Awesome, I liked X it wasn't as good as the earlier series but it was a big step up from IX.

Quite mildly pleased about this. Thought it peaked at 5, season 6 I thought not as bright as some people rate it but a good romp, season 7 almost bad, season 8 OK but spotty and the Back To Earth special...fuck me.

Series X though got a few decent smiles and it was comforting to watch. Even two more series in the vein of X would suit me. It'll never hit the glory days again but at this point it doesn't have to.

Great news, can't wait.

Even if its best days are long gone I don't care,I still love all the new stuff and want to see everyone again.

X was so flat - yes, better than Back To Earth, but that's not saying much at all. Really wish they'd just let this go, and I say that as virtually the only person on the planet who didn't mind series VII and VIII. The cast are too old, the jokes are increasingly formulaic and lazy, and any edge that was once there has long gone. Will I watch? Might well, because it's still Red Dwarf, but only a shadow.

I thought Series X was better than anything in Series VII or VIII. I mean we all know Series V was the peak of the show, but X wasn't bad.

X was Xcellent so always looking forward to more Red Dwarf, even if it does kind of remind me of that joke from the Simpsons about Star Trek: So Very Tired at this point.

Edit: Wait a minute... I have some catching up to do. I haven't seen season 9 or 10. I wasn't aware they had brought it back after season 8 In 99.

original cast and writer?

BEST NEWS EVER

well yeah same as Series X...but theres still no Rob Grant. Red Dwarf's writing quality took a nosedive as soon as he left (S7) and it never recovered imo

also the age of the cast isn't an issue. in a way, it could be the best thing about these new episodes. They're lightyears away from earth, lister is the last human alive, and they are getting old. It's something that can really provide a lot of story and jokes

As long as they don't have Lister pick up a polymorph thinking it's a space phone.

"4291?!"

Yep. That's a really good point.

While Red Dwarf X wasn't as good as 1-6, I thought it was far better than 7, 8 and Back to Earth. Can't wait for this!

Bang on. I haven't even gotten around to Series 10 as 7, 8, and Back to Earth were painfully bad. I don't think I even made it through all of 8, it was just awful.

Rob Grant is sorely, and very obviously, missed.

Excellent news. The last few seasons haven't been top stuff, but I did like X and when I chatted with Doug Naylor a while back there was still obvious passion for the property. So yeah, I'm hopeful this will be good and won't be a cash-in sort of thing.

All 6.

I'm quite happy, 10 was a huge improvement on the mini-series and in many ways 7 and 8. Average Red Dwarf is still better than most of the shit out there.

Quoted for truth. :)

10 is really good, honestly. Its Series V style writing and humour, and its also filmed in front of a live audience (7,8 and 9 weren't).

I love Red Dwarf but I don't feel like the later seasons were on par with the early ones.

I'll stay midly optimistic about these and will certainly watch.

Switch Back 9

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
Eh, I watched like ten minutes of one of the newer seasons and just couldn't do it. They just look so old and tired, and it's lost that late 80s early 90s washed out aesthetic I loved so much.

Tried watching Back to Earth. Couldn't finish. I guess I haven't seen X.

Grant hit my sense of humor better. Not excessively positive about this even though it's more Dwarf.

I wonder if we'll ever find out the consequences of Rimmer kicking the grim reaper in the meat and two veg?
