Chris Pratt is not the new Harrison Ford, he's the new Brendan Fraser.

Nope. Chris Pratt is far more likable then both Bredan Fraser and Harrison Ford and probabaly more talented too. There will never be another Ford because Ford got so lucky playing iconic roles (Star wars/Indi) that he could shit out anything he wanted for the next 30 years and still have a career.

How about Chris Pratt is just Chris Pratt? There is literally no way we can predict this, for all we know he could decide to only act in art house films next year, or he could quit it all to pursue a career in rap. Literally no way to predict this.

Does Harrison Ford have "mega-star icon quality" though?

Honest question. Because his two biggest movies are still the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies, and those were a long time ago.

He's had a pretty lukewarm career since then. And he's never been known for his acting chops.

Well he did star in the best movie of all time : The fugitive

At least Pratt has a set blockbuster film future for the next 5 years until Avengers 3.

Fraser was like Mummy 1, Mummy 2 and then Looney Tunes.

Here's the thing. Ford was the star of Indiana Jones, Blade Runner and Star Wars. 99% of A-list actors don't have one movie as good as those three movies. Yes Ford has made a thousand terrible movies since then, but who cares. He was the star of three of the greatest action movies of all time.

Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck (so far), Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Angelina Jolie or any other big actor hasn't made a single movie as even half as action packed as those three movies.

Harrison Ford is a legend and will be no matter what he does at this point.

Not only is this thread three years too early, but it seriously undermines the dramatic, actorly, talent that Ford brought to his parts, however lighthearted they were. The jury is still out on Pratt.

How about he's the new Chris Pratt and let him carve out his own career without being compared to vaguely similar actors.

The next Harrison Ford or the next Han Solo?

Blade Runner wasn't some mega hit for him like Indy or Star Wars, it was a flop. Shit, his character is downright unlikeable and cold (which makes sense) there. People don't idolise Deckard so much.

While Han Solo is lovable and is an archetype to aspire to.

Why would he want to be Harrison Ford? Fords not a good actor? His two biggest movies were both Lucas involved because he was a cheap virtual unknown at the time. Not because he was an amazing actor.

Ford is basically Sam Worthington's predecessor.

Hair? LOL. Matthew McConaughey was going full bald in the 90s, and look where he is. Actors are all about plugs and finasteride. Nobody in Hollywood goes bald any more.

I love this shit. The cycle of people absolutely loving someone to totally hating them gets shorter every day. Chris Pratt's killed it everything he's ever been in minus a set of mediocre trailers for a movie no one's seen and all of the sudden he's slated to be the star of Furry Vegeance 2.

It's like how people actually think that Jennifer Lawerence and Michael Fassbender are bad actors because they take up too much time in their X-Men movies, or because Lawerence was annoying as a character that was supposed to be annoying in American Hustle.

I've learned to ignore GAF when it comes to the quality of actors. On a site that has some odd consensus opinions, GAF's repeated love affairs and falling outs with actors is the strangest.

This has managed to be an even worse comparison than the OPs.

Actually watch them both in their movies. They're so similar its scary. Both bland, cant emote anything other than anger or indifference and basically play the same character in each movie.

I think Anchorman 2 was the first time I saw Ford play something other than Harrison Ford. Even then it was a role that required he play an exaggerated version of himself.

There's never going to be as iconic a male action hero as Ford, so it's just a bad comparison to anyone. That said, I really like Pratt, way more than Fraser.

Also, the people saying Chris Pine would make a good Indy are insane. I hate him, absolutely not likeable or funny.

The next Harrison Ford or the next Han Solo?

Exactly.

Blade Runner and The Fugitive are good, but Tommy Lee Jones is the more iconic Fugitive character and Deckard isn't an iconic, idolized character.

What we're talking about are Han Solo and Indiana Jones. I very strongly doubt Pratt can be either one of those either though. That's a specific archetype which Ford could play to perfection without needing to act. If it would require acting to do it, you probably can't do it at all... which isn't an awful thing, just because you aren't Han Solo doesn't mean you're a Brendan Fraser character. There's a third option of "Chris Pratt character." But he's closer to being Rick O'Connell than to being Han Solo, so this thread makes a good point.

Harrison Ford is a much better actor with a more accomplished Filmography.

The younger generation only knows him from Star Wars and Indy movies, but Harrison Ford's best performance was probably in Witness. He also did quite well in The Fugitive and Air Force One.

Maybe Pine or Pratt go on to have several decade long successful careers and someday are mentioned in the same breath as Ford, but they are not there yet.

pratt is pretty much top tier in the hollywood hierarchy at this point, about where Harrison was at that age, if not higher.

even at the height of his popularity Fraser never came close to that

Yep.

Also who was Harrison Ford? Who was Harrison Ford compared to?

Brendan Fraser is straight up a better actor than either Pratt or Ford.

He made some of the most baffling career moves of all time, and gets treated like a joke now, but that wasn't always the case. He showed he has dramatic chops in Gods and Monsters and The Quiet American, was a convincing action hero in the Mummy films, and has a knack for comedy, especially physical comedy.
