wonder what it means think back to this moment.

Is this piracy advocacy? Because if definitely sounds like piracy advocacy. =/

I'm not advocating anything, just an outside spectator. Don't play the morality card on me.

Fixed.

We will just have to wait and see. It could just be Windows 10 holding back the rest and copying features of Steam but I still leaning on not seeing too many. How can Microsoft not look at the community, creative, marketplace features in Steam and think, yeah no, not for us, anybody fancy a season pass ?

Maybe not right away but they are certainly laying the groundwork for that to be able to happen by investing in their own marketplace again. I don't think it's too crazy to think the next gen Xbox will just be a PC locked to the Win10 store with a console wrapper and games would be available to any Windows PC.

If I keep saying that it will eventually become true.

Yeah lets criticize an initiative that just started a few months ago for lack of games when they've already stated that other big Xbox franchises would come to PC in the future.

You guys act like its so simple to put halo on pc when it's the Xbox ones main selling point for many. They'll announce MCC for pc probably after halo 5.

I don't think MS is blind, per se. I think that priorities are divided. They want to please there Xbox fan base, some who are opposed to having ports to PC, and the PC gaming fanbase. Earlier, MS had to establish the Xbox brand, so Xbox became a priority. Now, things are different. We have Apple and Google with their ecosystems that range across multiple devices.MS wants this badly. They are going to have to throw PC gamers a bone with a major AAA franchise port to the PC while still pleasing their Xbox fans. I can deal with waiting a year or so for an AAA port. However, we will see their plans soon enough.

Why would MS put MCC on PC to entice players to get Halo 5 for the Xbox One if players will now just wait for Halo 5 on PC?

Why would MS put Halo 5 out on PC after a year when they can still get money from inevitable GOTY editions and promoting the HCS?

What does Microsoft really gain from putting out their main titles on PC when they are positioned to be one of the main factors to buy an Xbox?

Those two reasons are why this isn't being called out more ferociously. Lots of people see it as taking the real game back from a giant corporation's bad business model.
