That was awful.
Saw on reddit that someone on twitter (possibly credible based on past leaks) has been saying that the tats are just a thing for the 75th anniversary and that they aren't actually part of the look. Can't say I believe them considering the 'he said, she said' trail.

This sounds like the plan. They are grounding him, and that includes grounding his image with the public, they don't want him to be this mythical figure, they want us to feel him as a real lunatic, again. The look could work if they're going for a demythifcation of Joker
Juggalo.Anyone know what the "J" might stand for on his face? The plot thickens. Hmmm..

Juggalo.
Yeah that. With him being "ungraceful" and "uncool" they are making him more like.. real thugs.I was going more for a humiliating unatractive portrayal, imagine a Breivik like lunatic
I hope this line gets in the movie, make it an after credits scene even.

What's interesting to me is that, in 2007, Batman Begins complaints were common enough that people were already beleagured by it.
Now it's *clearly, easily* the best of all the Nolan films.
I like it.
At this point, if the tattoos don't make the final cut, it's because WB is back peddling on a shitty idea. Nothing else.
Ehh, that doesn't look very good to me. Not a fan of the grill or tats. Hopefully he's not shirtless the whole time. I was hoping for an Endgame inspired look. Leto is a good actor so I'll wait to see the performance before final judgment, obviously, but my initial raccoon is disappointment.
Is making him look like the new comics really that hard? How is the one in the left inferior? How is the other better in any way?
I really, really don't get it.
Reminded me of this prick:
Perhaps they want the live action depixtion to be different than his comics/animated appearance. The one on the right isn't better, but it's not necessarily worse. Criminals are very into fullbody tattoos. Aside from the face and hand ones, it's unlikely that you'll see them very often. Is making him look like the new comics really that hard? Lol, phone auto correct is a bitch. Meant to say reaction.
Reading through these threads sure is interesting

I just hope the story is good and that something happens to ledger so that they'll have to change actors.

The Joker has a very high opinion of himself so
A bit of narcisism in tattoos isn't unlikely. As far as the smile goes, that just depends on the lipstick and Leto's real mouth.
It's a new take that fits with the characters personality. Or at least some takes on his personality over the last seven decades.
But, comics are constantly changing appearances and looks. And, the result on film is mixed. Some straighter adaptations failed, like Spawn orGhost Rider and some drastic changes were a great success, like Fox's X-films or Reimi's Spiderman.See my problem is, How many times have the "We will change it and make it better!" Approach has worked?
Sure MARVEL has made significant changes, but it has certainly kept it's character's aesthetics and recognizable designs as much as possible. TDK also had iconic designs that even if different, captured the character's original look in some way.
Then we have Deadpool (Origins), Galactus, Catwoman, Constantine, Blogger Hobo Doom,....I can go on.
These are real good examples of "If it ain't broken, don't fix it". I feel like besides MARVEL, and very recently, some teams at FOX,Studios are STILL ashamed of making "lolComics" movies, they think they have to "fix" the comic bookiness....and It never works.
Suicide Squad is not that well known of a property, think Guardians of the Galaxy, and the pull of having The Joker, is absolutely gone with this move. You cannot ride on his popularity anymore, as you said, this joker now has to prove itself with the odds and opinion against him.
I'm aware Leto can make a masterful performance, but with those precedents, I feel pessimistic.
EDIT: Seriously, just Imagine Death of the Family on film...I am totally aware this will NEVER happen
Wow.. That was like some garbage ass juggalo trap music. That dude looked like the biggest poser lol

The Joker is going to be recognizable as the Joker. Toss on a purple shirt and green vest and he'll be good to go. It will be no more drastic than Superman's MoS look compared to the comics. And, the Joker has some of the most wildly different looks in comics, cartoons and film people are ysed to him always looking different.
And, the odds are in this movies favor. It's a comic book movie with the most popular villain in it. A bomb would be $500 billion for Suicide Squad.
