New Assassin's Creed game (Victory, now Syndicate) to be revealed on May 12th

I'm wondering if "Rooks" is a syndicate of some sort - hence the name change. The brass knuckles are certainly a classic image of old-timey gangs.

Also it says "strength through loyalty" on the 5 finger ring.
I expect a "gangs of new york" in london kind of game.

AC is guilty pleasure for me, I finished every game up until Unity and enjoyed it.
But Unity was just garbage, I deleted it after like three hours with it. The performance on the PS4 didn't help either.

I'll will play this though. Love the Victorian\gothic setting, especially after Bloodborne.

Ok, the basics:

- Kill the ridiculous and useless "huge crowds" thing.
- Kill co-op. It didn't work, it wasn't creative, and it simply wasn't fun. Keep iterating on the interesting and creative multiplayer the series was building on before.
- A better map. The scale of Paris was often impressive, but the actual meat and potatoes of the level design itself was rote, safe, and boring.
- The combat was somehow more awful than ever. Revamp it completely (and I do mean COMPLETELY) again, or just go back to the simple stuff it had before.
- Whether through input lag or just plain wonky controls, the up/down new method of parkour did not work well. Scrap it or rework it.

There is a LOT that I need to see before I give this game a chance. Even at $12 AC Unity was a colossal disappointment.

Hmm, I didn't care for Unity too much, but I don't agree with most of those criticisms.

- The huge crowds contributed to the feeling of being an assassin on more that one occasion. Emerging from a crowd to sprint towards a target, or dashing into a large crowd while under fire as the crowd disperses felt very 'Assassin-y'.

- CO-OP was pretty good. It has potential to be better, but in my experience the co-operative elements, especially with two players watching each-other's back, added to the experience rather than detracted from it.

- Paris felt pretty good in scale and detail. As an urban area it was pretty good, IMO. You're never too far away from a building to enter and emerge from, the rooftops could be traversed quite comfortably. But it isn't that interesting, so I somewhat agree with it being "rote, safe, and boring".

- The combat didn't seem worse than the previous games to me. It required focus and awareness. Facing one enemy, versus facing two, three, four, five (etc.) enemies were situations you had to uniquely assess, and minor enemy variety further made combat more complex than counter-attacking. I ran from fights more than I ever had in an Assassin's Creed game, and fleeing felt 'Assassin-y'. Being confronted with five enemies made me feel like "Ah, shit" and beating them took my attention and use of abilities and equipment.

- I think parkour down can be worked on, it has its place. But yes, overall the climbing controls need a lot of attention. There were too many occasions in my playing of Unity where I fumbled around a window.

I think if they polish Unity and increase the variety it could be a very solid game.

They're conditioning you.
LMAO!

And yeah I haven't even completed 30% of unity and doubt I will. Even after the framerate improved and the glitches ceased the game still remained quite boring. Hoping victory will be if anything at least more interesting.

Don't blame you. You beat it and NOTHING important changes.

Not so much surprise as I am dumbfounded that they can pump out AssCreeds game at the rate that they are. I mean Ubisoft might as well be labeled "The asscreed factory"

Ubi don't have a 1000 man team for nothing!lol

Apparently Assassins Creed is worked on 24/7, 365 considering Ubi's team size and global span.

They can crank these bad boys out, even if a broken glitchy mess.

Yeah, only now it seems like two a year is gonna become the new norm for Asscreed

Maybe this year we'll have two big ones but probably from then on, I expect minor games on the small scale like Chronicles to complement the big release.

Cross-gen? It says so on that site.

wtf no way, this has to be a (stupidest) mistake on the website's end, why the hell would they go back to a cross gen AC when they couldn't get ACU right on next gen alone AND they actually thought it more cost effective to make a dedicated PS360 AC last year rather than a ACU port.

people are still yapping over the accents =.=

if Unity had english with french accents everyone would be giggling and making even more jokes about the game all the time (like they are during a ubisoft press conference) because it sounds stupid, silly and lame. If you want an immersive experience you put the game on the audio language of its setting (french) with english subtitles....

Everyone has an accent. The accents are british because they had brits do the voice over. If they had americans do it you would be crying over american accents in a european country or sth like that.

