Ah we missed you for the NFs (did get shitty drops though), but you were probably at work. Save some weeklies for me, I still need to do those, maybe tonight?

Yep, was at work (actually finished early today otherwise I'd still be there now). I'll be around to do weeklies later if you're doing them, may as well get them out of the way today rather than doing 3 last minute again.

First NF done and got a rubbish CCL - I don't think I've ever died as much as I just have as well. Thanks for the run Rymuth and MiniMe.

I hope for Etheric light from NF it drops 5x+ instead of just one.

Fate Bringer
Black Hammer
Corrective Measures
Hunger of Crota
4 pieces of armor.

It's probably only going to be one Etheric Light from NF IMO. Bungie is being more generous but 5x+ is extremely too generous for Bungie IMO.

BTW You only need three pieces of armor plus one exotic to get to 34 though.

If I get three Etheric Light from NF then I am not sure if I should
1) Max one character to 34, or
2) Max three characters to 33 with one Etheric light each and one Exotic, or
2) Max out my FB and some other weapons and wait for 42 light PoE armor to drop...

Third Nightfall reward was a shitty FWC Sniper. Ascendant Shards, I guess.

At least I finally got the raid boots for my Warlock. Gonna see if I can get her to 32 before my VoG run later.

Boots are ugly with Predawne shader, though. Clown shoes.

So having reached level 12, I thought I'd share some thoughts on how I'm finding the game now I'm over halfway to level 20:

1) The moment-to-moment combat is very, very fun. Despite the cookie cutter mission design (hold square at point of interest, defend wave of enemies) I'm genuinely surprised how much I'm enjoying it. The weapons I'm using are satisfying (particularly my sniper rifle) and all of the enemies seems to have a decent amount of 'toughness' to them - even when I'm overleveled.

2) I'm not feeling too underleveled in PvP. My first game of Control sucked - I got zero kills and was getting one-shotted by levels 30s all over the place. Coming back at level 12 seems to have made a difference: I'm defeating said levels 30 one-on-one and I don't feel like there's that big of a gap anymore. I'm actually contributing to my team now.

3) Finally, the story is opaque and at times incomprehensible. I think the comparisons to Halo are particularly relevant here: as I've heard others say, at least Halo was grounded with the military outside of the Covenant and the Forerunners and the associated lore. Destiny up to
Venus
has been incredibly abstract, not really contextualising enemies or what even important figures like the Traveller are beyond a swift introduction. Outside of defeating The Darkness at some point by
going to a garden
I'm not sure where the story is heading. This, for me, is the most disappointing aspect of the game given Bungie's history.

Overall I'm enjoying the game at this stage. I'm glad I held off from buying around launch and I'm looking forward to House of Wolves apparently reducing the grind and adding more content. In the relatively near future I'm hopeful of joining in one of Hawkians newbie raids too.

1) this is pretty much the main reason people come back to this game over and over again

2) if you're playing regular control then it doesn't matter what your level is, you do the same damage as them. But the level 30s will have access to better weapons and therefore be able to kill you faster than you can kill them.

3)the story is largely incomprehensible and everyone has given up on it. And don't worry you don't need to spoiler tag anything. The games been out for ages and it's not like there's much in the story anyway.

Glad to hear your enjoying it and you should be happy to know, the grind was significantly worse before. Especially for players from the base game. Even still the changes coming from HoW are very welcome and lot of us feel these should have been there from the start tbh

NF gave me shit . . . but got Shattered Vault Cloak from Gorgon's and Ghost Angel Cloak from ranking up with Vanguard. Honestly, I'd rather have these than a new exotic. Thank you RNG and CthuluSars for bringing me luck!

First of all, highly offended that I got bumped to the second team just because I didn't participate for 6 weeks or so.

I'd definitely prefer to be in the 8:30 EST group. 9:30 is a bit late for me to start a full slate like this. But I'm in.

This game is getting worse...
Why don't put a button (for example, R3) that allows to counter super and otherelse? Like titanfall!
Where are Europa and Mercury? Only one map for crucible on mercury...
Come on!

Nf Rewards today

Trolly problem, ok
Payback sos, not ok
Dragons breath, aka 7 stange coins, aka exotic shard. Its ok, i have alot of exotics i want to max in a couple weeks.

As someone who likes writing stories, I've gone about patching as many the holes in the leaky ship that is Destiny's story with whatever I can. It seems pretty obvious at this point Bungie's not super interested in giving us anything cohesive, so any time I had a question I couldn't find a legit answer to that didn't involve mystical vagaries and hand-waving, I'd just make something up. The art in this game is too amazing to be wasted on the BS explanations they've furnished upon us.

I'd recommend doing the same or just ignoring it altogether for the moment.
...

Actually, In a related thought, I live in the Seattle area and have a friend who's also a writer. She was interviewing not too long ago for a job with Bungie. I never put that together before, but if they're actively hiring writers, maybe they are looking to fix this nonsense. Whether or not whoever they hire actually does fix it, that's another story. But maybe we really will see a new focus on story come Comet? One can only hope.

Thanks. I'm glad to hear that my impressions are pretty much in line with everyone elses.

Re Control and level 30s, yeah, I can definitely tell they have better weapons; there are quite a few instances where I just been one-shotted now. Still, I'm enjoying Control at the very least (I haven't really played any of the other modes).

Also, where can I read about how HoW is reducing the grind? I'm interested to see what's being implemented. That said, it may be more difficult for me to realise how big the changes are given that I wasn't around at launch.

I got talked into playing this again as some friends need more people for raids. I have a level 28 character that hasnt been touched since november. I know the new dlc is supposed to change leveling up but anything i should know before waasting resources on improving this character?

I am not really sure where exactly you can get ALL the info..

I would check the bungie weekly updates, reddit and the podcast 'Mythocast' where it was a bunch of us talking about HoW.

The only grind they reduce is post level 20, allowing us to level up our old weapons and armour without resetting perks and being able to buy almost max level armour. Those are the main things so far. But as you said, it really won't mean much to you if you haven't don't the end game stuff yet.

You're good. The potential to do so (waste time/effort/resources) is being decidedly minimized due the progression revamp in HoW.

I'd be interested if anyone has a link to something about this too. Just hit level 22 doing a few level 20 dungeons / some PvP and am looking into getting more Light gear,

Your going to want to level it, will make going into trials of Osiris/prison of elders much easier on you.

Then if you so choose you can upgrade your existing raid armor to push you to light level 34.

So I got max glimmer. Is there still nothing worthwhile to spend that shit on? And is there a point to messing around with the factions? Their weapons are a collective meh, and they don't seem to be getting any new inventory.

Have you read Hawkian's post level 20 guide? Good info in there.

Vendors already sell level 31 armour so that would be my first port of call. You can level them up doing vanguard strikes for vanguard vendors and playing PvP for crucible vendors

i'd prefer 9:30pm EDT.

If I get raid armor from CE, do I just ignore it or do I level it to a point?
Feel free to max it out, if you:
  • Want to hit 32 as soon as possible (it's currently the only way to get there, until HoW is released)
  • Like the visual appearance of it and want to hang on to it longer-term
