Well, couldn't that change with the 1.01 version of the game at release?

IGN didn't use LightShafts, but we got it in the config without any comment telling it wouldn't work.

But I'm just dreaming I guess.

Wish someone with the PC code running on a decent rig would just crank it all to ultra, hairworks enabled, light shafts, etc.,pump it up to 4K, and take some screenshots. I wanna see this game in all its glory.

I honestly don't think I have a hope in hell of hitting 60 fps at 1440p on my rig with everything completely maxed out... And it's not exactly a slouch.

CPU: Core i7 4770K @ 4.3ghz
RAM: 16GB
GPU: Titan X Superclocked

I mean, I struggled to get 60fps on GTA5 with everything at max some of the time. But I guess we'll see how it goes. Might buy a second Titan, because I'm an idiot.

Might still not do it I have 2 titanx's and I get dips to 40 fps in gta v with ultra grass. I have a gsync monitor so I dont mind but yea.

Posts like these are funny to me because I already found the colour palette in the second game over saturated and garish looking. I don't recall anyone else complaining about it back then though. Naturally, I'm obviously still not a fan of it in Wild Hunt.

I felt like the colors were fairly well done in TW2, even though I think the colors and atmosphere from TW1 was just leagues better. The issue I had with TW2 was the terrible use of bloom. It was just BAD. Almost no games use bloom in a good way, but this was something else entirely. Nighttime light illuminating from windows or campfires just looked terrible. But that wasn't even the worst part.

The worst is when people turned into Glow Worms and it looked like they had translucent heads with a light source on the inside. Not sure if that's actually improved in TW3, but the overall color palette is much worse for sure.

Isn't a titan x about 1k bucks?!

Aww that's too bad.. These two females need glorious hair too! It seemed that at some point they had it too judging by this screen

The_Witcher_3_Wild_Hunt_Geralt_Triss_and_Yennefer.jpg

This shot does not have hairworks enabled for hair. I can't tell with the fur on yennefers neck.

Yes, the whole tone of the game was different from the original in terms of colour. The first thing I do everytime I play W2 is turn off the bloom - the implementation is absolutely horrific. It's a shame that console players probably didn't have that option.

Old designs of the characters and the scene is different in the final game having Ciri in front and Geralt in the back. Look few pages back.

I'm not aware of any game actually using HBAO. It is all HBAO+, unless somebody could offer examples?

BF games use HBAO, Far Cry 3 uses HBAO and even HDAO.

So HBAO+ is confirmed, and we're pretty sure grass density and foliage draw distance can be improved beyond ultra through some kind of ini files? That pretty much solves all our concerns about foliage quality! HD retextures should be easy enough to produce if they're needed too.

SweetFX can take care of over-saturation for anyone not happy with the more colourful look. So... it's only particle effects and slightly lower mesh quality that are the remaining issues? Things are definitely looking up for us PC gamers compared to the start of this thread =)

They're not developers, they're employees. From HR to financials, to QC, to PR, etc. Look up some credits and you'll see who does what.

Total employees is 9200.

I'll certainly concede that it isn't 1000 developers, but that credits list is 26 minutes long and the developer portion is a significant chunk of that. Also given that so much credit is spread around, it is hard to say the level of contribution of each person on that *massive* list.

Or £1000, thanks to nVidia's $1=£1 pricing bull shit.

Titan X is £868-930 in the UK.

Every GPU I've looked at is cheaper and never had the $1=£1.

The 980 launched at $550, UK is around £450

GTX 970 UK = £240 US =$330

MY GTX 580 launch at $499. UK is £380-420

GTX 480 was the same as the 580

GTX 780ti was $700 and around £550

I could list every GPU. Where do you get this myth from? I've only seen it with the Euro.

I suppose it was a little dishonest. I bought the EVGA superclocked version, which is a little more expensive than its 'vanilla' counterpart. I suppose I tend to buy GPU's around release when high demand pushes prices higher.

Are the trees always in hurricane mode? Shit is WEIRD

lol. i was thinking the same. i've never seen a tree sway like that before in even the heaviest wind conditions here in the UK. i guess the world of the witcher is always on the verge of a tornado all the time...everywhere.

Seems strange for Far Cry 4 to use plain HBAO. Isn't it a gameworks title?