Dude, if you want folks around here to cut AC Unity a break any time soon... good luck. =P

The English accents didn't bother me one bit. But if I had my druthers, I'd go with French accented English. I know it doesn't make sense, but I don't care. I simply find it more... I dunno, fun. Entertaining. In MGS2 the Russian soldiers spoke English with a Russian accent. In MGS3 they spoke American accented English as if they grew up in freaking Glendale, California. Some people said it made more sense that way "because Snake is totally fluent in Russian and he's actually speaking Russian and so to him it would all sound 'normal' and blah blah blah blah." I don't give a shit about that. It made the dialogue less entertaining.

The huge (thousands of npcs) crowds was immersion-breaking, because all they did was slow down framerate, and look ridiculous at how they glitched through obstacles , and moved like bubbles. It added nothing more to the setting, that a couple of hundred could had easily accomplished.

No worries, it's not cross gen

If this to Unity what Brotherhood/Revelations was to AC2 (i.e the same core with a different setting and some sprinkles) then it's pretty much doomed to fail in my opinion.

Brotherhood/Revelations where solid game because they where founded on a solid core. The combat worked, traversal worked, and the mechanics where all around solid.

Unity has a core that's pretty much as broken as AAA cores get (
and by 'broken' I don't mean bugs; people totally exaggerated the bug issues to a crazy level
), with a bunch of sauce on top that makes it look appealing. Traverlas is clunky and the combat is downright broken, more or less.

Hopefully they can fix these issues, because the formula that Unity presented has a ton of potential.

Wasn't that excited for Unity but really excited for this, the theme is worth it, bring on Feudal Japan next!!!

Off-topic: What happened to CrossingEden? I used to be a lurker when he posted and I loved a lot of posts he had on Assassins Creed.

My money is on multiple protagonists. One being a woman.
If true it'll be a launch week buy for me unless it's a broken mess again.

I'm speaking with my wallet. I won't support singleplayer-focused games with new protagonists that don't let you play as a woman. Whether the woman is the main character or you can select your gender.

If it's an established protagonist like Uncharted there isn't anything to be done about it.

Is Unity playable yet? I want to try it but I don't feel like revisiting the old PS3 days of playing an AC game with a ton of screen tearing and sub-25fps. Now with the added possibilities of glitches.

Best wishes.

Er, they do this in Unity.

The characters are constantly using french phrases and words spliced in with English.

And it's unfortunate. Still better than the ridiculous Italian and middle eastern accents of the previous games.

and Arno didn't even touch and push npc's away when you walked through the crowd like in older games.

I think that it means that people don't care, they'll buy it anyway. For better or worse, people get their money out of AssCreed games. I know I do, and I know I'll buy Victory, though probably not on launch.

Shit posting Unity threads wasn't enough for you I guess. Going to continue that for Victory I see.

You need to learn what shit posting is, i had my fair share of problems with the game (like 90% of GAF) and i voiced my opinion on it, that's it.

We'll see how Syndicate turns out. If it's Black Flag polished then good, if it's Unity polished no thanks.

Also it's funny that you remember me when half of the threads complained about those game breaking glitches & bugs.

It's a thread for the announcement of a game reveal announcement, not to mention we've known about Victory for months. There's not going to be 40 pages of posts when there's nothing to really talk about yet.

Too bad the Reveal is going to be another CGI Trailer, with no indication of how the game actually looks like or what new stuff they are bringing to the table.

I really believe that we are past CGI trailer, Give me ingame trailers.

This game should be awesome if it follows the Good AC Formula of every 2nd game being good.

Bad: 1 - Brotherhood - 3 - Unity

Good: 2 - Revelations - Black Flag - Victory

Stuff like Liberation or Rogue doesn't count. Obviously.

GAF isn't a great indicator of audience interest.

Compare the length of the OTs for Bloodborne and Hardline and consider that Hardline ran circles around Bloodborne sales wise.

I'm down for this. Love the attention to detail in these games in relation to setting and history, kind of allows me to overlook the repetition, generally poor mission design (although unity was a definite improvement here) and technical issues.
Hopefully this isn't broken as hell, had the benefit of playing Unity post framerate boost.

Nah, I'm good Ubisoft.

I said I'm never buying an Assassin's Creed game again after Unity and I'm sticking with my guns. I'm still bitter I paid full price for that garbage.
