Witcher 3 PC Performance Thread

The tests Andy ran were 40+ fps. The game probably runs 60 in most areas, but may dip to 40 odd in heavy areas. Regardless, the game will be out soon and we can get some user results with different setups.

damn ok well hopefully the day one patch and game ready drivers can increase the minimum frames.

Does anyone know the exact time this will unlock? I'm confused between the 19th or 18th

i7 4770 4ghz and GTX 980 OC ready to go here, even after downgradegate, where are our Witcher 3 optimized driver though?

GTX 780
Intel i5-4760k @ 3.4GHz
16GB ram
SSD

So technically I don't have recommended specs because I have an i5 instead of an i7. Hopefully it doesn't matter.

I was hoping to run it on high at a locked 60. But I don't think this is going to happen.

I'll be curious to see if I prefer to run the game on Uber, or whether I prefer to run triple screen on my 970. Surprisingly often the improvements of 'Uber' aren't worth it over the bigger view on the world and everything being near life-sized.

Same thoughts here. I hope I can run it at at least 1080p/60fps (safe to say the Gamworks bells and whistles are no-go?).
Apparently so. Which is a shame :(

I guess I'll cap it at 30fps and maybe increase res to 1440p and enable Gameworks. If my 780 Ti can't do that then I'll be disappointed.

Gonna be playing this on my laptop (with a 680M), and I have a feeling I'm gonna have to drop the resolution below 1080p for the first time...

I have the same card. Hoping for 1080p@60fps at high or at least medium settings. Either way, I would wait for the new cards before spending money on the 290x.

I've actually got another 280x I could grab off a friend for cheap, just debating if I want to run crossfire.

I have a 6GB 780 with an i7 4790k - hoping to be able to max it at 1080p with Gameworks, just not sure if the graphics card will cope or whether that will need a 780Ti (it should be fine non-Gameworks according to that Nvidia table in the OP, but with it... hmm).

i7-4790K @ stock 4 GHz speed + 970 GTX MSI gaming edition + 1080p gsync monitor

hopefully i can run the game @ max settings and gameworks on without suffering major drops

Well. It turns out I have one of the better FX6300 chips. Managed to OC it to 4.2GHz stable. Topped out at 70 degrees C but after the fan got up to speed it hovered around 65 (+-1) degrees, which is safe :). Oddly enough Prime95 doesn't make the fan go all the way up to 6k RPM so it ran a bit hot there, but within games everything is stable. It'll be better once I get the new heatsink installed, this is on the stock cooler :lol. I'm actually amazed. Then again 4.2 is just 100mhz over the TurboClock so it can handle that easily.

Witcher 2 gained a whooping 5 FPS in Flotsam (From 45 min to 50 min), granted it did help smooth out camera movement and such. So most likely it killed any microstutters or frame delays

BRING IT, WITCHER 3!

Hello good sir, we have similar interests. How are you OCing your FX, which motherboard? Any aftermarket cooler you'd recommend? We have the exact same rig save the fact that I have a 280X.

Can't wait for clothes physics. Imagine when we get chainmail that's made out of actual links *drool*
Hey no problem glad to see a fellow AMDer.

I have a Coolmaster Hyper Evo 212 with my FX6300 , although i need another fan or i just might get the other Cool master heat sink. Never the less i got means clocked at 4.0ghz stable (will be bumping it up if need be) after doing prime95 at load. I get no more then 50c with Core socket temps (Motherboard temps) and for the Core Cpu temps it never goes above 40 to 46c. Also just a heads up; Cpu Socket temps (limit is 70c) and Cpu temps (limit is 65c) are supposed to be different. But the Cpu temps is the only thing that really matters, meaning that 70c to 65c temperature you gave might be for the Motherboard. Because that's far to high, though that stock cooler would be the problem ;p.

Right now my Motherboard is a M5a97 r2.0.

(will upgrade soon looking for better thermal)

Will be using this to pick my next Motherboard: https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/motherboard/?compatible_with=amd-cpu-fd6300wmhkbox

What is your vcore in BIOS for that 4.2ghz?

Switched everything back just in case. Forgot what the Vcore was but yeah. I checked the temps in HWMonitor, I'm certain I looked at the right temps in there lol. I read that you can actually push it to 75 degrees though. But yeah mobo temp was actually higher around 80ish. At stock settings I get 55ish during load for the CPU

This was mainly a test to see if my Gigabyte would throttle like crazy as I read my revision was prone to do, but I guess the latest BIOS fixed a lot of the issues, helps that it mainly throttles the 8350 too.

Seemed stable enough for a 30 minute gaming session but I'll wait until I get proper cooling in there

You won't , even a 780 ti can't max it at 1080p with hairworks...

Damn I hate my 780 ti ... such a pisspoor quality/price ratio ...

Waiting for that 980ti ... or the 10xx series !

It can max it as good as a 980 would at 1080p especially if you OC.

With a disclaimer that I'm all-but-entirely unfamiliar with what impacts performance on this (so feel free to correct any misunderstandings on my part), can anyone share thoughts or shed any light on the viability of playing this over Steam's In-House-Streaming? Should I expect notable performance loss for frame rate / smoothness / clarity, etc. Any known tweaks for maximising IHS quality?

Specs are 3GB7970, 3570K@4.4, 16GB RAM. Network is wired.

Can anyone with a very low spec'd system comment on how the game runs?

Im talking about a low end i5 and a 560 or lower

GMG better get their asses in gear then. They still haven't sent out keys yet. I've had them send keys as late as twelve hours before a game unlocks, but it's never been a problem. Those games usually didn't have days and days of preloading available though either.

As far as your specs go, I wouldn't worry that much. I'm using a GTX 780 as well, and I don't expect the game to chug or drop so low in most places that it's distracting. Different processor, but apparently the game isn't really that dependent on it. I don't really see it running any worse than DA:I did maxed out. I ended up with the occasional dip to 49 in heavily populated/dragon fights with tons of effects, but it was rather rare.

Probably won't be using HairWorks though.

My bad didn't see ;p

Never the less i think i might just get a new PSU over a new motherboard it seems. I can live with the m5a97 for a bit longer, since there aren't that many choices mb wise and i don't want to go into the 150+ range. Even though my current psu has served me well even though the brand is not the greatest, its time to step it up.

Do we know if PhysX is done on the GPU or CPU in this? Need to decide if I want to use my old GTX 260 as a PhysX card, but I would need a new power supply.

Someone said it was done on the CPU, not the GPU. Would be good to know for sure.

Not sure if it's on either or but it's baked into the game so can't be offloaded to a PhysX card IIRC.
