I've got a couple questions for those out there playing the game:

-What do you get out of the treasure boxes? You mash A, and get some shiny things absorbed by your character, but its not armor pieces or anything, I don't think. Is it some resource?
-What purpose does the random bystander dialog serve? You pass by an NPC in NLA, and a light gets absorbed by your character, kinda like the treasure boxes. Are these quests, or just extra info?
-What are the rental party members like? Is there some kind of limit on using them?
-Do any of the "named" party members (like Elma, as opposed to the rental guys) have special arts or abilities? Do they use the same branching class system your main character does?

Tempted to change to Forcer eventually, so I can become a Galaxy Knight (also known as the best class name in existence).
I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants to follow that class path almost entirely because of the name. They seem to have some useful healing skills too that'll definitely help, but yeah, I just want to be a Galaxy Knight dammit.

Completely agree with all your other impressions though. Simple quests suck and are just something you'd just pick up a bunch of in case you happen to do them by accident wandering around.

That said, I'm probably going to stop playing this until mid next week because this game's broken me and made me order a new TV. The vast scale of the world's just too good to waste on a 32" TV from 10-12ft or so across the room.

Amazon Japan is notorious for people giving 1-star scores to tons of games after launch, so although it's worth noting any common complaints, I wouldn't pay much attention to the scores, themselves.
Also, as far as Amazon scores go, this. They're completely worthless, just ignore them. Unless the game is literally known to be unplayable you can basically disregard all 1 star reviews as being written by bored 2ch users or petulant children.

How's the performance? The slowdown in XBC was a negative for me so I was wondering how much better this game handled.

Playing the download version and the loadings are super fast and I haven't noticed any slowdowns. Textures can take a second to appear correctly, but that's not a big deal.

My team's looking good. Really like this armor set, especially since my character's facial expression is a bit annoying. Good thing that it's easy to hide it.
I'm finally done with prerequisites to chapter 6, having to clear 20% of the forest was a bit annoying, but I hope I can get my Doll tomorrow.

- Inner experience, money and sometimes data probes.
- extra info, if it's a yellow one, it will give you quest information about certain map segment.
- no dolls?
- Yes and yes, but you can't change their class.

Going in at this moment

For the record, I did Xenoblade and it's one of my favorite RPGs of all time. So yeah, I'm curious to see what how different of a beast it is. :p

I have the three Xenosaga games on PS2 too, though after playing a bit more than an hour of the first one I choked and never came back. Maybe I should give it a better chance in the future.

Xenosaga 1 takes a bit of time before it really gets going. The beginning is a bit of a slog. The series is worth playing imo. Even 2 which takes even longer since the battles take forever at the beginning of the game before you level up and gain more skills. 3 is a masterpiece. At least play 3 and catch up with the story on YT or something beforehand but I think it is more impactful if you actually play all 3 since the cast is great and you will appreciate them more by playing the game.

I haven't played a ton yet, but the frame rate seems to stick at 30 and not fluctuate. I haven't noticed any drops yet. No screen tearing, either, so good on that front.

The LOD pop-in stuff is quite noticeable, though. I'm playing it installed on an external USB drive, so I don't know if moving it to the internal memory would help.

LOD pop-in in general annoys me greatly, though, so I guess it depends on your sensitivity level.

I think the game looks decent enough considering the scale they're going for. You can tell they spent most of their time on polishing the areas out in the wilderness. Some of the vistas are awesome. In and around the town, however, ehh... not so much.

Is there a way to remove the on screen ui bits related to controller inputs? Every screen/video I've seen of combat has them there :(

Does anyone have experience with solarisjapan.com? I might be able to get a bundle from them but not too sure if they're reliable or not.

Those miiverse screens are beautiful.

I've only ordered something there once. No complaints, it arrived pretty quickly and without any damage.

Well whatever that thing is. I'm going explore it, regardless if it's worthwhile or not.

I'd just climb to the top of some strange rock formation just because.

Probably going to take me like 500 hours to finish this game because I look over anything that catches my eye, even if some pointless pebble on the ground. I must explore everything.

I'd consider to buy if the price were fair. It's ¥10.000 more than the recommended price (free money for the website), and almost ¥10.000 more for the shipping (and the risk of being spotted at customs...) :|

Almost 500€ without customs.

Yeah, uh, Yeah...1,2 3, 4 oooooh oooh

Thanks for posting a couple of my faves (NLA day and Uncontrollable).

It could totally work within the context of the game, but just standalone it sounds like some guy was just screwing around with his new recording program.

IMO, it works in the game. It has a pseudo-ambient quality as the backdrop to NLA.
I could see the inspiration being the effect you get from hearing snippets of everyone's car radios in a busy city.