Sorry,I wrote 4 while I was thinking about BF 3, 4, Hardline which use HBAO so I got confused. I have Far Cry 3 and it doesn't have NVidia GameWorks and you can choose between: SSAO, HBAO and HDAO. Far Cry 4 integrated NVidia GameWorks even HairWorks (that doesn't look as good as The Witcher 3 btw) and there is HBAO+ in fact : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sC8XIsqjSc

What stuck out to me more then the trees was Geralts hair. In that IGN video, after he gets a haircut, its just blowing in the wind despite being stood in the barbers. It looks great outside, but you'd have thought it'd have a toggle when he was inside.

If a window is open his hair will wave, or if the house has no roof and so on.

And how much of it is vat? All prices in na are pre tax.

im not sure what angle youre coming at this from, but that does not make it look like old media

The thing with some of the old media...it was sharpened far too much and low quality assets were very visible at full res. Having said that, it had a vibrant look.

Watching high quality ps4 footage though...this game looks stunning. There are no ifs and buts...This isn't Watchdogs or even Unity...this game delivers visually in spades. The Sword of Destiny footage was always a weird anomoly...

the sharpening was overdone, but it still looked much better than it does now. no amt of sharpening or color temperature changes will close the deficit. the lighting, assets, AO, lod, shading were all hit pretty hard

Prices include 20% VAT

Lets take 970 launch for example $330 RRP and £240 UK.

£240 already has 20% VAT included, Without the TAX is £208 and TAX works out to £40. Not only is the myth not found about £1=$1, its actually £8-10 cheaper. Factor in US tax of 5-10% and the 970 is $360 in some states.

Even if the launch is in short supply like the 7970.
US was $550 RRP and newegg was selling at $600-650
UK was £~450 RRP (notice again no £1-$1 myth) and was selling in some places at £500-550

UK is very competitive considering we have 20% tax. It's Euro currency countries who get the shaft.
Xbox One was $500 US, EU was 500 euro, UK was worked out correctly at £429 like almost always

Can't watch now, can someone summarize what he's saying about the downgrade?

He just dances around the issue and says that it's not a downgrade because the old trailer footage wasn't actually gameplay. The game didn't exist yet, it was just rigged shots that were postprocessed to look nice.

also cd projekt employee on the downgrade https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IU9rlkCOk9E.
That's at least a bit more honest. But he's essentially saying comparing trailers or screens or other bits and pieces of an unfinished game to its completed version is unfair. I wonder who released those pieces though?

Anyway, basically: you haven't seen the game until a certain point in development rolls around. Early trailers are not the game, early screens are not the game. They're just highly modified marketing sizzle.

Shocking.

Basically breaking down the word downgrade. Talks about the sharpening filter, lighting changes, shader changes and PBR.. 2013 gameplay demo vs 2014 gameplay. Says there was optimization but repeats "There was no downgrade!!!"

He's basically saying that it's unfair to compare trailers and gameplay since 1. the game isn't in a completely playable state yet ("there was no grade to downgrade from" is what he specifically says) and 2. the circumstances in trailers are "handcrafted" meaning that you have perfect lighting, perfect camera angles, perfect shots, super high resoution, post processing. If you want to see how the game actually looks you should look at gameplay demos which he said they released enough of.

VGX trailer first thing you see after rating is "In Game Footage". Case closed. If you don't have game then write "In Engine Footage".

I wrote (as best as I could) what he exactly said.

No we didn't downgrade, it's... no we didn't downgrade. Because it's impossible to downgrade a game that didn't exist before or wasn't playable before.

Actually there was a guy that commented like that, you can't downgrade something that... there was no grade to downgrade. He was comparing final product to something that wasn't playable.

There's two things that people have to separate. Downgrade is... Optimization is necessary to make the game run. Downgrade is if you deliberatery make the game worse, for whatever reason. That's totally not what happened.

Also there's another thing that people have to understand is that it's very unfair to compare trailers and gameplay demos. Trailer is.. trailer is a beautiful shot. Trailer is prepared, you take one location, you put the perfect lights, and the perfect camera angle, and the perfect scene, and it looks absolutely beautiful. It's captured in super high definition and then you postprocess it. It's a trailer.

But a gameplay demo, that's when you see the real game. That's when you see what the real game looks like.

In 2013 we had a gameplay demo, shortly after that demo we completely... If you look graphics in that demo we used an old shader system, it wasn't this physically based shader system. It was a little bit flatter. Some things were sharper, too sharp even. There was this sharpening filter that was too hard on the eyes. So we changed the whole shader system and put in this PBR system. And it just kept getting nicer and nicer.
