Take-Two FY 2015: GTA V 52 million, Evolve 2.5 M, NBA 7M, WWE 3M, lost $243 million

..
Maybe grossing it may have a shot but it will never beat Tetris its on a different level lol when it comes to single game sales I guess

Excluding F2P titles, I think its behind Minecraft and Wii Sports and maybe Super Mario Bros. if you combine the remakes & Virtual Console over the years. It's probably up there in highest grossing if you include the microtransactions

Edit: And Tetris perhaps but Tetris going through so many pub's hands muddies it

Are Tetris sales across all platforms it had been released on over the years aka everything?? Gta5 possibly highest selling console/PC release?? I will admit to triple dipping for gta5 only game I have ever done that for.

These are incredible numbers for GTAV.

Combined with stagnant software sales gen over gen, this is further evidence that the winners are winning in increasingly big at the expense of everyone else.

You're going to have to try a little bit harder if you want to catch Minecraft Take-Two.

I guess your ho-hum results are "okay" though.

52 million? That's huge, which CoD game sold the most?

Man. How can a game that sells 52 million copies have such a small impact on the cultural gaming sphere? Do I live in a bubble?
Why don't I know anybody who cares about GTA V? Why are there no memes? No mainstream awareness of plot or characters? No iconic locations? It's just a brand to me. I don't know anybody attached to it. Or passionate about it.

Apparently I literally live underground.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
What makes the number more impressive is that it is still selling quite well and wont leave the charts anytime soon - its already a evergreen on PS4/One/PC and will continue to sell for the rest of the Gen.

That's almost half of what GTAV did , huh.

Anticipation is a big thing that GTA has going for it that CoD doesn't. There was a five year gap between GTA4 and GTA5, without anything being released that could really take its place. CoD has a new game every year, so there's no real build up for the next game.

And somehow they still posted loss.

That's the most bizarre thing to me, Take Two have arguably the highest grossing game ever (minecraft is a lot cheaper, wii sports & tetris were pack-ins) and still manage to lose money?

I can't think of what sort of money sucking vortex they must have, there must be layers upon layers of management siphoning away cash at all levels.

NBA 2k15 just under 7m
WWE 2k15 sold in nearly 3m, 40% up from 2K14 in the same time.
Borderlands sales exceeded expectations, 20% digital. 25m units franchise sales of which 8m sold in FY2015.

Nirolak, you wanna copy bump haha!

I managed to fit two of those in the title, but I think I'll split off the overperforming.

It's crossed SMB by a dozen million, don't think the VC sales would make up the deficiency.
In pure terms, yes
SMB on NES sold 40.28 million
The GBA version sold 2.26 million
42.52 million

but including All Stars and Deluxe
Super Mario All-Star (SNES) - 10.55 million
Super Mario All-Stars Wii - 2.24 million
SMB Deluxe - 5.07 million
17.86 million +42.52 = 60.38 million

you start to see that it's kind of murky. Like how do you decide to count those collections

What is really causing take two to lose so much money?

That's my question as well...a lot of their games seem to sell very well. GTA is a monster, NBA does well every year, they have the Civ series which sells well, Borderlands sold huge

How do they lose so much money?

This number is just unbelievable, I can't really fathom it, how is this possible and how did they manage to still lose after such a hit? So many sales should cover them for like 6 years of flops.

Some of it is phasing due to how multiplayer makes them doll out income over a long time period versus the costs they all incur now.

However most of it is mismanagement given they're only making $50 million even by their own accounting which is comically bad for how much they've been shipping.

GTA Online will have new free content.

75% digital sales on PC (If I heard correctly, don't quote me, need to double check)

Take Two lost $243 million despite a massive increase in revenue due to GTA V sales?

Why do I suspect that there is some accounting magic going on here to protect them from paying a rather large tax bill?

Or in my cynicism am I genuinely missing something which explains this?
